High-powered laptop in a compact case
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first MSI laptop, and I was looking for something thin and light that would also be powerful. It was a real bonus that the design of this one is a departure from what I've seen from MSI in the past, with subdued gold accents on a sleek black exterior. Very nice. It does very nicely with AAA games like FarCry 5, No Man's Sky, and GTA, all with consistently >60FPS and frequently 144FPS. The display is quite nice. My only complaint is that it feels somewhat flimsy at times, but that's the tradeoff with a thin and light computer. Also can get moderately hot, though also to be expected.

High-end Lightweight Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Full Disclosure: I was incentivised to write this review thanks to the MSI offer of a Steelseries Headset upon submission of a review. There was no requirement for a minimum score. I was looking for a gaming laptop a bit different from the monsters that used to define this sort of thing - something lightweight, that wouldn't look out of place in an office whilst still being able to pump out games for years to come. My previous laptop recently died after 7 years of hard labour, and I wanted to treat myself to something that would last. I considered several of the new Intel 8th generation lightweight gaming laptops before choosing this one. This model from BestBuy came with 16 GB 2400 MHz dual channel RAM, a 512 GB Toshiba M.2 SSD (not as fast as the NVMe in other models, but the most storage at this price point and a second unused SSD slot), the Killer N1550 wireless card (which has been fine so far) and the Max-Q GTX 1070 GPU. I had this shipped from BestBuy (via UPS), and it arrived triple-boxed. The innermost, MSI-branded box contained the laptop (in two protective sleeves). This box was held in an MSI-brown cardboard box with thick foam supports, alongside a second box containing the power brick. No other peripherals come with this item. Finally this was packaged into a plain shipping box alongside a strip of large air-filled bags (instead of polystyrene), with nothing on the outside identifying its contents. Overall, this was excellent packaging, the laptop suffered no damage during transit. The build quality seems reasonable - the screen and body will flex if you are actively trying to make them do so, however I haven't noticed anything during normal use. This is most likely due to MSI designing around weight - it's very light for a 15.6'' screen, at 4.1 lbs / 1.9 kg. It does collect fingerprints, but they disappear after a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth. Visually, I adore the black and gold look, with only the individually-lit RGB keyboard to suggest a gaming pedigree (this was easily set to a uniform white through the SteelSeries Engine software - Fn-1-0 acts as a shortcut to jump between different profiles). The keyboard is lovely to type on with a good medium weight to each key - I very quickly found myself making no more mistakes than I would on any other I'm used to using. The 1080p screen is reasonably bright with a high 144 Hz refresh rate and a good colour range (however if this is important for your own work I would advise checking the many technical reviews which calibrate the colours according to the 3 standards). The trackpad (running Synaptic drivers) was annoying at first however, it seemed to enter a click every 7 seconds or so losing focus on any drop down menus. However this disappeared after a restart and I haven't noticed any problems since. You have 2-finger scrolling up/down, and 3- and 4- finger gestures for changing between apps or controlling the volume. I did have to find a Chrome extension however to retain the two-finger swipe forward and backwards I had previously. Upon booting up for the first time, there is the usual Windows 10 Home introduction sequence involving Cortana, which took about 10-15 minutes to get through. I uninstalled maybe 8-10 items of bloat, nothing too hard to remove. Coming from Windows 7, the inability to have control over updates was annoying, and the laptop started to update from 1709 to 1803 (currently not deemed great) but oh well. There were 5 or so other security updates, nothing major, so it starts off close to being up to date. I haven't yet had the time to push the performance, but the Max-Q 1070 has been performing well on benchmarks and I have no real concerns here. The 8th generation of intel CPUs seem to perform around 30% better than the previous generation, and the USB-3 thunderbolt port offers the potential to run an external GPU if that becomes relevant in years to come. The main concern is the thermals - at high loads users have found this model to run hot! CPU undervolting offers one solution to this, as might re-pasting (this will, however, void your warranty with BestBuy according to the employee I asked so beware). Under normal conditions (for example, writing this review while surfing) the CPU is running at 44 °C, and the fans are silent. The speakers sound fine, nothing amazing but it's a laptop. They sit underneath, but can be turned up pretty loud. The webcam is a little grainy, but will certainly suffice, and there are plenty of ports if you wanted to run a dedicated camera. One nice feature is the ability to physically turn the camera off however, for the security conscious (when enabled through the keyboard-shortcut the Windows Camera app cannot find the camera). The battery seems reasonable. I wouldn't want to attempt a full days work with no charger to hand, but I would have no worries about an afternoon away from mains. When plugged it during use it sat at around 90% (claiming to be plugged in but not charging) which is likely to improve the battery life by reducing the number of charge cycles the laptop goes through by not going to 100%, dropping a little bit, topping up and repeating. 6-and change hours use seems to be about what I get. Overall I'm happy, and looking forward to seeing what this laptop can really do with some games!

Great choice for a multi-media laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally purchased this laptop because I traveled for a few months, and I needed something light-weight and powerful that I could game and work on while away. This laptop was the perfect choice. From the keyboard to the graphics card, I could not have picked a better laptop. My favorite things include the display, keyboard, weight *for this kind of laptop*, and looks (this thing is sexy in person trust me. However there are a few downsides: I found it very difficult to reach the expected battery life that is displayed. I still got a good amount of battery, but I did expect more (at least it charges quickly). Another downside is the trackpad. For normal use it does the job quite well, but for gaming, I found that it often does not work at all while using the keyboard (keep in mind that's only when gaming), but I doubt anyone will use a trackpad when gaming. After a few months of use, I have found that this laptop is a great choice for a multi-media/ work laptop! Definitely would recommend!

Solid laptop, good price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only frustration: if you decide to upgrade your storage and add an NVMe drive be warned. The included m.2 ssd can only go in slot 1 and you can only boot from slot 1. Thus if you get an NVMe Drive for slot 2 don’t expect to be able to load windows onto it and boot from the second drive. No amount of messing around in the bios could fix it for me. Saying that the included ssd is still fast with sustained read/write in the 500 mb/s range. The 1tb storage drive I got is closer to 1900 mb/s... still an amazing laptop. Quiet and long lasting when you need it and blazing fast when you want it.

Best laptop of 2018
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been a console gamer but recently my interest in pc gaming sparked when better thin gaming laptops started to come out. I looked everywhere online trying to figure the best laptops and came to the MSI GS65 OR The Razer Pro. I chose the MSI simply because I love the look and it had every piece of hardware I was looking for. Not to mention a few hundred dollars cheaper. I have been playing games on it for about a week now and am in love. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to get into PC gaming. Laptops aren’t everyone’s niche but this one sure fit mine!

Great Gaming/Work Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had the Stealth for a few days now, and have absolutely fallen in love with it. It churns through productivity work excellently, and runs every game I throw at it at 60+ fps on high to very high settings. It's incredibly light for the size, looks sleek, and isn't ugly like most gaming oriented laptops. At the office, everyone has commented on how cool it is (especially when I have the lights on the keyboard going). I would absolutely recommend the Stealth to anyone looking for a fresh take on the gaming laptop, but who also needs to use it for work-related purposes.

high Quality Laptop with top notch performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is phenomenal!! I was able to start immediately on downloading my games thanks to no bloatware. The keys on the key board are very quiet. After playing multiple games I can see why it was called the stealth. The build is amazing with the lightweight aluminum and gold finishes. Games ran absolutely smooth with no glare whatsoever on the screen. I absolutely love the MSI dragon center which allows for simple tweaks to help boost performance. Over all I very much enjoy this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a high performance game on the go laptop.

Great for Both Gaming and College
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a lot of research on trying to find the perfect fit for both gaming and college, I finally decided to go with the MSI GS65. The light weight of this laptop will make it easy to carry around campus while also containing the specs for high end gaming. I was surprised that I could get these specs and portability for this price. The build quality of this laptop is decent. The only thing I notice is there will be a slight flex on the keyboard if you push down really hard, however, this doesn't bother me in normal typing. Overall, This laptop is the best laptop at this price.

Perfect for the career and gaming
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After graduating college I still loved gaming in my spare time. My problem is, as a consultant, it was kind of hard busting out a heavy giant laptop with a glowing alien logo when I'm pitching to serious clients. The MSI Stealth Thin lets me play my games with Ultra settings, then manage some serious clientele in a professional, lightweight, and portable manner. So far this one is great. This is my 3rd MSI computer over the years... my old one did have build quality issues, so you may run into that here and there. But if you treat it like a king, it will treat you like a god.

One Super Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wanted something thin, light and powerful. That left me with either a Surface Book 2 (with discrete GPU) or the MacBook Pro 15". When I saw this laptop announced a few months back, I almost couldn't believe my eyes with what it supposedly was hiding in its (very good looking) thin frame. I've owned other very large, heavy and hot gaming laptops in the past, and I wanted something I could throw in my backpack and take to work, that didn't have huge logos lights or other distractions. I picked it up almost the day it was released and unfortunately I got a dud out of the box. Had a huge dent over the rear right hinge, and severe back-light bleed. While it seemed to work fine, for $2k, I felt that I should at least have something pristine and undamaged, and allow me to do that myself over the next few years. Luckily my exchange went smoothly after finding one of the last available units in stock locally. This one is perfect.. no dents or back-light bleed. VERY satisfied so far!

It's time for you to take it home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My experience on GS65 is a little bit complicated. I ordered the first batch of this laptop on BestBuy and pick up by myself on 5/9 in West Hollywood. The laptop seems to be pretty delicate. As an ultra-thin gaming laptop, I don't wanna be too harsh on its surface temperature. However, maybe I'm quite unlucky, I met almost all the defects that I've seen on the Internet: severe screen bleeding on the left edge, terrible touch pad with unpressable buttons, suddenly high-spin fans in normal conditions and frequent fake system halts. You can say that these are not big problems, but they left me very bad impression. Good news is that when I choose to change a new one on 5/31, things become different. Those small defects have totally gone. The differences that I have noticed include a new SATA SSD (Toshiba SG6 instead of Samsung PM871A) and two black fans for the graphics card instead of one red and one black on the old batch. I have no idea why MSI made these changes. What I know is that this batch of laptop might have much better quality. It's good time for those who have interests in GS65 to take it home! P.S.: I know that many people also take an eye on the new Razer Blade 15. Before you make your decision, think about Razer's previous quality control and whether you can accept at least $400 gap. GS65 is not perfect, but it definitely worth its price.

Great Gaming Laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been searching for a good VR ready gaming laptop for quite some time and found this MSI GS 65 Stealth thin 15" fits the bill! I like the steelseries keyboard (with neat led lighting), the crisp high refresh rate 144hz display and the specs are more than good enough to fit my current gaming needs! (speedy Intel i7 8th gen multi core CPU processor, 16GB ram, 512GB SSD, Nvidia 1070 Max-Q discrete graphics GPU) The one minor thing I didn't like about the laptop was the over-sensitive touchpad, but since I use a USB gaming mouse, it's not a deal breaker.

Top Performing/Most Beautiful Thin Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saw many reviews on this laptop on Youtube. All have amazing things to say about this laptop, and it has failed to disappoint me. Great specs for a reasonable price. Handles gaming and productivity like a champ. Great battery life for light use; almost comparable to Macbook Pro 15 w/Retina. Only con is dropped framerates during gamplay when battery is under 30-35%. So make sure you have your charger when gaming for long periods of time with this laptop or you might experience some throttling. Other than that, great laptop and is completely worth the money.

Ecellent Laptop!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going to say this right off the bat. The very first thing you want to do is update the drivers for the Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller from their website (and the Bluetooth drivers while you're there) or you may experience extremely slow upload speeds while using an ethernet connection. Other than that, this laptop is fast and doesn't have a lot of bloatware to uninstall. As far as the heat issue goes while gaming, it's always best to invest in a cooling pad. All in all a definite 5 star laptop for gaming or anything else you want to do.

Great Build Quality and Design
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was blown away by the build quality of this laptop. Even though it weighs just slightly over 4 lbs, it's built solidly. The laptop is also well designed; it would not be out of place in either a conference room or a LAN party, which can't be said of most gaming laptops. Finally, the power adapter is appropriately sized to complement the thin profile of the laptop. No need to worry about a giant brick making the thinness redundant.

Great Mobile Power Rig For The Price!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I originally came in to Best Buy because I wanted to buy the Razer Blade. Turns out, that this model offered even better specs for $200 less (GTX 1070 graphics vs the GTX 1060). I believe if one were to find the Razer Blade with the GTX 1070 card, it's about $500 more, but the Best Buys in my area didn't carry that one anyways. Regardless, if you are looking for bang for your buck, why spend the unnecessary extra money and get this which can do what you need from work, to school to gaming (of course)! Now, I will say the only minor downfall is the laptop isn't quite as sturdy as others as it is slightly flimsier. But, for me, I take care of my things so it was well worth it's price point. Also, it does get quite hot but then what gaming laptop doesn't? Bottom line is: get this if you are looking to get some of the latest in gaming laptop technology at a great price point!

Great First PC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.being a Computer Science major and not knowing whether to use macOS or to use Windows 10 was hard. however, making the purchase of the MSI GS65 Stealth was definitely the right one. this computer is perfect for compiling lengthy code, and that's just the boring school stuff. When it comes to gaming, this computer is insane. not only does it have a great processe for gaming with the Nvidia GTX but its RGB keyboard is a great addition and makes the computer whole. This product is safe purchase and won't disappoint.

Great mobile gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned several gaming laptops in the past, and this one is by far the lightest most mobile version I've had. Works great if you are tired of carrying around a heavy laptop and are looking to swap to a lighter PC with all the same power as the competition.
