Great, except for the flexing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: - Looks really nice. Not super gamer like the alienware laptops. - Games run super smooth. I get 120+ fps playing Destiny 2 on high settings. - Normal work tasks run very well. - Battery life is decent. - Keyboard feels very nice. - Laptop is very light and small, and the small bezels around the screen make it look great. Cons: - Fans are very loud during heavy gaming. - Build quality is not that great. The screen flexes very easily. I am worried to take this laptop in my backpack without a solid sleeve protecting it. - I don't like the font on the keyboard. I really like this laptop, except for the screen and body flex. I travel a lot for work, and the laptop feels very dainty and it makes me nervous. It is enough to subtract two stars from an otherwise great laptop.

Amazing Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is hands down the best laptop on the market. The GTX 1070 GPU plays Fortnite on Maxed out settings 60FPS. 144Hz Display looks extremely good. I use the laptop connected to a 4K monitor and it multitasks extremely well. It really is as light as you are hoping it will be. This is criminally powerful for how thin and light the laptop is. Also extra points for the thin bezel around the display. The only negatives I have for it are: Aluminum Chassis Flexes Fans can get loud (also a good thing though since it has better cooling.) Trackpad is TRASH, way too sensitive...

Thin and light, but also powerful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I purchased this computer, I was pleasantly surprised for how thin and light it was. I mostly play Overwatch and it was able to handle it not problem.

Pretty with Purpose
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is not your average gaming computer. MSI stepped up and overthrew their previous industrial design. I would be able to take this to class, and have all of the mac users be jealous of my beautiful laptop. It looks like something Beyoncé would use. So far, I have played two games on it: Fortnight and For Honor. I was able to play both games on epic settings at 120 FPS. Although at this high frame rate it gets a little too hot for my comfort. I have instead been playing at 60 FPS with the CPU consistently at 70 degree celcius. Very satisfied. Would recommend.

Excellent performance. Lacking storage & SD slot
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a truly awesome laptop. It has all the right specs for running the latest video games & video editing software. I'm very happy with how smooth it operates however it is lacking storage space. Half of the SSD is already in use by Windows 10, leaving an additional 279 GB of storage on the SSD which isn't much to work with. They did add an additional hard drive but it only offers 175 GB storage. Be prepared to purchase an external drive for added storage space. The design is sleek and sexy. It doesn't weigh much at all (less than 5lbs I believe). However, due to the smaller footprint you lose things like an internal SD card reader, the number pad on the keyboard and even a CD/DVD/Blue Ray reader. All of these things can be purchased separately but that just means you'll have to bring all the externals with you which is a bit of a hassle. Other than that, I love it and plan on keeping it. Also, the 144hz monitor is extremely smooth and bright!

Great Laptop with few Compromises.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The MSI GS65 is hands down the most powerful laptop I have ever owned, with 6 cores and 12 threads, this thing can chew through just about anything you throw at it. The Screen: With Color accuracy just below 75% of the RGB Color gambit, the screen looks colorful and pleasant to look at. Top that with a 144hz display panel and you have almost the perfect screen. Almost. The display, while having adjustable brightness, doesn't get that bright on it's highest setting. The Keyboard: I'm going to be honest, I love the keyboard on this thing, RGB or not. The keys are tactile and pleasant to type on, the wide keys make fat fingering keys a basic non-problem. and the keyboard layout is easy to adjust to. Combine that with the Individually lit RGB Keys and you have the best keyboard I have ever used on a laptop. The Mousepad: Unexceptional, it's average sized and feel about like a mouspad should. It's accurate and does its job. Chassis: The chassis is build quite well. With almost no keyboard flex and very minimal screen flex, I give this one a thumbs up. The I/O: The ports on the GS65 are pretty good for a laptop, 3 USB-A, Thunderbolt 3 over USB, Ethernet, Mini-display port and HDMI, and a separate headphone and microphone jack. I can't personally think of a reason you would run out of ports on this machine. The Sound: It gets pretty loud and the quality is not bad for a laptop at all, while I personally wouldn't, you could game on this without a pair of headphones with little problem. The Internals: Quick and snappy. i7 processor and GTX 1070 can chew through rendering, gaming, photo/video editing, and anything else I could through at it. My Experience: I have under-volted the processor to reduce heat (-.150) as the power in this machine can get quite warm. By reducing the panel to half brightness and refresh-rate to 60hz, I was able to comfortably squeeze out about 8 hours of productivity usage. (Microsoft office mostly) The laptop looks very nice and professional (my kind of laptop) and will not get snarky looks if you show up to a meeting with this. My Gripes: Windows Home, for this price point, I would like to see windows 10 pro come out of the box on this. I have never seen a laptop attract fingerprints like this one, every touch leaves an oily looking mark, wash your hands before every use. Overall, great laptop, would recommend to anyone who has the money to drop on this kind of laptop.

Impressive Laptop for Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've only had the laptop for a couple days but I'm discovering the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin to be one of the best laptops on the market. My original impression was that it was a gaming laptop but I find it fantastic for productivity-related tasks as I use it strictly as a work laptop. Build & Design: The chassis is a very thin aluminum and its sleek design allows it to be incredibly lightweight for a 15.6", which is something I was looking for in a laptop since I will be carrying it around often. Because of its lightweight design however, the laptop sometimes have a flex/flimsy-ness to it; for instance, the display flexes slightly when you open it. Not really a big deal, unless you plan on pressing the chassis often. The design is very nice and the gold accents give off a nice vibe. The keyboard has a mechanical nice feedback but the trackpad could definitely be improved upon. Performance & Battery Life: The i7 6-core processor is a B E A S T --- I'm basically breezing through applications like Photoshop, SketchUp, CorelDraw. The display is beautiful and vibrant and I really appreciate the 144Hz display---it's super smooth. Battery life is very important to me and for such a powerful laptop, the battery during normal operation is above average. Between running my work software and web brousing, I average between 6-10 hours. However when I do use it for gaming, my run-time is about 1-4 hours. You'll definitely need your charger. Warning: the bottom of the laptop gets pretty hot. Audio & Etc: The speakers are almost always awful but sufficient for simple YouTube and movie watching. If you're looking for nice audio, I would suggest getting a pair of nice headphones because you will not like the speakers. I've said this before but the trackpad could use some work as it's a little smaller than my previous laptopns (Macbook Pro, Dell Inspiron, and a low-end Asus). But it's not a deal breaker, just something I've noticed. I recommend using a mouse anyway, especialy if you plan on doing a lot of mouse intense work. Bottom line: This laptop isn't perfect but I highly recommend it to anyone that wants a thin and sleek setup with enough processing power to do photo/video editing and design rendering/3D content creation. Its fit, finish, and function is pretty great and I am truly impressed at its great performance in such a small and light-weight package.

Awesome Laptop for Gaming and Work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is great for running games on and is lightweight enough for me to use at work (IT). I installed a 970 Evo NVME SSD as a 2nd SSD in the laptop. It is a bit of a pain to open this laptop up, so I recommend you know what you are doing before you attempt it, as the motherboard is upside down and everything will need to be disassembled to get to the SSD, RAM etc. Also if you bought this exact model, keep this in mind. You MUST install an NVME in that 2nd slot or else the BIOS will not see it. A regular m2. SATA drive will not show up.

Great all around laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is perfect for me, although it is a bit expensive, (Still cheaper at best buy than any other store or website) it does everything I need it to. Im going away to school soon, and not only does it handle games better than my desktop, but it is smaller and more compact than any other gaming laptop, and has the very appealing looks of other ultrabooks and thin and lights. The only thing that I find a little annoying is how easy it is to get fingerprints on the finish, MSI should look into a way of coating the alluminium to make this harder.

Excellent Choice
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an outstanding machine, and I can safely say you won’t regret your purchase. Pros: Power, and lots of it. The 1070 is a max q model, so keep in mind it’s not quite as strong as a full 1070, but that doesn’t make this computer a worse choice by any stretch. Running left for dead 2 at max settings is an easy and consistent 144 FPS, and something more modern like Fortnite will sit around 90-100 FPS at max settings, assuming you keep your fans running. The screen: a 144hz panel is a sight to behold. To those deciding between a 60hz and a 144, I would suggest putting the extra money into the higher refresh rate screen. If you’re still not sure, it never hurts to visit a store and play with the display model. That’s how I made my final decision. Battery life: Normal usage (not games) with the brightness turned down and the RGB keyboard disabled will last a long time, attributed to the laptop switching from the 1070 to the integrated graphics when not under stress. Games will kill your battery fairly quickly, as per usual gaming laptops, but if you install NVIDIA’s app in dragon center you can automatically lower settings when you’re not plugged into a charger. This will decrease your frame rates and picture quality but will keep the computer running longer. Cons: The build quality: I very much love how the machine looks with the subtle gold trim and logo, but the chassis is not without its issues. It’s a total fingerprint magnet. If you touch the metal lid at all, it’s gonna leave a mark. Additionally, I’ve found there to be a bit of creaking on the right side of the palm rest near the trackpad. If you push the metal in and release, it will pop in one very specific spot, almost like gum stuck to the bottom of a shoe sticking to a sidewalk. Gross, but t paints a picture. Overall the flex around the vents and palm area isn’t terrible, but I’m not especially picky and it could potentially bother people who’ve previously owned Razor’s blade lineup. Same goes for the screen. Final thoughts: If you’re like me and switching from a console to a computer, I would bet you will instantly love this thing. I don’t regret my purchase in the slightest, and I have quite a bit of faith in how this computer will hold up. I hope my review helped. -Garrett

Excellent lightweight gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solid construction, lightweight and stable design. The viewing angle and refresh rate on the screen are very impressive. Would have liked a 4k option, but the 1080p display looks amazing. The fan noise is pretty well controlled for a laptop with so much power. No worse than my old macbook. This is one of the best configurations for this laptop that I've found online. The GTX1070 chipset is Max-Q designed for longer battery life, the 512GB SSD provides plenty of space for games, and the price point is just right. Enjoying this laptop so far!

Great Laptop For VR and Most AAA Titles
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I recently purchased this laptop while I was on vacation in Florida as I needed something to use while I was away from my main computer. So I ended up getting this as its got a 1070,144hz monitor and 16gb of DDR4 so I knew it would hold up in comparsion to my main PC at home and it did well using the HTC Vive as well with it at 60+ FPS and no stutters/not getting overheated like most laptops and surprisingly it had great sound through the on board. I would say if you want a PC for on the go with the power of a desktop, get this one!

Great specs, great build, some small issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like the specs of this laptop, 6 core cpu with a gtx 1070 is a lot of laptop. The build quality is also very nice. However, I am having an issue right now with the windows explorer opening very slowly. I may have to do a clean install of windows, which is annoying.

Best Work/Gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in college right now, so I wanted a laptop in which I can take to classes everyday, but that at the same time I could use it for gaming at night. For me the MSI GS65 was the perfect combination, the new design being thin and light weight with such a powerful processor and graphic card made my dream possible. In the class I put the fans at low mode, so it is not loud and works perfectly but at night I'm able to use the performance 100% and I couldn't be any happier with it. I highly recommend this computer, it is worth every penny.

A software engineer perspective
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off - I am not a gamer. I am a software engineer (ok, ok, code monkey). I write both client and server side java, as well as python, on a regular basis. The datasets I work with can be quite beefy, and sometimes the analysis code and server side code I write needs beefy hardware to be performant. I have been developing on a mac for the past 8 years, and various forms of Linux since 2004 (when I started grad school, which is when I left Windows). I've admittingly been a Mac and Linux snob for quite some time. However, I have to say that Windows 10, plus this hardware (I can't speak for other systems), has been at the very least a horizontal move, and many cases, a positive move. For the price and upgradability, you can't beat it for my application (upside-down motherboard aside, at least the option is there!). It was the cost and upgradeability (and reparability) that made me look at this laptop when I compared it to the latest MacBook Pros, and I have not regretted the decision to switch. There are a few warts, but they are minor. The back of the screen attracts fingerprints pretty easily, as does the screen. As others have mentioned, the trackpad is a bit...lacking. That's the "worst" thing for me, but it is ok enough. The biggest issue with the trackpad is that clicks do not always seem to register. I usually use a trackball, so not too big of a deal for me. I'm sure if I were a gamer, I'd want something else. Coding in a coffee shop? Yeah, it's tolerable. I was a little worried about compile times on the SSD, but so far it hasn't been an issue. If it becomes one, I can always upgrade to an NVMe drive. 16 GB of RAM holds up well, but there will come a time where I need 32 GB - I'm thankful upgrading is an option. The keyboard is great for typing. The LEDs are a bit much for meetings, but they can be disabled or toned down to something more subtle. It would be cool if there were VI bindings for the LED lights, and maybe I'm just the nerd to try to make that happen, but it's ok. Overall, this is a very capiable machine, and outside of some very minor nitpiks, I can't complain. Perhaps my use isn't a good use of the hardware (although I'd like to play around with data vis using VR), but I'm quite happy with what MSI has done here.less

Happily Returned Alienware for this MSI Stealth
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought Dell Alienware for my gamer 15 year old and had to return it next day because the fan never stopped. Instead got another Alienware and while fan did not run all the time, it was crazy loud and when I called Dell to see if it was normal, they said it was not and that I should return it. I did. But no more Dells. Two duds in 3 weeks was enough. I got my son this Stealth instead and it works great! he is in gaming heaven! Thank you Best Buy sales manager Andrew for the fabulous recommendation for a gaming computer that we could rely on.
