Let me preface this review by commenting that searching for laptops for college can be a labyrinthian adventure that seems to have you searching from website to website for a laptop that meets your requirements. There are many good qualities that I searched for in a laptop going into an engineering course, one of which included a dedicated graphics card. For the materials included within, this laptop delivered on a spectrum I hadn't even fully considered was in the realm of possibilities in terms of what I could get out of a laptop. Understanding how uncommon it is to boast both dedicated graphics and 144hz refresh rate on gaming laptops, even by today's standard, allowed me to realize that this purchase would be well worth the investment for using a laptop for the next four years. And by the way, can we talk about the design of this thing? I consider the GS63 Stealth to be the little brother to this behemoth of a rig, and for 400 dollars more the packaging, the design, the je ne sais quoi of feeling this premium MSI product in your hands, is incomparable to the GS63 stealth. Well worth the investment of 2,000 dollars, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a laptop going into university or for hobby usage.

I did a lot of research before settling on the MSI GS65 Laptop. My Requirements were GTX 1070 Minimum, 120+ HZ refresh rate and decent portability. These requirements yielded only thre results that i liked. Asus Zephyrus series(poor battery performance), MSI GS65 and Razer Blade(high price). Initially price wasn't a factor for me, it did greatly influence my choice towards MSI GS65 in the end. Thin bezels was a pleasant bonus.
Overall I'm really happy with my purchase.
Pros: Can play games at good fps; doesn't look too Gamerly when i take it to work; portable; web cam at the top of the screen;nice keyboard; big touch pad;
Cons: the Laptop fans can get loud, but easily remedied with the MSI software to manually control the fan speeds.

Powerful Laptop With A Few Issues

This laptop is great for gaming. The 144 hz screen is looks excellent and is greatly color accurate. It'll run any game you throw at it with great style and ease ("stease" one could say).. However, there are a few not super significant negatives about this computer though. The fans can get pretty loud when playing games, so you'll need headphones for this one ,and the chassis is very fingerprint-prone so I would recommend getting a skin somewhere like amazon. Other than that, the laptop is good.
TLDR: Is fast and look good but fingerprinty and loud fans.

A great machine for the price. Be aware that this model is a slightly downgraded one that has a slower SSD, a cheaper WiFi card, and Windows 10 Home. A clean install of Win10 Edu fixed that problem. Build construction is lower, which is probably the primary reason it's a few hundred cheaper than competing devices with similar internal specs. Pretty much everything presses in with a bit of force. I've found the touchpad to be mediocre. I really hate the current RGB fad, and the default flashing keyboard lights was making me dizzy. The keyboard utility lets you set any light pattern or disable it completely, which I did. The power adapter is pretty massive as well.
All that said I actually really like this laptop. I've been carrying around a bulky Dell gaming laptop from a few years ago that's been killing my back. For the weight and thickness this is a great model. I've played Battlefield One on medium-high and Squad on medium so far. Screen quality is about what you'd expect. I personally haven't had any major heating issues even when gaming.
Be aware of what you're getting and I think you'll like this laptop. It's by no means a desktop replacement, but no laptop is. If you're happy playing new games at 1080p 30fps and medium-high settings you'll be happy.

This laptop is by far the best computer that i have even owned. I run SoildWorks and other 3d modeling programs and this thing never skips a beat. like not joking this thing rips. i have had no problems what so ever. the screen is amazing and looks great outside in the sun. the speakers sounds great and the keyboard feels great. the construction is nice and looks really good and low-key without a ton of RGB lights every where it looks professional. if you have made it this far in the review congratulations, you deserve this computer. one last thing, the battery is about 4 hours running excel and the internet with some modeling. Just buy it, you wont regret it.

This rig can do it all. Powerful enough to easily tear through today's games at 1080p while portable enough, with enough battery life, to handle everyday tasks.
Love this laptop - zero regrets. If you're on the fence, just jump right on off it and head to Best Buy before this awesome deal ends.

I spent a month reviewing laptops, watching video reviews, and checking pricing, and I landed at BestBuy looking at this MSI Stealth Thin.
It feels like a full size PC when I'm using it. I have a hard time remembering that it's a thin, lightweight, portable.
So far I have yet to play a game on this machine that doesn't run 90+ fps with max graphics, but your mileage may vary.
It comes out of the box, with a full sized screen towel, that doubles as a protector between the screen and the keyboard while closed, an excellent touch. My laptops often show the ware of the keys rubbing the screen while closed, and this should help minimize or prevent that, time will tell.
I also really appreciate the inclusion of an MSI laptop sleeve, it's not a heavy duty item, but it's enough padding to make a difference.
Overall, 5 days in, I'm loving this machine. The screen is amazing, and it's lightning fast.
If you are in the market for a gaming laptop, give this MSI a close look, you will not be disappointed.

Great All Around Review

I spent weeks researching laptops to fit my need.
Requirements:
1. Great Specs
2. Decent Battery Life
3. Need to handle 3D modeling and gaming
4. Great design and build quality
5. Not a heavy brick
This lead me to three computers (Aero X15, Razer Blade 15, and GS65). Soon the X15 fell out due to bad battery life. I was coming from a Macbook Pro 15 and build quality is important . And some users were saying the GS65 has problems with build quality, so I went to best buy to see the display model and it wasnt enough to make me run away. The quality feels nice and there is only flex if you are applying a good amount of pressure at those points on purpose. The computer feels good in your hand when carrying it and doesn't feel cheap. The reason I picked this over the Blade 15 was $600 cheaper for the same performance, and concern on their QA/ QC process.
Some improvements that can be made for the next version of this model
1. Easier to add more storage and RAM.
2. I feel build quality could be improved easily without dramatically increasing weight.
I am very happy with my choice over the other two and you will be too.

Just purchased the MSI GS65 stealth and what I love about what this laptop offers is the speed and aesthetic of the laptop. I was really looking for a thin and light laptop and the MSIGS65 was perfect for its slim and thin bezel along with the lightness of the laptop. What I also really like was the screen display which makes it smoother and crispier for my eyes in my opinion. One con i noticed is that the fan can randomly be disruptive but not too loud and hopefully wont be a concern in the future. Overall, this laptop was definitely worth and I look forward to using it for school/office work along with gaming!

I've been toying with the idea of adding a gaming laptop to the computer arsenal for all the times I don't want to walk off into the man cave. Until recently I wasn't impressed enough with what was out there to take the plunge. I'm also quite spoiled by using Mac Pros & Macbook Pros for the past decade. I've also been building Windows machines since the 286 chip. I like both Operating Systems for their strengths and use them accordingly. And my point is, I appreciate the combination of good software and hardware that create an enjoyable computing experience.
The MS65 keyboard is fantastic. I think it is a good blend of travel and clickiness. The trackpad is another story. Being spoiled by the Mac trackpad it is hard for any Windows machine to compete. I will say this is not nearly as bad as most. I would also recommend switching out the drivers for the better precision ones. Just Google "MSI GS65 touchpad precision drivers."
Having lived on higher resolutions I was concerned about going back to 1080p. Can't say there are any problems. Everything looks pretty decent on this screen. And speedy refresh rates are incredibly underrated, so if this is your first >60 refresh rate you'll have a hard time going back.
Also picked up a SteelSeries Rival 310 mouse to match up with the keyboard. They pair nicely and the lighting effects are fun.
The things I don't like: missing media keys for play, next track, etc. I'm also not a fan of the high fan speed and heat buildup that comes during hefty loads, but I understand the trade-off for size/weight. Undervolting the CPU has helped a little. I'm trying to decide if it is annoying enough to switch out the thermal paste for liquid metal.
Overall, this is a 5 star machine. Regardless of the minor issues reviewers state, and how harshly some may come across, I am impressed that so many still rate it 5 stars. In the battle against the Razer Blade & Gigabyte the keyboard, subtle styling, and extra M.2 slot were what pushed me toward MSI. I'm glad I went this way.

This laptops very well rounded. It’s strong enough to game on. I play Fortnite and CSGO on it, and I have no issues at all. The 144 hz screen feels so smooth that I don’t want to go back to anything else. It’s super portable as well. The gs65s my school laptop, and its a lot lighter than my MacBook Air.
Pros
The screen is 144 hz which is super helpful in all FPS games
The camera is on the top part of the screen
The bezels are pretty slim
Very versatile
The black and gold design doesn’t look “gamey”
Cons
The speakers are on the bottom of the laptop
The trackpad is okay, but not the best. I come from Apple

I'm very impressed with this laptop. The only thing that was holding me back was some reviews I had found which had said it had bad build quality or felt "flimsy". However, once I got it in my hands, it was perfectly fine. It is easily the best constructed MSI laptop I have used. Build quality and portability is important to me. I had originally purchased a Razer blade Stealth (2019) and while that won in both categories when compared to this laptop, it falls flat in performance. For about the same price, I got a MUCH more powerful laptop that is only about 2 inches bigger.
Couldn't be happier.

A dream come true

I still remember when I was 9 years old playing with my laptop emulators when out of no where the emulator froze for 2 seconds every 13 sec or so, and playing low demanding games at 18 fps or so, witch let me into a dream of having this beast of a computer that can run anything regardless of what it is.
Now 18 years old and owner of my first gaming grade pc an MSI gs65, find my self lost in this world of gaming lots of games to chose now that I can run them all, mean while playing 2008 games lol, It's funny how now that I have this laptop am going back to those years of fun I had with my old pc playing games with my friends and all, modding n64 games and playing combat arms at 13 fps, it just brings tears to my eyes of nostalgia of when we use to live close and hang out everyday.
The best purchase I've done I bet my 9 year old me is now desperate to grow up now jajajaja (Dominican forever).

I was skeptical about getting a laptop this size, without a full keyboard at first. After using it for about two weeks now, it was definitely a good choice. I bought it primarily as a work laptop. Something that was powerful enough to handle anything that I might come across while developing software and creating designs. It is very lightweight, slim, and professional looking. The other reason I purchased this was to have the option to game while I'm not working. Games run extremely well on this laptop, even if I am running development and/or design software at the same time.

The laptop has impressed me so far. I've been needing a laptop to game and also take on the go since I go back and forth between school and home often. I decided with the MSI GS65 in the end and I have not been disappointed. This thing is lightweight, slim, and sleek enough to bring to class or the office. It performs very well in games while staying cool and surprisingly quiet. I have been seeing max CPU temps of 67 degrees, and the fans are not obnoxiously loud at all. All in all this is a great option for anyone looking for a portable, lightweight and slim gaming rig.

Where to start! This laptop is a reasonably priced, incredibly powerful PC with an excellent form factor. Its 6 core 8th Gen Intel processor and NVIDIA GTX 1070 graphics card more than do the job of any gaming or video editing project required of them. On top of that, it fits easily into many laptop bags, so its portability (necessary for me) is great. I will say it does run somewhat hot when in an intensive gaming session, but other than that, I find that this machine perfectly suits my needs. Highly recommended.

Great Laptop and almost impossibly powerful for it's size/price. Fully customizable with a small problem of overheating. Will almost always require an external cooling system when running at full capacity but runs very well on default settings. I really enjoy the keyboard and the other finishing touches to the laptop that make it feel very polished. The specs speak for themselves but the user experience is great and the display also is phenomenal. All in all a great laptop for gaming and general all-purpose use.

The MSI GS65 Stealth 8ES is an impressive gaming laptop the thin, small profile is amazing when it comes to portability and the level of customization that the RGB keyboard allows is impressive. However, while I am able to play Ubisoft's The Division 2 on ultra settings the laptop tends to heat up quite a bit which I find concerning, but otherwise, it works great.
