My HP specter wasn't running an online game very well and was getting about 5fps when boss mob spawned and in 4 man boss raids. Saw the MSI and alienware side by side and decided the MSI meet all the specs I was looking for even with a gtx 1070 maxq. I install my online game and boot it up and getting 100-120fps in open world and 60 fps during world boss raids. Also installed far cry 5 and played the whole game on ultra. Absolutely flawless with minor lag spikes maybe once or twice in the 60+ hours I have logged. The rgb keyboard is beautiful and customizable options are great. It is so light compared to the 17in alienware laptop I was considering. Some negative is the 512gb hard drive. Far cry 5 took almost 70gb to install from steam so if you install your games, a usb type c hard drive maybe what you need to buy. The motherboard is flipped so installing your own ssd will take patience as there are many wires and screws to remove before you can access the hard drive ports. Search youtube for tutorials if you are considering expanding it yourself. Also there is a slight bend when opening the lid so be careful. This this is also a fingerprint magnet!!!! But for me it's relatively easy to clean if you do it regularly. Otherwise the natural oils from your fingers takes a bit of effort to remove if you wait more than a week or two. Also, if this thing is not plugged in you will notice a drop in performance, I was getting 30fps on battery and once you plug it in, back to 100fps. The charge cable is also a smart charger, it will not charge when the battery is around the 90% mark or higher. It is a battery saver to prevent overcharging and built into the computer. Dont be too alarmed if you notice a plugged in, not charging notice. Overall this is a great computer for the price, portability and performance.

Pros: 144hz screen 5 Hour Laptop Life (noticeable) LightWeight Extremely portable Mobile powerhouse able to play many games at full graphical settings if wanted The review about the trackpad sucking is user error its very responsive and very usable Cons: No case for the laptop to protect it. I mean 2k give us a sleeve or something to protect this tiny tiny laptop. I do agree the screen is thin so that worries me about it getting an impact, but thats what the case will be for.

I've been pleasantly surprised by this laptop. My experience has pretty much aligned with other reviews on here. The product gets excellent gaming performance, has a bright, vibrant screen (with decent color accuracy and a high refresh rate to boot), doesn't have an over-the-top 'gamer' aesthetic, and has a very tactile keyboard. There are a few things I would add that most reviews don't touch on: -The laptop comes with extra software installed, but a surprising chunk of it is actually useful. Aside from Norton, it consists primarily of productivity software or tools that provide legitimately useful laptop functions like access to different factory-calibrated color profiles. -It has less light bleed than most laptops I've run into with AUO panels - it's comparable to what I've seen on Surface Books. It also doesn't have the quite the level of strong rainbow-sparkling anti-glare coatings that ASUS gaming laptops have. -The power brick is 180W, and surprisingly compact. -The trackpad is good, definitely the best I've used on an MSI laptop. It supports Windows Precision gestures. -The keyboard has a surprisingly short throw to it. It's not bad, because there's a very distinct tactile click to each keypress, but it's not the typical 1.5 or 1.6mm key travel used for steelseries keyboards. Finally, there have been some concerns over build quality. It's definitely not at the same level as a macbook or razer blade, but it's pretty comparable to other gaming laptops. The chassis will flex just about anywhere if you put pressure on it, but sitting in your lap for typing on, it feels pretty decent. Most importantly, the keyboard deck doesn't flex while typing, and the device doesn't feel like it'll break - it just doesn't feel supremely solid, which was a tradeoff likely made for weight. I'd very happily recommend this.

This is hands down the best piece of tech I have ever purchased. Very expensive but if you can afford it look no further. The build is great and much better looking than the razer. My one and only complaint would be for a $2000 gaming laptop it has no reason to have such little SSD storage. Any game or program I throw at this computer it handles it like a beast. A++

I only recently bought this laptop and will update the more i use it, but after quickly installing my key games and using the device for several hours, i can already tell that this was an excellent choice. I love the new sleek design that MSI is using for the GS65 model. It gives it a premium look and does not shock as you take it into your office. I had read reviews regarding screen burn, dead pixels and a trackpad that was horrible to use. As far as my experience none of that is true. The trackpad is excellent and the only thing i had to change was the scrolling direction, to match what i was used to. The screen quality is excellent and games look great. The steelseries keyboard with custom color configurations is sweet, you can make pretty much any look you desire. The only cons i would have are as follows - 1. When under extreme workload the fans can indeed get pretty loud. A little louder than i have been used to in a laptop. This however is not a huge deal as i typically wear headphones if i am playing any game that will cause strain on the system. 2. there are areas in which the plastic body does flex, taking away from the overall quality of the device. I assume this is how they are able to get such a light laptop. Again very happy with the purchase and would recommend it for any gamer and business user.

    Amazing Gaming Laptop

The only thing this notebook doesn't know how to do is disappoint. I've been using it for a few weeks now to develop software, as well as play some of the most recent games out on the PC market. It's been a workhorse though it all. Even while under fairly decent load, the notebook only becomes moderately warm and only somewhat audible for cooling. Pre-loaded software is minimal, making it a much nicer experience when starting up for the first time. PROS This notebook definitely has them • Display: Clean with a good refresh rate and excellent on displaying darker colors. The bezel is probably just about as close as can be to the edge of the screen, making the display feel even larger • Graphics: Don't miss a step. The games I've played on here so far have all been able to be played at max resolution and quality • Keyboard: Definitely one of the nicer keyboards that I've used on a PC notebook. Keystrokes all feel good. Being able to fully customize the back-light colors and effects is really fun also. • Touchpad: Works well enough for most things. Multi-touch gestures are also nice and responsive. • Audio: Pretty good also, but in all fairness I tend to use a headset more often than not. • Battery: Life has been as good or better than I hoped. Of course, the more demanding the workload the shorter the lifespan, but the pre-loaded tools help and squeeze just a bit more juice out before reaching zero. CONS Nothing at all that would be a deal breaker, by any stretch. Only knit-picking follows... • Linux Software Support - All of the really cool management tools for customizing the keyboard, etc seem to be Windows-only. For most users, this is nothing to worry about at all, but is something to keep in mind for those that are going to (maybe) use another OS rather than Windows 10.

Honestly, this laptop is the best gaming laptop for the price--taking into account specs and build quality. It is 15 inches only, but the screen is so much bigger than it should be for its form because the bezels are tiny. The screen is incredible, 144mhz and sharp. I love this thing. It runs a little hot, but so do all gaming laptops. It's light. Looks great. Subtle for a gaming laptop. Sound is a little quiet, but that's my only real complaint.

This is the first time I've ever decided to get myself a gaming laptop , and this did NOT disappoint. The price tag may be a little intimidating, but when you take a step back, you're actually getting a lot out of the money you spend. You get a decent GPU (I got the GTX 1070 max-q) that's pretty much capable of running a good majority of the games on Ultra high settings whilst maintaining good fps (usually 60 fps or above). You get a good high refresh rate screen with outstanding color (very close to true to life) and outstanding brightness. There's little to no screen glare and the bezels are REALLY thin. The keyboard is also impressive! I absolutely love typing on this thing and the layout should be easy to get used to if you use any standard keyboard out there. The RGB lighting on the keyboard is fully customizable and overall impressive. The model I got came with 512GB of SSD and I am very much content with that. And it all comes in a small, thin and light laptop that could easily just have been an ultrabook. The design overall looks great! Sleek, and stealthy, and doesn't show off to the world how great of a beast this device is! You could totally bring it to meetings and be all "stealthy" about it. Reiterating the title: Simple, Professional, Stealthy, Powerful. The only downsides I could find in this laptop is the fact that upgrading this beast would take a lot of risk and skill as the motherboard seems to be flipped. That, and, well, the design is also kind of a fingerprint magnet, but many a solutions can be done to prevent such things. Overall, this is one of the best laptops out there in the market today... and I do my research.

Over the past four years I have had several garden variety laptops, both HP and Dell. The issue with my previous laptops was how slow they ran and on many occasions they would freeze or "lock-up." So, I did my research online and found a highly rated gamer's laptop, on PC Magazine. It was the MSI GS65 Stealth Thin. Within the first day of firing this bad boy up I knew I made the right purchase. This laptop is unbelievably fast and any command you enter occurs in a milli-second. I have not had one slow down or error code and anything you ask this laptop to do it gets it done. I would buy this laptop again in a heart beat.

This is a great value laptop assuming that it fits your budget. Pros: 6 core i7 with 16GB RAM, NVIDIA 1070, sturdy build quality, Cons: Chassis has a little flex, trackpad is average, MSI Windows 10 image is not optimal, fingerprint magnet and the stickers can be a pain to remove. Replacing an eight year old MacBook Pro; options were narrowed down to this or a new MBP. I couldn’t justify the price differential for MacOS and a better touchpad. Overall I am satisfied with my decision. My setup went as follows: Unboxed, updated EC Firmware and BIOS. Created Windows 10 bootable media using Microsoft’s media creation tool. Downloaded updated drivers from MSI. Performed fresh install of OS on a single partition (MSI’s imaged OS comes with a whacky partition scheme). Installed updated drivers and remaining software. Only issue that I ran in to was a ‘meh’ feeling when using the trackpad. After some research, I downloaded a Synaptics driver which enables the precision touchpad features in Windows 10. This has provided me a better experience. Conclusion: If you’re looking for a good value that will deliver high performance then you found it.

I was in the market for a laptop with a good MATTE screen, fast multicore CPU, and nice backlight keyboard that had rgb. All of this in an ultrabook format. This laptop has all of that. I didn't need it for gaming but it has a maxq 1070 which is basically a small form factor 1060 but with 8gb of vram. Its nice. I hated every other gaming computer on the market right now (June 2018). Only other competitor was the razer blade (not the stealth). But I don't really like razor products so I thought I was out of luck. Im bad with pros, I think of pros as being something I didnt expect to get with my money... but ill try: I really like the touchpad, iv tried alot of touchpads and this one works with me. I think its the best rgb keyboard on the laptop market right now. I think most other gaming computers are very ugly. This rgb is beautiful and I love how the fucntion keys light up when you hit FN. I only found 4 cons: 1. Battery does not last long, maybe 4-5 hours with just a browser and discord open. I would of been okay if it was a bit heavier with maybe an extra 2 hour charge. I understand gaming you should be plugged in but common. 2. I really like the casing, but it does seem a bit flimsy for a 2k computer. 3. The first program i opened after i started up crashed, it was very laggy doing basic things. It turns out that some gaming computers have been having problems where the GPU tells the CPU its going to take care of things and there is lag. However, most of the problems have been fixed by now, and you really just need to update your windows, update your graphics card, and youll be good to go. 4. It does get hot like people say, but so do all laptops. I think maybe when a gaming computer is marketed, they should include rebates or discounts towards a cooling pad or try and make an accessory specifically for the model. 4/5 stars because I feel like for a 2k computer, the material of the housing could be a bit higher quality. But all the silicon i got inside was worth it. Best buy has a pretty good deal on this laptop compared to other places currently. PS: Remeber that if you are reading this review, you are looking for a THIN laptop. If you dont care that its thin, and you want a powerhouse laptop. Buy something else.

For my first year of college I needed a machine powerful enough for the school work I would be doing and be able to push through the best current gaming titles when I would be at the dorm or returning home to my family. I was torn between this and the razer blade but in the end settled for the msi since I couldn't justify the pricing of the blade. I was NOT dissappointed. The build quality is superb and the display is beautiful. The machine runs great and plays all the current titles no problem. If you are torn between the blade and this msi laptop know that msi will not disappoint.

I've been looking for a "portable" gaming laptop for a while now. I picked this due to the size and weight of the laptop. No, it's not your 2.5 lb ultrabook, but it's thinner and lighter than most gaming laptops. I love the keyboard on my Pixelbook, but this keyboard is right up there along with it. The screen looks great too! My only complaint is the HD is partitioned into two drives with the second being smaller than the C drive. I plan on adding a HD in the future, so it's not a super huge deal, but just doesn't make sense to me. I would recommend this guy for anyone looking for a gaming laptop that is a little more portable than most.

This laptop is amazing. I just got it and already love it. The specs are great for the price and it contains a powerful cpu and gpu that will last many years. It also looks sleek and stylish which helps it to blend into a work setting but still packs a punch while playing games. The battery life is also very good for a gaming laptop with around 7 hours of browsing the internet and 2-3 hours of continuous gaming. The only con is a few creaking nosies when pressing down but I do not believe they are an issue and just some parts hitting each other, overall I would recommend

This is first MSI laptop that I have ever owned, and I have not been let down. While I was researching laptops, I came across the MSI GS65 and was pleasantly surprised to find a laptop that met all of my specification needs within a compact, light, and super portable frame. The only thing that I’ve noticed negatively about the computer is it does run louder and hotter than I would like. However these issues are unsurprising given how thin the laptop is, and the rest of the benefits greatly outweigh them. This computer is fast! While I haven’t tested it out intensely with games, I have ran code in seconds and minutes that would have taken my last computer hours to run through. Since I run data all day every day, saving that kind of time is a life changer. Additionally, the screen quality and resolution make staring at code for hours at a time easier on the eyes. Basically put I can’t say enough praise about this laptop. I can finally take my work everywhere I go without breaking my back lugging around a mammoth sized laptop. It also just looks plain cool, which is a nice bonus. Like everything in life, nothing is perfect, but if you are looking for a lightweight, thin, hard working, reliable laptop, then I can 100% recommend this one.

At the price point and for these specs, this is a solid choice. After comparing this model to the usual suspects (there are plenty of write ups about this elsewhere), I decided to go with this model for the following reasons: - The steelseries keyboard feels great to type on. I know there are mixed opinions on the font, but I happen to like them. - Price is right. I found the Best Buy pricing very competitive - Thin and slim, just like the name says. But, the light weight actually look me by surprise. It's very light compared to the other laptops in this segment. If you're thinking about buying this laptop, consider the following negatives: - There are plenty of people talking about the creak when you press your palm down on the chassis. Mine definitely has this creak, but I decided it wasn't going to be a deal breaker. Overall, the construction of this laptop is plastic (not aluminum, like say, a macbook) so this creates a lot of flex in the chassis, but also contributes to the lighter weight. - The trackpad is not great. But this is a common problem for PC laptops. This is a gaming laptop though, so I'll be with-mouse 90% of the time. The other 10% when I'm on the road handling work emails, it won't be a big problem.

This laptop does everything. It can game wonderfully, do productivity tasks with ease. At just over 4lbs, this thing is thin as well. Very sleek and professional looking. I would not hesitate to bring it in a work environment. The only thing I have noticed with this laptop is that it gets really warm. Other than that, msi has really nailed this.
