Gaming Laptop is No Longer a Gimmick
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to be the person who thinks a gaming laptop is unpractical and waste of money. It's bulky, heavy, and it will probably run out of battery 2hr after being unplugged from the outlet. Therefore, I have always done my PC gaming on desktop only. However, since late 2018 when lots of thin & light gaming laptop with GTX1070/1080 MAX-Q started to show up in the market, I started to see lots of rave reviews on this new category of laptops which look, feel, and weigh like a ordinary laptop but with graphical power of a desktop. After spending a few months reading reviews and waiting for the new products to launch, I finally pulled the trigger on the MSI GS65 Stealth with RTX2060. I have been using this laptop for about a week now, and I have to say it has shattered all my impressions on laptops. I have been playing the "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" on this laptop, and the game runs buttery smooth. It is simply an engineer marvel where a 4lb laptop can run AAA game with ease. The heat dissipation on this laptop is great even it is only 1.8mm in thickness. It has more heat pipes and upgraded fan design compared to the 2018 model. I went a step further and undervolt the CPU, and this laptop experience no thermal throttling issue during my gaming sessions. The 144Hz screen is gorgeous to look at when the bezel is almost non-existent. When playing games at 1080p, the frame rate can easily top 90fps on this machine, and that 144Hz screen will make you appreciate how smooth the on screen motion is. I will mostly used this at home connected to an outlet, but this thing can easily last 6 hours (web surfing, steaming video) on battery when unplugged. It uses Nvida Optimus Technology to automatically switch over to integrated graphics to conserve battery power. Since this is only weighs a bit more than 4lb, I probably will take this to places while on the go. I am literally selling off my desktop components on eBay right now. This has become my desktop replacement, and it will serve me well for at least the next 5 years.

Amazing Performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the MSI GS65 Stealth-006 for about two weeks and love it. There is a lot of processing and graphics power in this gaming laptop. I have enjoyed playing a few games on it in Ultra settings. I also have been busy doing normal work with Microsoft Office products and the usual web browsing. One of the great features of this laptop is how light it is compared to other laptops with similar specs. It is very easy to carry around by hand or in a backpack. The battery life is also very good. I worked on the computer for over two hours and had no need to charge even when I was done. It may not last as long gaming on battery life, but you can definitely take it somewhere for work or studying without issue. While it does not have a DVD/CD Drive, I was instantly able to burn backup discs with an external DVD burner through USB. The screen is nice and bright with a solid resolution. I was pleased that MSI included a good screen with this product. Other nice features with this laptop are the large touchpad, keyboard, single stick of 16 GB RAM, and the SSD. I hardly use touchpads, but have actually enjoyed the one on this laptop. There is a lot to like about this gaming laptop. I am very pleased with purchasing it.

Sleek, powerful, and stylish gaming laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was shopping around for a new gaming laptop and compared the values and specs of various companies and models. A big selling point for me was a somewhat smaller footprint and stylish looking gaming laptop. I also wanted it to be quite powerful to run most anything. The game I have been playing lately has been APEX Legends and it's been running like a dream. Just for fun I loaded a couple of my other games such as Forza Horizon 4 and a few others to test them out and they look great! The laptop itself is comfortable and runs really well. I would say if you are in the market for a new gaming laptop, this one gives a pretty good deal for what's packed inside. Pros: LED keyboard with customization Giant Trackpad(if you like them) Fantastic Specs(i7, 2060 w/6GB VRam) Cons: One design choice was that I don't care for the power cable going in front of the exhaust fan on the right hand side, but that is more of a personal preference as it works just fine. This probably had to do with getting the fans in the spot they are in to cool the unit effectively. It's a minor gripe, but honestly this laptop does so much better with the rest, I don't have any issues. I recommend this for your everything laptop!

Not perfect but still great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A little background about myself. I usually stick to desktop for gaming and programming needs. I usually wouldn't recommend a laptop for gaming laptop are usually bulky and as heat is a big issue. I've research for weeks before I came to the conclusion of choosing the MSI GS65. The MSI GS65 was able to impress me on how well it performs under gaming(Mostly OverWatch). The price may be steep for some and can be built for maybe two-third of the cost if you go desktop route. But that the cost for being slim, light, performance and being portable. I would recommend the RTX 2080 version instead if the extra cost is not a problem, but this still a great gaming laptop. Pros: -Great performance -Slim -144hz -Good GPU -Fan(Able to keep the CPU and GPU under 80c while gaming when fan max out) -MSI's Dragon Center Software -Awsome back lit keyboard with numerous of color and style themes Cons: -Battery life(3-4 hours unplugged) -Heat -Fan(May bother some if maxed out, but does do the job) -Built quality(some creaking sound on some parts of the laptop) -ac plug in a weird spot, but not too much of a problem -sound quality is decent Overall I would recommend this. If your unsure, I definitely recommend some youtube review on this or try out the display model at bestbuy. I hope this help you, as usually i don't write reviews but feel need to as im starting to really love this laptop.

Great power in a portable package!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, you’re looking for a gaming laptop huh? Well you’ve come to the right place but before we get too far into the review lets start with the basics. You should know if you’re looking for a gaming laptop, due to the small and light package of a laptop, you’ll never be able to get the same kind of power output from a laptop as you will with a desktop. If you are a hardcore gamer, if you are looking to squeeze every drop of power from your GPU, please look elsewhere. Yes, an RTX2060 will run The Witcher 3, with hair effects on and it will look great doing it, but the laptop will run hot, the fans will be on overdrive and the battery will drain very quickly. So, if you don’t need the portability, then do yourself a favor a look at some desktops, you’ll get more bang for your buck and better overall performance. But now, to the nitty gritty of it all. The MSI GS65 Stealth is a wonderful laptop. It offers all the power and performance anyone could need in a small and light package while keeping the cost down. I picked up mine on sale for $1800, which all things considered, is a bargain. The only other similar product is the Blade from Razer, MSRP is over $2200 for the exact same specs. The question from here is how does the GS65 stack up? Starting with the externals, you’ve probably noticed it looks good, a dark and sleek finish with gold accents help this laptop look professional but anyone that looks a bit closer will know there is more than meets the eye. Build quality and feel are solid. The laptop has enough heft to let you know you’re carrying around a powerhouse without being overly cumbersome. It tucks nicely into a backpack and from there can be easily forgotten when slung over the shoulder. Honestly, if you consider the size of the case, it feels pretty darn rigid. The amount of flex in the body is really mild and for the most part to be expected from a portable laptop of any type. Still, no complaints. The keyboard…is shallow, we’re talking kiddy pool shallow. With that in mind, MSI still did a great job with the keyboard. Its easy to move across quickly and they provide just enough feedback to make the typing experience enjoyable. It doesn’t compare to the wonderful keyboard on the GS63, but the sacrifice is honestly minimal. While on the topic of the keyboard, the individual, per key RGB lighting on the keyboard with tons of customization and effects help keep the typing experience enjoyable even if purely aesthetic. On to the track pad…I LOVE it! The size and feel are exactly what they should be. We know you’re not going to game on it, but for regular productivity work, it’s a great feel with a smooth touch, a great click and very good sensitivity. Finally, the screen. Everyone is all over 4k these days when the truth of the situation is that you’ll never really use 4k, especially on a laptop. 1080p with a high refresh rate is all you need, and It looks great. The screen has a matte finish, anti-glare if you will. It works well in most environments, just not the best for outdoors. The brightness is great, color saturation is on point and while I have heard stories of some people getting some backlight bleed, mine is pretty much perfect. There is one big con with the exterior package, it picks up fingerprints like crazy. It doesn’t matter how clean your hands are, if you touch it, you’re going to leave a mark. Its not the end of the world but it’s a bit annoying. Now, why you’re really here. The performance. Chances are most people that buy this laptop are going to play SOME games, but not relay push the limits of what the PC can do. It’s like buying a Ferrari just so you can run down to the shops with it. Regardless, if you do decide to open this baby up, you will not be disappointed. Games like PUBG are a non-event to run. They are smooth and they look great. When you step up to games like The Witcher or Tomb Raider you’ll lose a few frames, but you’re still well above console standards with better resolution mind you. I have not had a chance to play a game that will utilize the RTX ray tracing ability, but I’m sure it won’t have any problems after all it’s what the RTX was designed to do. When you start gaming, heat kicks up considerably. MSI does a great job of cooling the GPU and CPU and they were creative when it came to positioning the intake and exhaust ports. So, the laptop does a great job of maintain the heat. If you push it too hard to too long you will notice a bit of thermal throttling, but honestly not much. One thing to keep in mind, because the intake is on top behind the keyboard and the exhaust on the sides, a cooling pad will do you no good. I have yet to play around with positions that keep the laptop cooler, but to be totally honest, other than a bit of warmth from the keyboard, its not all too noticeable. As to be expected when you start gaming the fans kick on and stay on. They’re not overly loud, but you’ll want to use headphones. When you consider everything this laptop offers in terms of great gaming performance, a small package, light weight along with a RTX graphics card AND over 5 hours of battery life (depending on usage), there really isn’t much to complain about. It does everything well. There is no such thing as the “perfect laptop” because everyone needs something different from their machines, but the MSI GS65, comes pretty darn close. I am a full-time worker, full-time student, and part-time gamer, I couldn’t ask for a better PC. The only reason this laptop got 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the finish, the keyboard and the design quark of having the motherboard attached to the chassis upside down. The SSD (512GB) on the computer is small, had the motherboard been attached the correct way it would be no problem to swap for something with a better capacity. However, because the motherboard is on upside down it needs to be removed to access the rest of the internals, in short, this laptop it not friendly to DIY PC enthusiasts. Problem is also easily fixed with an external drive. Overall, it’s still a great laptop.

Excellent portable gaming laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is just awesome for the price I got it for. I had been looking for a good gaming laptop for a while. The major criteria for me was a laptop which is light weight, has powerful performance, good battery life, easy to carry around. I was considering Alienware 15M, Razer 15 and this one. After waiting for probably over a month I found this laptop on sale at BestBuy and immediately bought it. I must say this laptop looks way more stunning in person and would recommend going in store to check it out. I've found the battery life to be very good. Using it for normal activities, I think it probably lasts around 6 hours. It does have some faults as one would read in other reviews but overall it is definitely one of the good gaming laptops in the market. I truly recommend this if you are wanting something that is light weight and give great performance on the go.

Definitely Recommend !!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased the MSI - 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 - 512GB Solid State Drive - Matte Black With Gold Diamond Cut and all I could say is great things about this machine. At first I was a little hesitate on the price and how it only has 512 GB space, compared to the cheaper model which brings 1TB with a lower graphic card though, but I'm definitely glad I chose this one. Yes it's a little pricey, but the way the computer feels, weights, runs, the color shifting led light on the keyboard makes it absolutely worth it. Looking forward to gaming and everyday use on this laptop.

False Hope
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Stoked to get this laptop after waiting for years for the perfect pc to be portable for work but still play games on high or ultra. The gaming on this is trash, it's supposed to be more than twice as powerful as my Xbox one X but this thing is running games like a ps3. Ridiculous micro stuttering in all games slows things to a crawl, i can barely play anything on medium settings. I had a gtx 480 5 years ago that ran games way better my switch runs games way better. What is going on with this machine? I go to the Nvidia forums and seems a bunch of people are having problems with micro stutterinf/terrible framerates with these graphics cards. Would be interested to hear other experiences.

Extreme performance on a light and thin notebook
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a really beautiful notebook. Its thin and its light and very powerful. You can do whatevr day to day activities here and it wont make an extreme difference on you bagpack. But where it really shines is, of course, gaming. Im playing on 1920*1080 on ultra on most games I have tried, and moving onto more demanding ones. It shines. Keyboard is great also, with just the right amount of pressure. And the lights are cool too.

Great Gaming Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first order had a clicking fan sound but BestBuy was able to take a return and ship a new one. New one that arrived is working great so far, it's lightning fast and I love the steelseries rgb keyboard. AAA games run on this like butter, most are hitting 70+fps without hiccup and with lower settings I see closer to 120fps. This is also very light, I do wish they used a more durable materials than plastic but I guess the lightness comes from the plastic.

A worthy laptop for EDC
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For months, I have been eyeing Gigabyte Aero 15 gaming laptops with GTX1070 or RTX 2060/2070. It had all I wanted: Slim, powerful, big battery, and Intel Optimus to take advantage of it all to make it truly portable. But its pricing is way beyond what I would tolerate. In came MSI GS65 Stealth 006 on sale. It is almost everything I wanted, but at the sale price, I finally bought it. After I got it and used it for a bit, I can fully confirm most of the reviews of this laptop on various forums: Pro: Attractive design, love the keyboard, screen is as good as it gets, metal frame is strong and has a quality feel, CPU and GPU are both up to par in terms of everything I can throw at it as a casual gamer, and finally, I can get a decent portable session (wifi related work) with the built-in battery alone. Con: Just as everybody said, it is loud under load, I wish battery is bigger, and of course, easier access to both sides of the mobo. And since I knew of the thermal issue from all the reviews, I knew I will need to re-paste the CPU and GPU to make the fan spin at a reasonable level. Which it did. It is not difficult to do so, since I need to upgrade and install additional NvME SSD's anyway, re-pasting is just a few steps more. While it is tedious to do so, re-pasting other gaming laptops are even tougher. So the the ease of the mobo removal offset the upgrade access issue somewhat. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and choice. It should serve me for at least a year or two before I need to upgrade again.

Significant step up in build quality from 2018
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased the GS65 with a GTX 1070 Max-Q model last year, and while I absolutely loved the performance and design of the device I was let down by minor quality control issues that continued to pop up. An off-kilt touchpad that didn't quite feel right under the finger, a stuck pixel, creaky body when lifting or moving the device, etc. It wasn't enough to make me stop using such a capable and gorgeous device, but it definitely impacted my overall impression. Eventually I brought the laptop in for a repair over a malfunctioning LED under one of the keys and was offered a refund-- I chose to spend it on the 2019 model with the 2060. Enter this new device, and I'm completely blown away. Every single minor complaint I had has been fixed with this year's model. MSi was listening and learning from customer feedback, and I'm truly impressed. The new larger touchpad feels silky smooth to the touch, and has a snappy and responsive click-- it's a total joy to use now. The body feels more rigid, solid and premium with no creaking whatsoever. The screen feels more solid and evenly lit, and the power button has been moved to a new location and feels more responsive as well. The performance, which was an absolute beast on the previous year's model, is back with a vengeance. I haven't done extensive testing, but this i7/2060 model seems to be running cooler and quieter out of the box as well. I highly recommend this product now, as it seems MSi's quality control and manufacturing is catching up to their ahead-of-the-curve design. I can't wait to see what they put out next.

Sexy Beast
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Grabbed this for the ridiculously low price of $1499. $1499 for an RTX 2060, 144Hz panel, Steel Series Keyboard and Windows Precision trackpad is the deal of the year in my opinion. The first unit I had was riddled with problems. Felt flimsy, the trackpad did not work properly (moved on its own, unresponsive), and the backlight bleed was extremely pronounced. I returned it for a new one and I have to say it is the BEST laptop I have ever owned (formerly had a Razer Blade 2018 Advanced). Graphics & Performance - 10 The RTX 2060 is beastly. The performance is so impressive and despite having the same amount of memory as the GTX 1060, it blows it out of the water. I'm seeing an average of 30%+ FPS and much steadier frame rates. It's such a buttery smooth experience. There is 0 tangible dropoff in performance when connecting to an external display. You really need a 144hz monitor to appreciate it fully though. For this price point, it's the optimal experience. 16 GB Ram and 8th-gen i7 make sure your system is bottleneck free and optimized for any game. Display - 10 Luckily the built-in display is 144hz and man, it is awesome. Bright, super accurate colors, and even if you have a model with some light bleed, it is unnoticeable unless you are in a pitch black room. Games are super fluid and really look their best on the built-in monitor. If you have never experienced a 144hz display before, you'll never want to use anything else once you do. Even using Windows 10 or browsing the web is a blast because it feels snappy and fluid. Viewing angles are great. Keyboard - 8.5 The keyboard feels good to type on, has a decent amount of travel and some atypical hotkeys. All keys can be customized using the Steel Series drivers to program macros or media functions. Just my opinion, but the design and lettering of these keys is ugly to me...read somewhere that it is reminiscent of the Spiderman font which is totally true. Not the worst, but doesn't really match with the sleek look they were going for in the rest of the design language. RGB lighting is per key looks great and functions well. Trackpad - 7.5 The trackpad is probably the worst part about this laptop. While the Windows Precision drivers work well for the most part, the trackpad is shaped weird and located very close to the keyboard. This would be fine if the palm rejection technology was on point like an Apple Macbook, but MSI hasn't done a good job with that quite yet. The first model I purchased had a malfunctioning trackpad out of the box, so be careful. Sound - 5.5 They are speakers and you can hear stuff with them. Not sure why they seem to be marketing the sound as high definition or whatever, but expect below average sound. Definitely grab a headset or use external speakers if audio quality and volume is important to you. Thermals & Fans - 10 It is a wonder how cool this thing stays (relatively speaking) when pushing out buttery-smooth ultra setting graphics on an external monitor. MSI has done a great job with ventilation and cooling on this laptop. I've never gone above 80 degrees playing games like Overwatch, Destiny 2, and Black Desert Online. The fans are quiet compared to tech from Alienware and Razer especially on idle. I seriously thought that my fans had died or something because the laptop was dead silent when doing simple tasks. Battery Life - 10 I was legitimately shocked at how good the battery is for this laptop. Considering all the hardware in this machine, MSI did an amazing job at optimizing the low-power mode because I can get a legit 5 hours out of doing basic work tasks. Might not seem like a lot if you are coming from an ultrabook or Macbook, but as far as thin gaming laptops go, this is at the top of the list. My Razer Blade never lasted longer than 3 hours and my Alienware lasted about 2.5 hours. Build Quality - 7.5 My previous laptops before this were the Macbook Pro, Alienware 15R4 and Razer Blade, all of which are renowned for build quality and sturdiness. The GS65 feels straight up fragile by comparison, so expect to baby it and take good care of it. The MSI GS65 is almost perfect, but with some potentially persistent minor issues. However, all of these problems have simple solutions. The pros far outweigh the cons and overall, it is an absolute joy to use and game on.

Thin, light and powerful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The MSI GS65 is a tremendous value for the power it delivers! Couldn't be happier with this purchase and look forward to being able to expand/upgrade in the future. Screen is smooth and sharp with great color reproduction. No tearing and maintains sharp imaging on fast moving objects. Even when not gaming, this feature adds tons of benefit since it allows extended screen time to be much easier on the eyes. Bright enough for indoor and outdoor use. I am pretty pleased with how easy it is to travel around with and portability. Yes, there is some flex in the keyboard deck. Its noticeable but the keys feel great, they are responsive and the typing is fast. This thing has loads of processing power for gaming. Yes it will heat up significantly and throttle. Keep on a hard surface while gaming and you will minimize the slow downs. Not going to completely rid the thermal throttling. I am thoroughly impressed by having the portable gaming capabilities though. Overall I love this laptop. I can see a lot of use ahead of me for the next couple few years and would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to have desktop like power in a light and portable machine.

Best Laptop around, Only one Issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this laptop shipped to me with 2-day shipping and arrived fully intact and charged in 2 days, as it should be. This laptop is great in just about every way, it is very fast, light, and can be used for a large variety of tasks. I am an engineering student and this is the computer I would recommend to all my friends. The only problem I've had so far is, When the laptop uses Optimus and switches from the Intel Graphics to the Nvidia Card the computer will freeze and must be force restarted, this has only happened 2 times so far and I have attempted to stop Optimus and only use the Nvidia card however for basic tasks like Google and Word this is kind of a bummer because it kills the battery life much faster, even so, this laptops battery is huge and still lasts most my day without needing to be charged if I am not playing intensive video games. The last thing I want to mention is how great the fans in this laptop are even though it is the thinnest and lightest full GPU laptop available, it doesn't even get as hot as my 7-year-old mac book pro, It was a good decision to switch from apple.

Runs great, and love the lines.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this laptop in April of this year. I recently was forced to put my desktop into storage, so this is my first gaming laptop. Holy guacamole... it's so fast, and so pretty. I find my self spending too much time messing around with the keyboard LEDs (currently a soft violet). It runs any game I throw at it at max settings with FPS > 60. It is a bit noisy, but I don't usually notice since I am wearing headphones. I love the size, the laptop feels light and well built, and fits into my backpack very well. It also looks great. Some of the laptops I saw online when I was shopping looked like spaceships. I feel like I could bring this to work and nobody would bat an eye (until they saw the glowing keyboard!) Based off of some advice I read about gaming laptops and concern for things getting too noisy, I immediately bought a fan to put under it, so I have not had any issues with heat. Overall, I love it very much. I know this is my first gaming laptop and all, so my review may not be the most helpful, but from my perspective, this thing is sweet.

Exactly what I needed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not expecting to purchase this laptop because it was out of my price range but Best Buy had it on sale and it jumped to the top of my list. Let me start by saying it looks way more appealing in person. I would say go to bestbuy and look at it because once you do you will buy it if it’s in your budget. The laptop runs smooth and what I’ve liked so far is that it’s not like other thin and light laptops; it actually runs cool. It gets hot don’t get me wrong but it does not overheat. It gets to normal temperature you’d expect from such a powerful laptop. The msi software it comes with is really nice as you can prolong the life of the battery and also adjust it if you need more power. The only downside I see to the laptop is that it does get loud. I accept this as it must be difficult to have to laptop Tun cool with a low sounding fan. Besides that this laptop made me pass up on Alienware and razer which were my first choices. I’ve used other MSI products but now I’m a loyal laptop user if they continue to make the stealth models with such great quality.
