average
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish Best Buy had more of the MSI models on display. The sales associate did not seem real interested in helping us and was not very personable. I went to the store with a model in mind and wanted to see some on display. The only one displayed was the one costing $1000 more than this one...so we had to purchase this model "sight unseen".

Just not impressed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this as a replacement to a high end dell laptop and or the 3 year old macbook pro and I was not impressed. It really felt cheap and the screen reminded me of laptops I had years ago. The performance was decent just not a keeper for me... I returned it

A Bit Over Sold
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s not a terrible laptop and probably a great laptop for gaming but for graphic development there are too many issues with Windows 10 and the MSI motherboard. Have had a terrible number of crashes already and a couple hard resets. Wouldn’t buy one again.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to set up but we barely used it and within an hour the battery was dying, we plugged it in and it said not charging.... which didnt make sense because we DID plug it in. But we returned it.

Long Lasting even while pushing graphics limits.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using this laptop for 3.5 years and it still works great. I use both graphics programs and graphics heavy games like World of Warcraft, DCUO, SWTOR and a minecraft modded pack with 390 mods installed. When I looked back to see you long I have had it, I knew I would be buying an MSI again when I upgrade.

A good laptop for a fair price with a few issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a long time Mac and PC user. But I have chosen to travel with a Mac for a long time. I decided that Macs were just not worth the price of admission anymore and started to look a PC that could do everything my Mac could do and also game. For the price, you would be hard pressed to find a similarly spec'd thin and light gaming laptop. MSI has done a good job of making this laptop thin and light. In terms of power and thermal management, it does a good job for its class. I ran GeekBench and consistently got 5000 single core and 20000 multicore scores. Cinebench is scoring in the 2000's. I didn't get much thermal throttling when running back to back benchmarks. The fans are not quiet but they are not loud either under load. With 32GB of DDR4 RAM and a 9th gen Core i7 9750H, this is a capable machine that could be used for gaming and video editing. The RTX 2060 is not of the Max Q variety, so you get close to RTX 2070 Max Q speeds. The screen is good but not great. Color accuracy is decent, but the monitor shouldn't be used for color correcting. The max brightness is fine for indoor use, but you will have a hard time seeing what you are doing outside on a sunny day. This screen comes in at under 300 nits of brightness. On the other hand, it is 240Hz, which is amazing for gaming. I purchased this laptop while also considering Razer, Lenovo, Asus and Acer. I went with this one because I wanted a thin and light laptop that I could use for productivity, video and photo editing, and also to play some games. I also didn't want my laptop to look like a gaming laptop. Save for the MSI logo on the lid, it doesn't give away it's gaming DNA. The per-key RGB lighting is nice and you have a good level of control with the Steel Series software. The black anodized finish is pretty delicate and will definitely scratch off with light use. There is definitely flex in the body and screen of the laptop, but I am coming from the Mac unibody world, so everything except for Razer feels flimsy to me. I would just get a skin or maybe a case. Otherwise, this laptop is great for what I need it for. If I had all the money in the world, I would go with the Razer Blade, but I don't feel like I am giving up much by going with the MSI GS-65.

Great performance at a great value
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's rare to see a thin laptop built for gaming that doesn't stand out like a sore thumb. The exterior design is very high end without the typical looks of obnoxious gaming laptops. The performance vs price point was amazing for this laptop. I will be playing some games, but mainly working on 4K video editing. So far, everything has started up, installed, and ran smoothly. The keyboard stroke is a bit short, but the tactile feel is great. Coming from a Logitech Romer-G mechanical unit, this is working quite well. The RGB lighting is quite vibrant (not my thing, so I've set a solid color) and has many available cycling/single color modes. The performance settings are easily changed with the Dragon Center software from MSI. The only drawback is upgrading-- the motherboard is mounted a certain way which will make self-upgrades a bit difficult. Be sure to purchase the right build you'd like-- don't save some money now to deal with heartache later for upgrades.

Not What I Expected
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read a lot of positive reviews on MSI PC's... Mainly looking for a powerful Gaming Laptop that was fairly priced and was fully upgradable... and I mean fully upgradable. Unfortunately, after purchasing a $1900 dollar MSI Gaming Laptop, I'm not so convinced that I was reading honest reviews or research info. That is not what I received. It's powerful enough for what I expected in that sense... and it runs fine when it isn't having issues with the speakers. However, not at all what-so-ever the best I could have got for the money. Service is not good either. It's hard to communicate with MSI... You have to first start by filling out a Tech support request on their website. After numerous attempts, I was finally able to get a phone number... Of course, that didn't happen until the warranty ran out... then I finally get a number to actually communicate with them directly/verbally and get my point across. The reason I say that is because when you email them through the online support request form, it seems like they speed-read the first couple sentences, if that, and then assume the rest... and then you get a half-assed answer to a question that isn't necessarily what you were looking for. Happened 3 times. Finally, after the warranty expired, I get someone who actually read my request and gave me a number to call. However, now they are telling me that I'm going to have to pay for the speakers because the warranty expired. Let me tell you... if you're a busy guy like I am, that year goes by super fast. Not to mention, the problem/issue didn't start right away... it started a few months after the purchase, so I should actually correct that and say 9 months goes by fast! 3 months after I purchased the laptop, I started getting a pretty annoying tick in my speakers. Of course, I didn't know it was my speakers at first because I initially thought it was the fan, due to reading about all the fan issues that these MSI laptops are having, as well as speaker issues. Finally, I figured out that it was actually the speakers ticking. The tick wouldn't be so annoying if you didn't lose the sound during the tick also... and it's repetitive, and never stops! It gets very tiring after several months of dealing with it. Trying to have meetings online and having to hook up a Bluetooth speaker or earphones so I can hear the full sentences people say without missing parts of it constantly. The worst part of all this, as I mentioned above, is that I thought I was purchasing a fully upgradeable Laptop... but that's not entirely accurate. Number 1, the space is so limited inside the laptop to even upgrade and they put the motherboard in basically upside down. In other words, you have to take the motherboard out with most of the other notebook parts to get to any upgradable parts, including RAM which should be easily accessible and right under the lid... or have a compartment to access it as other brands do. I need to replace the keyboard because a couple of keys were broken off accidentally and the keys can't be replaced due to the way they broke, so when looking into purchasing a keyboard, I found out that the keyboard cannot just simply be replaced like most every other laptop in the world. At least not without having to purchase half the case with it. They riveted the keyboard to the front panel. Oh yeah, don't forget you have to take the laptop completely apart right down to the bare bones to replace it if needed. Unreal! Literally, have to not only buy the whole piece for a couple of hundred dollars but then on top of that, you will have to have someone very tech-savvy who knows PC's, especially MSI Laptops because you literally have to disconnect quite a bit to replace the keyboard & panel, including the monitor. In the process, you also have to hope that everything goes back together perfectly, so it opens/closes and functions correctly... and you don't accidentally break something in the process because the motherboard is so flimsy and literally directly connected to every component. It's one giant piece that barely fits in the laptop case, in fact, you have to pull the sides apart slightly to get it out and ack in. I think the reason I saw these great reviews is because 90% of people that review a product, do it right after they open and use it a little bit. Not 9 months later, after using it for a significant amount of time, and getting an actually real idea of how it functions over a short span of time. So be sure you know what you're getting into before purchasing an MSI Laptop. Let's put it this way... I loved it when I opened it and started using it... but a year later, if I could go back to the day I bought this PC, I would have probably gone Alienware or some other brand! Sorry, Just want to be honest.
