Crashed after 3 months of light use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked well at first, but started to run funny at times - would turn off if picked up a certain way. Only happened twice. But then it just blacked out as if the battery had died; it didn't, it would have gone into shut-down first. Plugged it in and tried to turn it back on, but it wouldn't. Its essentially a brick now. Can't return to bestbuy after 15 days (seems short for return of defective items, not just reconsideration?). So I am talking to MSI, or would if their website wasn't down for maintenance. Regardless of how MSI handles this, it is unacceptable for the computer to fail completely after 3 months.

Good Balance between Performance and Size
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall great gaming laptop. It's a very powerful and lightweight laptop, and it takes care of my CAD and Gaming needs perfectly, with high FPS counts and almost no lagginess. Few cons would be the display (It's honestly not great at all, you tilt your head slightly upward and all of a sudden colors start to wash out) and the amount of bloatware pre installed that lags your system (You can still uninstall these, but this is a pain). Battery is also not great, but Nvidia Optimus Technology helps a lot (Switches between Intel HD and Geforce to save battery).

If purchasing, purchase hardware insurance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this computer for college thinking it would last me all four years, I am disappointed to say it only lasted a month. The whole left side of the computer stopped functioning by the end of the warranty therefore I could not return it to the store or ask for a new one. I had to ship it to MSI to see if they could fix it. Spare yourself the headache and purchase another computer.

Great Gaming Laptop, Excellent Portability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first "gaming" laptop. I travel a lot for work and wanted something that allowed me to game in my down time without lugging around an Xbox. This machine fits the bill. Pick up a mouse and a headset and you're good to go. When I'm home, I hook this bad boy up to my 32" monitor and you would think I had a full gaming rig desktop below my desk. It does get a little loud when the cooling fans are running high, but that's not a big deal for me as they are very effective in maintaining a reasonable CPU/GPU temperature. I mainly play Fortnite and PUBG, and this thing runs both on max settings flawlessly, although i never have all of my settings turned up that high when gaming (just saying, it CAN do it). Runs PUBG perfectly at 60FPS and 90FPS, and Fortnite is cake as this thing runs it at 120FPS no problem. The only thing I cant comment on is the durability. I've only traveled with this computer once, and I took extra-super-awesome-good-care of it. I also had another laptop in my backpack but have since switched over to this one for both play and work, so I'll only be taking this one with me from now on. We will see how it holds up after 10-12 flights in my backpack. Overall good buy, worth the money. Chews up and spits out just about any game you could throw at it. Some people complain about the screen to the point where they have returned it because of that. No way. Screen is not bad at all. Its not the greatest screen, but it certainly gets the job done. I never have any trouble seeing anything on the screen. If youre thinking of buying this, do it. You wont be disappointed.

An awesome College Laptop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A slim and lightweight laptop with a powerful processor and gpu with a competing price tag. I was hunting for a gaming laptop that I could take to college as well as game on during my free time. Thin laptops with the same config as this were much more expensive. Also some sported a U processor which would not do well in the long run. A right mix of performance and price. I would have loved to seen an IPS screen on it though. Though I like the design I felt however they could have blended the logo a little more. The keys are pretty much fine. Getting used to the track-pad (not my all time favorite).

Great hardware, mismatched screen
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The hardware on this laptop is very great. The issue I had with the laptop is the display. It's listed as an IPS panel, which it does not seem to be. The viewing angels were very poor and the color accuracy was only spot on if the screen was eye level and straight on. Any other angle made it difficult to read anything on the screen.

Good laptop for gaming but..
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would have had better ratings if I didn't had to change CPU cooling fans every 4 or 6 months... Its gotten to the point where I cannot recommend this computer. Other than that issue that makes me tear the computer apart to switch this part, this is a good machine, but too sensitive for me.

Not a happy camper
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd like to say this was a good product, but unfortunately, 3 weeks in, it's at best buy , hoping it can get repaired locally, without sending back to factory for an audio jack issue. After spending this much, not exactly what we wanted to happen, especially in my son's first week of college...avoid it like the plague

Computer froze.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the laptop. Turned it on. Did the basic registration. Plugged in a thumb drive to open up its files. Computer froze when I tried to safely eject scan disk from computer. Tried holding CTRL & ALT + DEL to open up Task Manager and the computer wouldn't respond. Had to Shut it down by holding the power button.

Not the $1500+ Laptop you are looking for
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Worked amazing for the first year, before it hit the two year mark started making a noise like a dying squirrel. Bestbuy could repair it under the Geek Squad protection (worth the $325) so they gave me a gift card for the purchase price minus the GSP. Not reliable at all!

This is an amazing laptop!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So i recently bought this laptop since I am now heading off to college and I really needed something to game on and work on while I was away. I saw this laptop and thought it was the perfect one! Even though it is a gaming laptop it is still incredibly thin and small but still powerful since it packs a 1060 in it. However, even though it is small and light weight it isn't perfect. The battery life is below average. It lasts around 4 hours surfing the web on the battery saver mode so you might need to be plugged in much more often than you'd like but it really isn't that bad. Everywhere I go that I use it there is always a place for me to plug it in. Another thing about this laptop is that it does get pretty hot even when you don't put it under heavy loads. Using it to browse the webs gets the laptop running pretty warm. Overall though this laptop is perfect for me and it really meets my needs. Besides from that I also really love the keyboard on this laptop!

Great PC for anything you want to do
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I went into Best Buy to purchase a new laptop because the ASUS I had purchased 1 year and 4 months earlier had fried. I use my laptop everyday for work, mainly surfing the web and sending emails, but I needed something that could handle the constant multi-tasking I do. Also I like to do a little gaming. I purchased this laptop and I am glad I did. Keyboard feels and looks great, screen color is top notch, and I have now been able to get games I was not able to play on my PC before. Only thing I will say negative about it is that it runs hot when you play a game but other than that a great PC and I would highly recommend it to anyone. 5/5 stars for me!

Incredible laptop with a poor screen
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After owning an MSI GS63VR, and working with the various models they offer, I have mixed feelings about this particular model (252). PROS: -7th Generation i7 is powerful and smooth -Solid build quality -Thin and lightweight design -Lightning fast performance after bloatware is disabled -GTX 1060 powerful enough for graphic intensive games -16 GB RAM DDR4 -Solid State and Hard Drive CONS: -The screen on the "252" model is very low quality compared to the "228", "229" and "230" models. The viewing angles are poor and the colors are washed out. -The solid state drive is SATA instead of the NVme drives on the "228", "229", and "230" models. Although fast, this means 1/3 the read/write speeds, noticeable to those working heavily with audio/video. -Bloatware makes it slow at first, must delete unnecessary apps for optimal performance. -Battery life is lacking. The screen on the "252" was difficult to look at for extended periods. If you're going to be using an external monitor often, this may not be an issue, but if you'll only be using the built in screen be sure to try it out at the store. Best Buy also sells similar models but with better screens and faster solid state drives for a bit more money. Overall, all of the GS63VR models offer great performance, but be aware of the differences in screens and solid state drives.

Pricey but worth it....beautiful
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been building desktops for years and never really had a need for a high performance laptop and I also have an issue with the concept of something that gets outdated as fast as a laptop because there are limited possibilities to upgrade important systems (such as the processor and graphics cards). Recently I've been doing a lot of traveling so I took the plunge and brought this bad boy home. MSI gaming laptops get very good reviews overall, I had not seen the reviews on this particular unit before I bought it but after only a few days use I'd say this is another winner for them. By current 2017 standards this machine should run any currently released game pretty well (I play black desert online in high graphics mode) and the thunderbolt 3 interface adds a whole bunch of options for extra displays etc. The multiple USB 3 ports are great (and are backwards compatible with usb 2 devices). One of the things that attracted me the most to this machine is the "excellent" built in steel series keyboard. No other laptop that I've seen lately has such a nice feeling keyboard and the color changing keys is just an added bling bling. The keyboard also apparently can do macros but I haven't had a chance to play with that yet. The thin metal case just screams "firari" at you when you first see it and pick it up. For all the power in this machine it is surprisingly light. The keyboard is excellent the screen is better, I just can't find many bad things to say here. As always when you get a new computer you can count on many hours of upgrades both to the machine and windows, then of course you get to download your games and other stuff (does anything even come on a dvd anymore??). The machine comes standard with 16 gig installed, the guy that sold me the machine said he didn't think it could take anymore ram and they don't say anything about the issue in the book but from what I have read and seen the motherboard does have a second ram slot it is just not a simple matter to get to it. The ram slots are under the keyboard and the only way to get to them is to remove the bottom/back of the laptop and take out the motherboard. Anyone used to building machines and changing out laptop keypads etc. should not be too afraid of this but as these are high performance 16 gig ddr4 chips they are still a little on the expensive side (and a person concerned with best performance may want to have a pair of the same chip). I don't currently need the upgrade but when the RAM chips come down in price I may just go ahead and get one and install it as more RAM is never a bad thing. This machine has several cooling fans for the cpu and the gpu as well, no matter what you do..heat will always be one of the limiting factors for a high performance laptop just because it's so hard to deal with so much heat in the small space of a laptop case, those stands with the extra fans do seem to help but you can still expect a lot of heat on the bottom of the machine. The MSI tools include a temperature monitor and the ability to adjust your fan speeds etc. At full blast the fan noise is noticeable but it doesn't bother me at all as I use a headset for voice chat etc. You want your components cool, screw the noise. If you've never heard of USB C that's a sort of new thing, the google nexus 5x and some of the newer google phones use USB C, the main advantages are usb 3 communication speed and the socket/cable is not keyed you can plug it in any direction no issues. The C bus can also provide more than 5v of power over the cable and is also backwards compatible to other usb varieties with adapters etc. This is a very expensive laptop but the top end specs should mean it will last longer than a machine with lower specs going into the future. This model has two sata plugs for a hard drive and a small ssd to make windows load much faster, etc. From what I have seen so far you cannot access the contents of this smaller ssd by default (MSI probably did that for a reason). In theory you could pull out that small ssd and install a larger ssd or another old school spinner drive. Upon login you use the MSI set password not the windows password that is usually set when you log into another windows machine--personally I'd appreciate it if they'd give me the choice so it's a bit easier to remember the password. Yes, this was a heckuva lot of money but you'll spend as much on an apple book with probably lower specs than this one or an ipad with all the bells and whistles. You will be glad you made this purchase rather than dealing with a lower spec machine that cost less. it's sort of amusing that in the past games were written with the ability to run on lesser hardware because gamers tended to be poor, these days that trend seems to have totally reversed!

Greatest laptop I've ever had
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.About a year ago I bought one of these laptops, and at first was kinda skeptical about spending this much money on a laptop. I had just gotten through an ASUS 2 in 1 that just kept breaking and decided it was time to upgrade. At the time I was doing a lot of video editing and wanted to do more gaming. Both of which my ASUS struggled to handle. So I bit the bullet and told myself I'm getting a nice powerful laptop, but it has to be small so I can easily transport it for school. I came across this one, the GS63VR. Once I got it the very first thing you notice is the build quality, and then when you turn it on you get a beautiful keyboard. Probably my favorite thing about this computer is the customizable keyboard lighting. Setting up the computer wasn't too difficult, however there was some unnecessary software that I ended up getting rid of (specifically the killer wifi suite, which just slows down games). Once I had done that the device ran games like ARMA 3, Hearts of Iron 4 and many others near flawlessly! It's an incredibly fast startup, has many plugs, a beautiful screen and keyboard, and many other great features. I ended up doing a decent bit of video editing and this thing takes it and has no problem in any of its default modes. One of the smaller downsides though, is that when this device is set in performance mode, the fans get quite loud. However I'm fairly ok with it, as it is a powerful laptop in a very slim package. The size of it also makes for a great school computer that can double for any of your more intensive stuff on the side. My computer fits nicely in my backpack, and gets all the looks when my rainbow keyboard is up. (I've actually had to put a keyboard setting for when I'm in classes, as it's so distracting to other students). To wrap this up, it's a fantastic little machine and while expensive is well worth the buy. It can handle almost anything you want it to do in a portable package.

Everything I expected it to be!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the last 6 months are so I was planning on building a PC, but the more I thought about it, the more I started to realize that, because of my kids and their wild friends and sleepovers and such, having a thousand dollar piece of equipment sitting stationary just wasn’t going to work. I definitely needed something more mobile that I can store away and take out when I need to use the computer. So began my journey to try and find a laptop that could play games smoothly while being portable enough to take with me, store away, etc. Everything I read about gaming laptops was about how bulky and heavy they were. Then I brought my son into Best Buy one Saturday afternoon to get a few Xbox games, so I decided to go check out the gaming laptops. As soon as I laid my eyes and fingers on the Stealth Pro, I was hooked. It was not bulky, it had a 1060 GPU. The screen looked great! So I had to take it home that day! First thing I did was update Windows and delete all the bloatware, specifically Norton. Next I signed up for Steam and downloaded PUBG and GTA5. Both titles played flawlessly. The graphics were way more amazing than those on my son’s Xbox. The fans are quiet. Only time I actually heard them was while playing GTA, and even then I had to pause the game and listen closely to hear them. My only complaint if I had to choose one is the volume is maxed out and still sounds low. But it was loud enough to where my wife in the next room asked me why I didn’t get a headset yet. That’ll be my next purchase so the speakers won’t be used at all for gaming. But overall I have nothing but great things to say about this laptop and I can’t wait to dig deeper to see what else it can do.
