Poor thermal design. Overheats and throttles.

Go for the MSI. This one cant handle the heat and eventually throttles to an unusable state. Lots of other random crashes, which is a shame - as it's a nice looking and feeling laptop save for the questionable gamer aesthetic. Avoid this one. Returned mine - Best Buy was super great through it all.

It’s a really nice laptop, and can play games well. But my unit was defective, it kept losing connection to WiFi when I played games; it would lose connection within the first few minutes of whatever I was doing. I exchanged this for the 15inch Razer with the same specs.

    Great work/gaming mix

Bought this laptop to handle work and gaming when I wanted. Battery life is excellent, screen is buttery smooth, and comes with 3 months warranty out the box. It can get a little loud when running intensive games, but a cooling pad helped bring temps and fan noise down quite a bit. When surfing the web the laptop stays quiet and cool. I was looking at the Razer 15 before purchasing this, but it was too expensive and did not have the bang for buck that MSI has. The Razer does have a better build quality, but the MSI still feels solid. I got double the storage and the same specs as a Razer for $300-$500 less. As a college student using the laptop mainly for productivity and sometimes for gaming it can do both very well. Definitely recommend this laptop!

It couldn't handle VR. The title says RTX 2070, beware it's a RTX 2070 Max-Q. This laptop is constantly running with a really loud fan, i believe it has 3 fans, it's never quiet even on "silent" mode.

First of all, I must say this is probably one of the most beautifully designed laptops I've owned. The all-black design along with the sleekness of a regular laptop make this a professional-looking laptop that doesn't look tacky like the traditional gaming laptop. The screen looks sublime and smooth which makes it visually appealing to look at. Games run perfectly at high settings and make it perfect for gaming on-the-go. The major flaw from this machine are the cacophonous fans that it produces when running games on high settings. Of course, one can tweak the settings down a notch or two, however, it is noticeably unpleasant sometimes when gaming. It also gets a bit warm as you play longer however, that is something to expect from a gaming laptop. Overall, the value of the specs along with the imposing design, I would say this is a fantastic machine for those who want to have a portable gaming experience.

A quick disclaimer before you read too far into this: the only gaming laptop I had owned before the GS66 was a beefy Alienware that is currently almost 7 years old, so my opinions are probably a bit dated in terms of my understanding of what gaming laptops are capable of now. That being said, I have to admit I was skeptical of this purchase before I finally decided to bite the bullet and throw down $1,900 for a laptop. I knew very little about MSI prior to the search for a solid gaming machine that could still handle school and work without standing out like a sore thumb. However, this thing has blown me away! I'm a few weeks into owning the GS66 at the time of this review and I've been able to put it under some pretty heavy loads during that period of time. The laptop has performed perfectly, and I have no complaints concerning the build quality or capabilities of this machine. Some potential cons (and if you've read any other reviews then this won't come as a surprise): the laptop does get hot. I noticed my CPU running upwards of 92-93 degrees under load, but flipping on Cooler Boost solved that issue pretty quickly. On that same note, the fans in this thing are LOUD. Of course, if you don't mind F-16's flying around in your lap while you game, this isn't a big deal; but you'll definitely want to put the computer in either silent or balanced modes if you plan to use it in the office, at school, and so on. Also, if you happen to be one of those people who thinks backlight bleed is a big deal, I have a little bit on the bottom corners of the screen; but really, who cares? I can't speak to the durability or longevity of the computer or its internal components for obvious reasons, but I'm confident that I'll be enjoying this thing for years. If you're on the fence about the GS66 or are considering a similar alternative, my experience so far tells me that MSI is the way to go!

As close to perfection in a laptop as possible

If you're to purchase a laptop with the intent of using it for ANYTHING, whether it be gaming, editing, music production, or even just writing on a word document, this is the laptop for you. Like an all-in-one package, this laptop--although not the highest spec model you can buy--can run even the most hardware-intensive games on their highest settings with no noticeable loss in frame rate. Never again will you have to use the words: "I can't play ____ because my computer can't run it." If it's a game, you can run it. Not to mention VR, which this computer excels at. I was using a Quest with Oculus Link via the default cable that shipped in the box. No loss in quality or frame rate in the slightest bit. This machine is a beast, an all-in-one computer capable of handling the heaviest load and the tiniest ones all at once. One major flaw, however, would be the temperature. This computer, when idle or performing light tasks, typically runs around 50-60 degrees Celsius. When gaming, especially heavily graphics-intensive games, I have not seen the temperatures dip below 80 degrees. Most of the time. it sits right at an uncomfortable 95 degrees, which I've been told is the absolute limit of how hot a computer should get before it begins to deteriorate over time and extended use. I've only had this laptop for a few months and have seen no sign of deterioration yet, but at this rate, I wouldn't be surprised at a loss of overall quality a few years down the line. However, this flaw makes sense because of the sheer power it packs into such a tiny frame. The laptop is incredibly THIN, giving it a sleek, modern look as opposed to a tech-y, gamer feel. It's why it's called the "stealth". Although it does get hot, the use of a cooling pad and use in room-temperature areas can bring down the temperatures significantly. It's highly reccomended. Other than the heat, this laptop is what I would consider perfect. An absolutely flawless machine would be this product, but with temperatures that barely ever exceed 70 degrees. However, as technology has a long way to go, that isn't exactly possible. With current limitations, this laptop is as perfect as money can physically buy. I am extremely happy with it, and would absolutely recommend it to anybody looking for something to game on, or whatever else it is you'll be doing. 5 Stars.

A quality machine with quality components makes the GS66 Stealth an amazing buy for those who want portability with their gaming sessions. The GS66 has a great solid structure with a sturdy screen hinge with a nice glass track pad though it does pick up a lot of fingerprints. It does get quite hot when running games with heavier loads but can be remedied with a max fan speed option. Though using the laptop with the max fan speed does cool the laptop to a comfortable temperature, it gets LOUD. If you can get past the high temperatures and loud fans this laptop is a really great buy. Maybe even the best buy.

This laptop feels really solid. Well made and the specs are really good too. The SSD is very fast and my games load quickly. Had no trouble setting it up out of the box. The fans don't get too loud yet the laptop is still running the games at full speed (hopefully it'll still be the same in the summer). I love this laptop, definitely a good splurge.

Great Gaming Laptop for the Price

I picked this up yesterday to replace my 5 year old gaming laptop. After playing a few games, I am completely blown away by the refresh rate and the capabilities of this machine. I started with Sea of Thieves, not a real breaker, but the water is beautiful on this machine. The next game was Space Engineers with the highest settings, planets, and the largest base the game offers. I've never seen grass in the game... that's a thing. The computer chugged a little at first, but caught right up. I'm also really surprised at the battery. I was able to play a few hours today with my kid on Sea of Thieves... again, max settings, on battery. Very impressive. The only real downside that I've noticed is the placement of the vents. The heat blows right where a gamer would keep their mouse. But my last laptop did this too. Must be a common layout thing. Not a deal breaker, but a little annoying. However, those fans sure are quiet! You aren't going to find a better machine for the price. I know, I spent several weeks looking at all the sites and stores. This is the one!

This laptop is surprising in weight, performance, build-quality, and overall productivity. It may be a gaming laptop, however it is a beautifully built piece of machinery. I definitely recommend this laptop for any hard-core gamer or simply for someone who wants crazy refresh rates for YouTube.

Msi has been a company that has not failed to deliver powerful and streamlined hardware for any computer build. My first build was entirely msi for a desktop pc, with a 1070 GTX titanium graphics card and an i5 8th generation processor. It has served me well for the last two years, delivering optimum performance in all games I've played. The system is already overkill for modern games, and when i decided to try this laptop, it further settled my preference and bias in favor of MSI. From the smooth and tame body of the computer, to the glowing keys and silent whirring fans, this system has really impressed me. The clarity and refresh rate of the screen has me blown away, not to mention the performance capability of system on any game i play. What's more, the system serves great for graphic design and college course work, which i will be using its 1tb ssd storage for. If you want a top of the line laptop that can handle anything, then I would strongly recommend getting the GS66 Stealth Series.

I got this as a graduation present to replace my 8 year old ASUS ROG laptop, and I could not be happier. From someone who played games on lowest settings at best 40 fps, this computer is overkill. Now I can play games with the best settings between 60 and 100 fps. And with the 240 Hz screen, if I drop the quality of the games, the computer can easily match the refresh rate of the screen. It is also very light and has good battery life, which is important to me as a college student. The per key RGB lighting is also very fun to play around with. The laptop does not run too hot, and if it does reach around 90 degrees Celsius, there is a mode on the fan called Cooler Boost which cooled the computer down to 80 Celsius, which is much better. At 80 Celsius, the heat under the keys is not noticeable which is perfect for long gaming sessions. Overall this is a great computer and one amazing upgrade from my old PC!

Looked into buying a new laptop after my old MSI decided to die. Pros: Looks REALLY nice compared to their older models The screen is so, so fast, and it's incredibly obvious, even to an untrained eye. SO much storage, I had storage problems with my last one but this one seems to be fine on storage. Games run very smoothly. I was able to run Overwatch on the highest settings with no problems. Cons: A little on the heavy side, but nothing unreasonable. The fan is REALLY, REALLY LOUD. Like, open chrome and it whirs loud. The computer don't be getting hot though so you win some, you lose some Overall, very happy. Feels very good.
