    The Perfect Laptop Doesn't Exis........

So I waited out to give my review because I wanted to run and test everything with this laptop, and so far boy does it exceed my expectations! I come from a GS60 MSI Laptop and it's still holding solid after 6 years! but I thought I had to upgrade it due to today's more demanding software, gaming and the battery life wasn't holding for more than an hour. This configuration was perfect! I am glad I waited out until Best buy released their own version of the machine! 1800$ for this is a steal! I would rather have 16gb of RAM and 1TB for that price with the RTX 2070 than 32gb of RAM that i'll never use and only 512gb of storage for 2300$! In my opinion the 300hz was pointless as well because we would never reach it with the rtx2070 on recent games and wouldn't really be able to tell the difference so 240hz was more than enough! The built is also solid, they discarded the cheap plastic feel for a solid metal build, the laptop feels a bit heavier but it is expected for the massive battery they placed in it. Speaking of which the battery gives you a solid 5hrs for daily browsing, watching videos and music which is really rare in gaming laptops of this caliber. When it comes to the fan and heat, all this talk about it being too loud is just because they haven't even tried to play with the options in the dragon center MSI app, the laptop runs quietly without a noise if you set it to silent to just browse and watching a video. The heat and noise are unavoidable if you're going to game, DUH! Especially if you gonna do it in high settings to enjoy it! Just buy a cooling mat to place in your lap or desk they're like 20$. What else.... the Keyboard feels so nice to type on, though I am gonna miss my numerical Keypad but it makes the laptop also more compact to place on a desk if you have lot of stuff around. The mouse pad is definitely bigger and great for gaming but not so much for daily typing and browsing as your palm might rest on it an mess up what you're doing. The ports are all there and I so much appreciate the thunderbolt port which can be useful for .... well everything! However I'm kinda sad they discarded the SD slot, I am one of the few people who still use it for file transfer from phone to laptop instead of using a USB port. Welp conclusion, you guessed it, IT'S A YES FOR ME! I will keep this review updated as I play and use it in the future to let y'all know if, knock on wood, crashes or something unexpected might happen that would be a big con. Hope that helped with your decision!

I bought this computer about a month ago, with it serving as my PC for long term use through college (4 years). I wanted a computer that would allow me to upgrade memory and storage to increase productivity and performance down the line, and for the price, this computer is an absolute beast. Many people say they have issues with how loud the fans ramp up, but if you're using headphones it won't be an issue, and the fans do a great job at maintaining good thermals even when overclocking the gpu. The included RTX 2070 Max-Q is a fantastic chip, being able to run AAA titles at 60+ frames with ease. The only game I frequently play is Rainbow Six Siege, and I average 160 fps with peaks over 200 fps on max graphics settings. The blistering fast 240Hz panel is amazing and looks great in games, movies, and word processing applications. I absolutely love this display because it is extremely snappy and clear. The ultra wide track pad is great, and offers a large space for any combination of swipes and clicks you'll ever need to perform. The keyboard is nice, and offers a fair amount of key travel, although it does feel a bit mushy. If the rgb software is what you are after, I can 100% not recommend this PC. SteelSeries Engine 3 runs macros, custom key binds, and rgb for the keyboard, and it is by far one of the worst designed and performing programs I have ever used. It consistently crashes, malfunctions, or gets stuck on a setting and requires a reboot. If you are easily annoyed by software that continuously fails to perform, then this is not the computer for you. As far as build quality goes, it feels like a very solid machine. The palm rest is very smooth and comfortable, the keyboard is nice, as is the track pad. The actual chassis feels nice, however it is not a unibody chassis. The folded metal design leaves a lot to be desired, and exposed corners make for some sharp edges and some really shoddy build quality. The speakers are not great, and even with the included Nahimic app, you'd be better off just using some nice headphones. Nowadays with Zoom University being on the up and up, camera and mic setups are very important. I haven't listened to the mic, but I've been told my voice comes through very clear. The camera sucks, but honestly most laptop webcams aren't very great, and in this case the small bezels make it almost worth it. Overall the computer is a great value and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something for productivity that can also serve as their gaming system.

I really like this computer. I have a few complaints, but overall I'm extremely happy with it. I upgraded to this from a 17" Lenovo Y70. Pros: 1. The cost for what you get can't be beat. I researched this endlessly and other laptops for the price just didn't compare. It boots up extremely quickly, can run anything I throw at it, and it looks great. 2. The quality is great. I was afraid the computer would be too plastic feeling and I would be able to notice why it was cheap, but that's not the case at all. It feels sturdy without being too heavy. Nothing rattles, and when it's closed it feels solid. The cover is a little bad about finger prints, but it's just a good reminder to wipe it off every few days. 3. The screen is not high gloss which I wasn't sure about, but it's great for avoiding glares, and I haven't had any issues with the colours. 4. I love the feel of the keyboard. It's my favourite part of the laptop. Typing on this laptop is an absolute dream. I was worried about the size of the arrows and the placement of the CTRL and FN keys, but it hasn't been a problem at all. The mousepad is also great, and the added size is really nice. 5. The battery life is unbelievable. When not playing games I just keep the laptop unplugged all day. I had some issues the first day I got it with the battery only charging to 94% and having a short battery life, but it went away after the first night of charging. 6. The ports are great. Perfect combination of what I need. The power cable port placement is a little strange, but it hasn't been annoying. Cons: 1. The speakers are abysmal. They don't get very loud and the sound is really shallow. I'm not a huge audio enthusiast, but it's to the point where I notice it every time I watch something. It's created problems with my work as the speakers echo a lot in conference applications. 2. The camera leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously not the point of this laptop, but the quality is not good and it doesn't handle light well. This is a bigger deal with working from home and having so many conference calls. 3. It heats up extremely fast. I haven't seen this impact the performance in the least bit, but it does get hot enough that it will burn your skin. In the same token, the fans run loudly almost constantly. I currently only have Chrome open with 10 text tabs and the fan is running pretty loudly. 4. A minor complain, but I really wish they had made room for a number pad to the side of the keyboard. It looked like they had about 1-2" to play with and the PGUP/PGDN, HOME, and END buttons could have gone elsewhere.

    Probably The Best Constructed Laptop

I recommend this laptop. Amazing piece of kit for all your gaming and workstation/content creative needs. it’s handled literally everything I’ve thrown at it including 4K 60FPS gaming on some tittles when connected to my TV. It has a plethora of ports; everything you want and need is at the ready. All tasks and multitasking are handled seamlessly without any hit to performance. It’s fast! MSi’s dragon center interface makes configuration really easy for people who are new to PC gaming. The RGB backlit keyboard is lovely to use and configure as each key is configurable individually to create your own lighting effects. Typing feels great too with decent travel on the keys with the lighting making visibility a none issue both in the day time and at night. Battery life is also great, the battery really handles things nicely if you need to disconnect from the mains. I was pleasantly surprised I didn’t have to go through uninstalling too much nonsense. The display is beautiful! That 240hz panel makes all actions buttery smooth and the true color app has great presets for gaming, office work, watching movies etc so you’ll always be visually comfortable no matter what. The color gamut is great. Cons: I can’t say anything bad about the laptop at all to be honest. It’s exactly what it says on the tine. No qualms here with the machine. The speakers could be better as laptop speakers tend to be mediocre at best. But they are decent enough.

    Best Bang for your Buck

Just like the title states.. best bang for your buck... hands down. Ive had this laptop since July 24th so just at 6 weeks now.. give or take a few days. And the overall performance of this system is excellent at stock hardware and settings. Meaning that if you really want to push this system as far as it can go you would need to upgrade the stock 16gb of RAM (samsung btw) to 64GB of Corsair Vengance or some HyperX or G-Skills... Also you could buy another Western Digital NVMe PCIE M.2 SSD 1TB and configure it in a Raid config to possibly push it further but mistake me if im wrong when i say that RAID configs are a thing of the past when it comes to a system that DOES NOT SUPPORT SATA and only uses NVMe PCIe M.2 SSDs for storage. Its fast enough if you ask me. And the display this thing has with 240hz refresh rate... come on bro.. pair that with tis RTX 2070 Max-Q and basically everything about this is HD quality and out performs most in this category. Now i haven't really paid much attention to the newer networking speeds in a while but if you have a decent connection at home or even business class internet you will definatly notice the speed on this with the new wifi6 by Killer Networking.. hers an example Call Of Duty WarZone is around 210GB download. My previous system would download at around maxxed out at 15MBs connected to my 5Ghz Band on the Netgear nighthawk on comcast business line but this baby was downloading at 30-50Mbs on upwards of 90Mbs .. much faster Now heres what some of you may be waiting to hear about.. FPS!! how much? what game? Ok.. so im a gamer from the original Quake 3 days and eventually CounterStrike 1.6.. Source.. and CSGO.. and the Call of Duty franchise as well as the newer Tom Clancy Titles.. DOOM Eternal (2020) settings: ULTRA NIGHTMARE FPS MAX: 350-400 FPS Average: 150-180 Call of Duty WARZONE/Modern Warfare (2020) settings: HIGH FPS MAX: 250-275 FPS Average: 100-150 *fps averages and max for CoD multiplayer as well** Now with all of that out of the way here goes the stuff i personally dont like about this laptop.. but not a manufactors flaw.. just personal dislikes really So as we all know, when you buy a new laptop and get home and power it up.. one of the first things you'll usually notice from the manufacturer is all the bloatware that's preinstalled. But this dosen't really have a lot of that like other companies we all know..i wont say any names but it rhymes with HP. But you will notice an app called MSI App player.. its basically an emulater that allows you to run any app thats found in the google play store on this machine. Now i dont know about you guys but when i pay $1900 for a gaming laptop (yes i paid full price) the last thing im worried about is wether or not it can play freaking candycrush or whatever app that may be so important to someone to have it installed on every device including the 2020 MSI GS66 Stealth Gaming Laptop.. really MSI .. you couldnt have made that an optional piece of software because i can care less about it personally. But congrats on your newest app development..lol Also.. RGB lighting is personally a useless need on anyones laptop muchless this one.. at this point its just a wow factor. for the people who buy this that dont even know who Nvidia and MSI and SteelSeries is .. you know the ones... they are the people who are dying to show you what the keyboard can do when your curious about what games it can crunch... And the black color makes your finger prints pop out .. i mean this thing will shine from the oils on your skin being transferred.. so i keep a terry cloth close by because you will be constantly wiping it down if your like me and care about your stuff. Bottom Line is this .. Its a FPS Beast and so far theres not much i havent seen this thing do and perform top notch in all tasks.. once again this is the BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK and its like what $1500 now.. Im not regretting anything about this purchase. Your getting basically all the best hardware you can get crammed into a beautiful machine that really isnt too heavy at all and nice and thin to boot. Buy it... youll love it.

Great Computer for the Requested Price

I want to start off by saying I am by no means an expert on laptops. I am a career changer that wants to get involved in computer science, mainly deep machine learning. After doing research for what I would need from a laptop I made the choice to buy this laptop. I have yet to really test out its performance but have not had any performance issues thus far. Compared to other laptops, it provides great specs for a reasonable price. I also love the build of the laptop and how easy it use the keyboard. The only cons I can think of right now is the track pad. I have had issues where I am scrolling on a webpage and the next thing I know I find myself looking at all the applications I have open. Not a huge issue, just have to get used to the pad, however it does get annoying after it happens multiple times. The other con is that the laptop is a fingerprint magnet!! I am a neat freak when it comes to taking care of my laptop. I almost returned the laptop for this reason. However, it is hard to find another laptop with these specs and same price. So I have had to just deal with it. Furthermore, this laptop is super sensitive to scratches. I had laid a spiral notebook on top the laptop, it must have moved a little because when I lifted the notebook there were tiny scratches on the top of the laptop. Currently, I am trying to find a cover or decal for the laptop. Also, this laptop does have a loud fan. I have to do telehealth sessions to provide services for my clients and have found that the fans running in the background were loud. This ties in with heating issues. The very first day I used the laptop I was close to returning it because the bottom of the laptop got real hot, this was definitely not a good start. I know that many other reviews have mentioned this before. However, this was the only time it got that heated. Over all this laptop is great for the price you pay. The Razer would charge you a few hundred more for the same specs. If you are comfortable with it being prone to scratches and fingerprints, I would recommend you buy this laptop. Hopefully, MSI can come up with decals or covers to better protect their laptops.

    MSI G66 Screen Issues

We purchased the MSI GS66 in October 2020 and the laptop started having heating problems right away. We had to purchase a laptop chiller to keep it from over heating (MSI says this is common with gaming laptops). Then the we started having keyboard problem just after the one year warranty ran out. In March 2022 the screen started acting up and now (April 2022) it flickers and goes black. If you going to purchase this laptop get the extended 3 year warranty because your going to need it.

So I decided to upgrade to this laptop from my 2016 Razer Blade. Overall, this computer is the best deal for the price range that I was able to find. Here a few pros and cons as far as the computer goes and then a few issues I've had: Pros: Great performance, amazing screen, great price, the edges are rounded and easy to rest your arms on, great build quality but the hinge is not as firm as a Razer Blade, cooling as (imo) much better than a Blade, big trackpad, amazing soundcard, and screen brightness is great. Cons: Keyboard is more spongy than I would like, speakers are absolutely horrible (they sound very tinny), the power port gets in the way a lot (as it's placed in the left center), it's incredibly difficult to take out the back panel, and the fans sound like a jet engine when turned up (they're very obtrusive). Issues I've had with the computer: 1st, the spacebar key, and number 4 key both came poorly placed, so I had to take out the keys and fix the metal pins which attach to the keys from the frame. This is something I should not have had to do. 2nd, I've been having wifi issues where my connection will cut out every so often. From what I understand, it's a software issue with Windows 10, so I wouldn't say this is MSI's fault. Overall: Great computer with a few issues, but definitely worth it. It's especially worth it if you don't have any quality control issues as I've had.

    Great so far...returned GS65

So...I bought the GS65 w/1660ti at a great price from Best Buy at the end of April just before this was released. Once I saw the GS66 hit Best Buy I decided it may be worth the upgrade since I was still in the return period for the GS65. I was very happy with the GS65s performance for what I use it for. I also liked how compact it is. However, the GS66 had four things that made me willing to try it, even though it was a bit more expensive. The 3Tb HD, the RTX 2070 graphics card, the thunderbolt/USB-C charge capability, and the huge battery were all important to me (the RTX was the lowest priority though). The only concern I really had was whether the 66 was going to be significantly bigger and louder. When comparing the two computers side by side, the GS66 actually sits a bit lower on the table possibly due to the cooling feet being a bit shorter. The length and width difference between the two laptops was also imperceptible. You can definitely feel the weight difference between the two, but that was a good thing as the GS66 seems significantly more sturdy then the GS65 and all of the flex areas on the 65 seem to have been fixed with the 66. Performance wise, I would say that playing Far Cry 5 I really don’t see a difference. Noise wise, both laptop’s fans can get a bit loud, but I would like to see any brands compact laptop not have fan noise when pushing high graphics settings on a modern game. The noise difference between the two was similar, although the tone of the fans was different. The only two downsides to the GS66 that I see is that it gets pretty hot under load and that the matte black is an absolute fingerprint magnet (as was the GS65). In the end I did keep the GS66 and returned the GS65 (still in brand new condition for a lucky Geek Squad purchaser). The 65 was an outstanding value, but the HD, battery, and the USB-C charging were what convinced me to keep the GS66.

The build of this computer is perfect for a solid price. I researched for a month or so and picked this computer and 100% made the right choice. The only common complaint I found was noisy fans, I will confirm they can get loud only while gaming but as a result the computer always stays cool. My headset is usually on so I don't hear them anyways, and others in voicechat don't hear it either. The 240hz screen is butter and my favorite. The 1TB SSD was my other big selling point. Then of course the performance is high quality. So far I've played Warzone, Borderlands 3, Sea of Thieves and League of Legends all with no issues and high settings. Very happy with purchase.

The Good: I purchased this laptop to be used for graphic design and gaming. From a hardware perspective, it accomplished both well. Using adobe products my workflow was super fast and smooth. The computer started up fast, opened programs quickly, and had no problems multitasking with several programs open at once. From a gaming perspective, it ran Control on high settings without any noticeable lag. It is truly a beast. Built quality felt nice with a sturdy metal chassis. Keyboard felt nice and the 240hz screen is AMAZING. What it lacks for in resolution it far makes up for in smoothness. Even typing looked cool. The bad: unfortunately the computer is plagued by software issues. After an update, MSI's dragon center stopped working. This is important for changing your fan settings based on what you are doing. Which is impotant because without it, they SCREAM during moderate use. After a reinstall, the program failed to read the temperature properly. Then the steel enging software stopped controlling the custom RGB key lighting causing it to be stuck on a really distracting mode. I also had many instances of hung programs requiring a restart. The nail in the coffin was the absolutely dreadful speakers. For music they were unusable. I have read about people having to tweak some things to get them to work properly. In summary: great for gaming and work if you have the patience to fix bugs. Not good for plug and play people.

Just wanted something I can easily use for school, work, gaming and content creation. This laptop handles everything like a champ. It does run hot under heavy load but I mean... who cares. People keep saying the fans are loud, they are, but it is not at all bothersome to me. GTAV, Destiny 2, Warzone, NFS Heat, PUBG... all run buttery smooth when maxed out. The true test will be Cyberpunk.. someday. Build is superb, the keyboard takes getting used to but along with the smooth trackpad it feels premium. I compared this and other laptops for months, I am very happy with my purchase.

I upgraded from my Lenovo Yoga 15 from 2017 and it has been a night and day difference in many applications. What this laptop does right is performance and allowing the user to really customize their experience. Plus, the super stealth look is like no other especially for a gaming laptop. The screen is silky smooth is a big step up from any standard 60hz screen, but the color accuracy is not the best but manageable. The speakers unfortunately are not the best and I wish they could be just a bit better for music and gaming. Despite my few dislikes with the speakers and the color accuracy, this device is totally worth it. I think those "weak points" are not too much of a deal breaker unless you are looking for a device solely for content creation. Even with the heavy price tag, it will be worth it if you can maximize on its power.

This laptop wasn't the first choice on my list but I decided to go with it. I can happily say that I made the right choice. This is a powerful laptop in a very thin and light form factor. The stealthy look it has doesn't give off that gamer feel and instead looks more professional. Games look amazing on this 240 hz screen. Very bright, vibrant, and smooth. The build quality is amazing. Its made out of metal so it the body won't bend as much as other laptops made out of plastic. Performance is super fast and fluid. The things I do not like about this laptop is that it runs pretty hot. Even in idle the temperature sometimes go pretty high up. The fans are pretty loud too. They sound like a mini PS4. All in all this is an amazing and powerful laptop and i do not regret this one bit.

I got this about a week ago, and I really do love it. I am a developer and a gamer, and I have a budget. This is a nice machine, and it feels like a nice machine. 240 hz is probably way more than I'll ever need, but it sure is pretty. I got up and running really quickly, and there's not a bunch of bloatware to uninstall. It's been a really nice experience, from unboxing to playing games. I haven't run into any big heat issues as of yet, but I am mostly into RPG stuff like Fallout, Final Fantasy, Borderlands. All run like a dream. The fans do make some noise, as fans do for all gaming laptops, but it's really not that loud. I was impressed, actually. I I love my 1TB SSD. It boots really fast, and not many computers seem to come with that much SSD space out of the box, at least not at this price. The mouse pad is nice and wide, and i don't seem to have any trouble with it interfering with my typing. All in all, a great value. As far as the complaints go, the webcam isn't the best, but I really don't care. The memory is 16GB, and i would really like more for the future, but it's more than enough for now. The case is super-nice and sturdy, but easy to smudge. But, bottom line, worth it? Yes. Do i love it? Yes.

My son needed a laptop for college and as an engineering student he’s required to have a laptop with discrete graphics. He’s also an 18yr old kid who likes video games, and because this was also his HS graduation gift, I wanted it to be something he’d enjoy in his free time. The MSI GS66 proved to offer the best compromise between performance, price, build quality, portability, features and fun. We originally purchased the Razer Blade 15 Base Model but decided to return it when we realized it only had a 60 watt hr. battery (battery life is important for a college student), and no option to charge on the go with a USB C power bank. To get a bigger battery and USB C charging from Razer, we’d have to get the “Advanced” model and pay about $800 more. Yes, the Razer is nice, but this MSI G66 is still a premium laptop, and it exceeds the Razer’s specs (bigger battery, bigger SSD, better graphics, faster refresh rate, USB-C charging) for the same money. Performance is excellent, as expected from a laptop with these specs., and the 240Hz refresh rate is buttery smooth. It’ll get warm under heavy loads, but that’s to be expected from a “thin & light” laptop with these specs. You’ll also hear the fans, even under normal use, but again, it’s the price you pay for performance. That said, there are options to limit the fan noise (silent mode). IMO, the MSI G66 (with these specs anyway) is one of the best values in a premium, thin & light, Intel gaming laptop. It looks great, well built, high performance and portable, with a large battery and plenty of connectivity options (USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, etc…). Checks all the boxes for me.

PROs - Really good performance - Small size / weight - Mostly sturdy design - Display looks great - Subtle/sleeper appearance - Key travel feels good - Good keyboard RGB options - Fast wireless connection - Fast/large NVMe storage - Storage can be expanded CONS - Gets hots - A bit noisy - Bad speakers - Stickers leaver terrible residue - Fingerprint magnet I was pleasantly surprised by this laptop. I benchmarked AC: Valhalla on very high and got an average of 53fps. I recommend Nvidia's optimized settings as it resulted in the same avg and was more stable. I also do some light programming on it and found it to work well in this department as the keys feel good and the display is nice. Even with the listed cons, I still give the laptop 5 stars because most of those are to be expected in a compact gaming laptop, and weren't enough to stop me from enjoying it.

I've had this laptop for 3 months now and I've been very satisfied with it. This is the 1st MSI PC I've owned. It has a premium look and feel with a sturdy build. It weighs slightly less than 5 lbs. Not a lightweight, but more portable than the big 17 inch laptops. I find the 15.6 screen just the right size for the apps I run. At the time bought, the components are some of the latest high-end available, like Core i7 10th Gen, 240Hz display, GeForce RTX 2070, 1TB Solid State Drive. I haven't used it for much gaming yet, but in normal every day use the fans run quiet. Under higher use the fans speeds increase, but to me the noise is not bad at all. It does a good job of cooling with multiple cooling vents on the sides ans well as the back. I like the color lighting of the Steelseries keyboard. The layout is really good and typing feels really good. The keys are spaced well, but there's no numbers pad. My only complaint is the touch pad which is quite sensitive, even at the lowest sensitivity setting, and will sometimes activate a click when I only hover or rest my finger over it. Maybe it's meant to work like that but I'd rather it took only a firm click to activate. Overall, I feel it is a quality performance laptop which has good specs at a fair price.
