I bought a bunch of these bulbs because they're supposed to be the best. But I returned all of them because they kept needing to be reset, about once per week. It was very fustrating, the tech just isn't there yet. Note: I used them on the Apple ecosystem, they may work better on other smarthome platforms.

Currently these lights have pretty spotty connectivity to HomeKit. It's a little better in the Nanoleaf app but also spotty. Hoping their matter implementation gets better over time.

Lights are great but the Android App is terrible.

I want to really love these lights and Nanoleaf but they make it hard to do with how bad the Android App is. I know my lights are online via Thread as I can control them via the Google Home app and Nanoleaf Desktop app on Windows. But the Nanoleaf app on Android isn't able to see them online for whatever reason 95% of the time. If your an Android User I would steer clear of Nanoleaf in general until they can make a working app. Im leaving two stars as the lights are controllable via Windows and Google Home but it would be a five star review if the Android app wasn't terrible.

Hello Chrome, We're always working to improve everything from the technical and the user experience perspective, including things like the app, so those things will only improve over time. We have been releasing firmware updates more frequently to address some of these issues and we are genuinely sorry that you are still having this experience with the App. We appreciate this feedback, will there be anyway we can reach you so we can try troubleshooting with you with the Android App?

We hear you, and we’re sorry for the disappointment. The new A19 bulbs now use Thread for improved performance and reliability, but we understand it can feel like a big change if you were used to the older version. If you’d like, we can help go over your current setup and see what options you have without needing to completely replace your system.

I also own the first generation of these lights which only work in HomeKit over thread. Those lights were flawless. These new matter lights are the single worst part of my smart home. The are slow to respond, often “no response”, colors change drastically as you dim, the Nanoleaf App itself is atrocious. I love my shapes lights, but these new bulbs are garbage.

Sorry for this trouble😓 We will make sure we help you with this! however, we might have to ask you some questions to troubleshoot. The New Matter enabled lights work over Thread. So they require a Matter-compatible smart home hub and a Thread border router. There were also firmware updates recently that should help with making sure they work better. We're always working to improve everything from the technical and the user experience perspective, including things like the app, so those things are only going to get better over time. As for Matter, that's partially still a mystery in the hands of the big players, but for our part we're going to make sure again that everyone has the best experience possible.

Old Nanoleaf bulbs are my favorite they work well and have thread. These new “Matter” bulbs are garbage. I want them to work as well as the older version, but they are unreliable they don’t always turn on or adjust to the right colors. Apple Home will show them on or off as you click them however the bulb doesn’t always change it is 50/50 at best. Try to find the older bulbs and avoid “matter” products for a couple years until the industry resolves the bugs

Got my lights yesterday, paired with the Nanoleaf app and Apple Homekit… then today someone accidently switched off the light switch and all connectvity with Homekit was lost, I even tried a factory reset of the bulbs and removed them from Homekit and the bulbs will still not pair with Homekit, retuning them today.

Great light bulbs. Fast and responsive, and since its matter, it works with all smart home hubs. Just make sure to have a border thread router when purchasing these bulbs, like a Homepod Mini, otherwise you wont get the full benefits and are limited to bluetooth only.

I have 15 of the pre-matter ones and have no issues. The new matter ones took 5 hours to pair and for over a week have been unresponsive. Working with Nanoleaf support still has not resolved the issues. My suggestion is wait a few months before buying these and wait for them to update them after they do a few more updates to the firmware.

We are truly sorry that you are having this experience with your Nanoleaf Essentials Matter A19 Bulbs. The New Matter enabled lights work over Thread, So they require a Matter-compatible smart home hub and a Thread border router. There were also firmware updates recently that should help with making sure they work better. Please Update ALL Apple devices to the latest version, reset your Nanoleaf device (if it wasn't paired successfully previously), and try pairing again. That should make things better. Let us know if it worked out for you or not.
