Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Botvac D7's cleaning performance, navigation, and suction power, frequently praising its ease of use and mapping capabilities. However, some users experienced issues with the brush, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dustbin size, while concerns were also raised regarding the vacuum's long-term reliability and cost. The app received positive feedback for its user-friendliness. Despite some drawbacks, many appreciate the scheduling feature and the overall effectiveness of the dirt pickup.

Great product, this is my second Neato. This one is very temperamental when setting up but works great and it will do multiple floors, BUT it has to have a perfect run with no interruptions in order for this function to work.

I'm going with the 5 strikes and you're our policy. 1. Learning the floorplan. 2. Losing the floorplan. 3. Issue inputting schedule. 4. "Little spinner brush" broke. 5. Big brush head broke. First issue; the vacuum had the hardest time trying to learn our floorplan. It would get stuck and take hours to learn the house and after trying to find it the wife and I would get tired of looking for it and just put it back on the charge base because its loud. Again, annoying but not a deal breaker. Once it learns it does get better. Learning point is have patience's with it and if you put it back at the base it has to relearn all over again. Second issue; is it would somehow forget the floorplan and wouldn't operate, don't ask me why it would lose the floorplan but it was say "Navigation Error" and would refuse to clean. So we had have it "relearn" the floor plan again. Insert more frustrations as see first point. The workaround was it needed to relearn the floor plan. Third issue; the vacuum has a feature where you can schedule to run however you want it to run certain days of the week and at what time it starts. I wanted to run everyday. I would picked all 7 days and pick my times. I would click save and the app would deselect the days and time I picked. At first I didn't notice it but noticed it when the vacuum stopped running. I would check the schedule and it said it would only run on (Mondays, Wednesday, Friday) after I selected for it to run the full week etc. Contacted Neato about this and they were no help sounded like a software issue. Once again I learned the workaround once you select your preferences you have to click save and back out of the app completely to the home page for whatever doing this saves it. If you don't back out completely it deselects your preferences. Annoying! Beyond ANNOYING! Fourth issue; the littler spinner brush broke. It stopped spinning. Contact Neato as it was under warranty they sent a shipping box and repaired it free of charge as it was within warranty period. Last issue; Big brush stopped spinning. After it not cleaning for days. I cleaned it all out as I thought it was clogged and stopped spinning from all the dog hair. Nope that wasn't the issue the brush sits on this tab or whatever its called was completely stripped. So it wasn't catching the brush and spinning and not collecting. This was the last and final straw. We spent around $650 on an absolute piece of garbage. It had these nice features, but my God all the issues that came along with it did not help it at all. I should have caught on earlier as the issue were almost immediate but I didn't act sooner and I should have just returned it back to Best Buy, but I gave it a number of chances and they got me. All I want is my money back, but we all know this will NEVER happen. Don't buy NEATO. Issues after issues and its way over priced. We had a cheap robot vacuum before this and it got the job done. I'm going with the roomba next. I'll never buy a NEATO product ever again.

I should have done it sooner. That said I had it a week and an update came out that has the maps and scheduler broken. It can and does still clean the house when I ask it too. It was easily a 5 star product until this update. Now its missing too many of the premium features for 5 stars, but is still doing a good job in manual mode.

I tried 3 of their models through the years and am back with iRobot for good I think. The Neato just seems to get "dumber" over time. The longer we had it, the more it got stuck, ran into the same wall over and over....just doesn't seem to be up to snuff yet.

      Dear Shirley,
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. It's great that you're happy with its performance and that it is working well at picking up your dogs hair, as Neato are really proud of our robots being pet friendly.
However, we're disappointed to hear that your Neato brush had to be replaced earlier than expected and that it is now making an odd noise.

We would love the opportunity to take a closer look and see if there is anything we can do to help get this resolved for you. Please email us at [email protected].

    Beware the brush bar failures

Good vacuum while it worked. Worked great for 5 months. But then I started to get errors. Often times it would get temporarily stuck up on something and then wouldn’t complete the floor plan cause it would forget where it was in my small home. But the real problem is the flawed brush bar. The one end is semi sealed, it will get dust and debris in it. This will make it hard to rotate, so difficult that the machine will error out. It does not come apart easily and isn’t meant to be fixed. I bought a second bar and had the same issue within a month. In my opinion it’s a good vacuum with great suction but the flawed brush bar needs a redesign.

Thank you for your feedback. Our brushes are interchangeable so a simple brush replacement with an older brush design may work for you. The new brush design has been extensively tested vs the main competitors and did perform best in class.

Overall, the build quality is good and the operation is good. However, there is one fatal flaw.... they like to commit suicide. My Neato that, costs a pretty penny, decided it would drive in reverse down the stairs. Obviously since the sensors that detect the edge of the stairs are in the front of the vacuum there was no stopping it. Major flaw in the design and programming. The vacuum did not survive the fall. After contracting support they advised the only thing they can do is offer a 30% discount on a new machine. Not happening. I prefer to purchase a different brand that values it's life.

Ugh! I researched up and down before pulling the trigger on the Neato Botvac D7 using a variety of online sources. I spent hours reading reviews, watching videos, and consulting Consumer Reports on all of the models that appealed to me. Alas, it was all for naught because there are serious connectivity issues with the Neato. Before you cast my opinion aside as user error, consider this: I do cybersecurity for a living. I built my own firewall, I wired every room in my 2800-sq.ft home with Cat7 cable, and I have five access points throughout the home; even my front porch has a dedicated access point. Please tell me how I can successfully connect numerous IoT devices, eight surveillance cameras, three PoE+ switches, five access points, and control almost every piece of electronic gear (e.g., A/V receiver, OLED TV, Oppo Blu-Ray 4K, Apple TV 4K, etc.) via my phone but I can’t get this $700 vacuum to connect for more than three minutes? I then tried to use the vacuum—without the app, obviously—to gauge its performance (i.e., cleaning, noise, navigation, etc.) for what I bought it for: to vacuum. While it was relatively gentle against my white baseboards and doors, my initial favorable impression of the vacuum itself turned sour when, unbelievably, it became wedged within the wooden legs of a cheap IKEA lounge chair. Not only did it get stuck, the Neato’s wheels continued to spin, marring the painted wood as it made the most horrendous din while doing so. With that, it was time to say goodbye to this poorly-designed piece of “engineering.” I should have listened to my gut when I saw how lousy the cord management slots were designed on the base station. The lack of detail and the outrageous manhandling required to complete something so fundamental as cord management should have given me reason to pack it up and return it before I even took the Botvac out of the box. Overall, it was an awful experience and one no consumer should have to face with a vacuum at this price point.

My Neato Botvac D7 arrived a little more than a week ago. This is the first robotic vacuum I've owed and wasn't sure about this type of product in general. I wasn't sure how it would stand up to my Dyson that I've owned for 5+ years. Overall, I'm loving this little machine! When the box arrived, I was surprised by the size of the box. I guess I expected it to be a little smaller and not as heavy, no big deal though. After unboxing this beauty and trying to find a good place for the charging dock, I had the robot getting ready for its first use. The set up was simple & quick. The steps included charging the vacuum up, downloading the Neato App, & connecting the robot to your WiFi network. The app gives good step by step instructions on how to establish the connection. All in all, the charging took a little bit of time but the rest of the set up took about 10 mins. Now that the robot was ready to go, all it takes it a press of a button on your smartphone and the vacuum does the rest. The first thing I noticed was how quiet the Botvac was compared to the much larger Dyson I have. My dog barely noticed that the vacuum was running, when usually she's nowhere to be found during vacuuming. The next thing I noticed was that the vacuum was running along the edges of any room that it went into. It was moving pretty slowly while doing this, mapping the room so that it knew where it could go and where it couldn't go. The Botvac easily transferred between carpeted rooms and rooms with harder floors (I have tile and wood in some rooms). Once the vacuum had the edges mapped, this thing zoomed back and forth, dodging all obstacles that it could get stuck on. It was quite amazing to watch the first time. After it cleans all the area's it thinks it can get to, it simply stops vacuuming and returns to it base to charge back up for the next time. The app lets you know that the vacuum made it to the charging base successfully and provides you with a map of the area cleaned. While I haven't used the feature yet, once your living space has been mapped, the app does give you the ability to set up boundaries to prevent the robot from going into certain areas. In the week+ that I've been using the Botvac, it has got stuck once, which was much less than I expected. When the robot gets stuck, the app sends you an alert to tell you and shows you on the floor map where the vacuum is stuck. You simply go there and move the vacuum a little bit to clear the object blocking the path, press a button, and off it goes. The app also alerts you when the bin is full with dirt, dust, hair, & whatever else its cleaning up. Some things I noticed are important are that the placement of charging base & that the collection bin is likely smaller than any regular vacuum you are using. The charging base needs to be in a area that give the vacuum room to start its cleaning process, and also room to get back onto the base for charging. It also needs to be somewhere that gives a little resistance so that the robot doesn't knock it back when returning from a cleaning, otherwise you might not have a charged vacuum next time you go to clean. With the collection bin, the first time I ran the Botvac, it did fill up a couple times while cleaning. The app does send you an alert when this happens, but you do have to empty it before continuing. The last 5 days, the bin has not been filling up to the point that the robot had to stop operating since I have been vacuuming every day. My house is on the smaller side, so I'd imagine that a larger house might require emptying the bin more than I have. Overall this is a great little machine. I can come home and vacuum daily without scaring the animals, we all barely even notice that its running. It's nice having clean carpets and floors with little work everyday. Glad I got this little Botvac.

Biggest waste of money EVER. I’m totally sick of this thing and I want to throw it in the trash. I’ve only had it since 2/21/19 and it hasn’t worked in 9 months. And in the time since I got it, it has never worked properly. This is my 5TH!!! YES 5TH MACHINE!! None of them work longer than a couple of months. Neato Customer service isn’t horrific so don’t even bother. They are complete junk and a total waste of money. Do yourself a favor, if you think you wanna get this RUN the other way regardless of a single positive review you might see.
