Customers are saying
Customers are impressed with the Botvac D7's cleaning performance, navigation, and suction power, frequently praising its ease of use and mapping capabilities. However, some users experienced issues with the brush, Wi-Fi connectivity, and dustbin size, while concerns were also raised regarding the vacuum's long-term reliability and cost. The app received positive feedback for its user-friendliness. Despite some drawbacks, many appreciate the scheduling feature and the overall effectiveness of the dirt pickup.

7 months in and this thing is a floor ornament
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this back in December. I’m on month 7 and this vacuum is completely worthless. I can’t even to get it to clean manually anymore because it will not charge. The customer service is terrible because they have no phone support. Very dissatisfied considering the price I paid for this.

Good Performing Robot Vac with Great Feature Set
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The BotVac D7 is yet another robot vacuum cleaner. It has the familiar sleek rounded design. Like other modern robot vacuums, it is app controlled and has a myriad of sensors that let it intelligently map your home. It will automatically find and dock to it's charging station at the end of a cleaning session or when the battery is running low. Like other robot vacuums, it works best on solid floors or short carpets and will struggle if not get outright stuck on high pile carpets. So, where does the BotVac stand out? 1. You can mark areas the vacuum does not traverse via the app. This is by contrast of having to place obstacles (either your own or specifically designed for the robot) into your home (in order words, adding more clutter) to accomplish this same purpose. 2. You can manually drive the robot via the app. This comes in handy for more than just manual cleaning. 3. The shape isn't a complete circle but more like a squared off U. The vacuum brush/opening is in the squared area which allows for a wider mouth by comparison to a round vacuum of about the same shape. This means more coverage in a single sweep of the vacuum which translates to faster and more complete cleaning. Getting started with the vacuum is pretty quick. Download the app, go through pairing mode (bumper and start button) and complete setup over wifi. After an inital charge (or not depending on how much the robot has when it arrives), you're off on a mapping run. This would be a relatively slow one as the robot is figuring out your floor plan, bumping into things slightly to fully map the area. Here, since it doesn't know about "no-go" spaces yet since there's no map, you do need to place a boundary, open up doors, etc to aid with the initial run. After that, on cleaning runs, things run faster with the BotVac avoiding known obstacles though it will still respond if it bumps into something new placed in its way, like a certain reviewer's foot. One thing about the "no-go" markings - they are active with app-initiated cleanings but not ones triggered via the button on the robot itself. Aside from the setup, initial mapping, and setting "no-go" areas, the app also lets you pick a cleaning profile (Eco or Turbo), ability to start, stop, and pause cleaning, and return the robot to its dock. You also get a map of the environment, the robot's current location, cleaning time, status, etc. You can also setup a schedule for cleaning - though this is a normal feature as one of the big selling points for these is to have cleaning take place when you're away or asleep, so you don't need to worry about getting the way or having the turbo noise bother you. Cleaning performance is pretty good. My only gripe is on the higher fluff carpets. The robot gets bogged down in that. To be fair, I've yet to have a robot vacuum handle it well and even my stick has a hard time pushing through. It would be cool if this could act as wet/dry. The kitchen is a challenging area as debris sometimes requires a bit more effort to pick up than just a vacuum and motorized brush, but I'm otherwise pleased with the performance. In summary, this is a pretty decent vacuum. It does a good job, with lots of bells and whistles that helps it stand out from the competition.

I love it, but...
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is one of those things that I have looked forward to for my entire life. Sure, they told me that there would be jet packs, but something that vacuums the floor for me? Now that would be fantastic! Out of the box, it was super easy to set up and get it ready to go. Downloading the app, was equally simple. After letting it charge, we set it to clean, and away it went. Our house is small, but with some thick carpets and oddly shaped furniture. The Botvac started well enough in our relatively simple bedroom, but went in and out of the room sort of randomly, and cleaned mainly in patches. Some areas seemed to get cleaned 3 or 4 times, others, not at all. We figured that it was learning the layout and we hope that it will do better in the future, and it has, but it clearly still has a lot to learn. One big problem has been our irregular chairs. They have angular legs that fool the Botvac and it often gets stuck under the table. Our elevated shelving unit has also confused it, with it finding access under the shelves in areas where there isn't a carpet, but getting stuck where there is a carpet. Emptying the canister and changing the filter were both obvious and easy to do. Setting up the Do-Not-Go areas were harder (for me). By far, my favorite thing was using the Neato App to start it cleaning while I was at work, a few cities away. Knowing that the floors were getting cleaned while I was at work, made all of the frustration go away. Is this a 5 star item? Not for me. Is it super cool and I'm glad I got it? Oh yes. If you have a very simple house to navigate, I wouldn't hesitate to get one. If your house is more complicated, the problems will be more complicated, too, but if you enjoy hearing the sound of a vaccuum that you are not pushing, the Botvac sure will make your day. I would recommend this to a friend with the reservations noted above.

Great vacuum but....
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The vacuum is a wonderful addition to our home and we are so happy to have it, bc if you have hardwood or laminate flooring then you know keeping it dust or dirt free is a serious chore, as you are able to see everything. The QUALITY is extremely sturdy and well built. It is very easy to unpack, get it on the docking station for initial setup and charge. Directions are straightforward but... We have had and still have ISSUES connecting to the app. It states that the bot is connected to the wifi but is unable to connect to the Internet. We tried for two days straight, and on three different devices that had different iOS systems running, before we decided to call support. Don't worry the bot can still run without the app. SUPPORT was very eager to help and the young fellow advised that this is a common issue that it has with some peoples Internet setup. However, he then explained that he was very new to the job and had to pull out his documentation to assist. At, this point we should have asked for someone with further experience, but we rolled with it to give him a chance. He needs the experience right?!? After, about 45 mins and us changing settings and our internet setup (so said "highest/fastest" fiber Internet that is capable of handling a load of connections), we still weren't able to connect the bot. I am going to call support again as it is now a full week without bot connectivity. Although, the app isn't necessary to use the machine, the app makes it possible to run the vacuum away from home, set schedules, have a visual map of your home, create invisible barriers, move the bot to where you want it and so much more. Without the app, I have to manually start the bot, which isn't a big deal. You only have to press one button and it's ready to go, but the point of having the "connected" model is for it to connect and use all of its features, right? On to PERFORMANCE. This little thing is mighty. It cleans so well, it's incredible. It maps the house with precision and we haven't had any issues with its performance. The large and high wheelbase makes it easy to go over any hurdles like the intersecting legs on our coffee table. It picks up sizeable pieces of dirt, food, and random pieces of whatever left behind by the kids. When it finishes mapping the room, it moves very quickly to cover the entire floor, and it hasn't missed anything on the floor. It grabs dirt in the corners very well because of its shape. We prefer this D shape over any rounded models. Also, we have it in an area where there are stairs and, boy oh boy, my heart ached when it got to that part bc I just knew it was going to tumble, crash and burn down those stairs. But it does as it states and has some type of avoidance technology built it. It's smart. It covers the edge of the stair but immediately stops at the edge. Besides the connection issue, we are happy with this vacuum because of its performance ability. If or when we are able to connect then I would be proud to give this 5 stars. If performance was lousy it would have definitely gotten less than 4 stars. Even though support wasn't able to help us as yet, they were very responsive and easy to get a hold of. No long continuous and ridiculous hold times and they are open pretty early for their time zone, so they were able to assist us East Coasters when everyone else would've been asleep.

Works in the Dark!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 2 months of ownership. PROS: 1. It works in the dark. This was the reason to go with Neato (uses lasers) vs. iRobot (uses cameras). So under the bed (easily goes thru dust ruffle), furniture, closets get cleaned. 2. App is easy to use with hints/feedback. Provides map of each cleaning. Has user-definable no-go zones - need them for rug fringes that any vacuum will destroy. 3. Had issue with losing wifi connectivity. Help Desk (Based in Ireland so chatty but friendly guys:)) was helpful with tips. And the recent software upgrade about a month ago seems to be working. They followed up via (robotic) email every 3-4 days. If I reply, they got back pretty quickly. Impressive & the reason for this opine which I am usually rather lazy to pen:) 4. In our research, we read somewhere that Neato suction is greater than iRobot but cannot attest. All I can say is it picks up kids/dog cr#% from hardwood floors, deep-grouted tiles, regular carpets & rugs just fine. 5. We felt that the D-shape is better as it gets to the corners that cr#* seems to prefer. And it has a cute way to ziggy out of tight places. 6. We find the Eco mode (lower noise levels) useful for late evening spot cleanings. 7. Support did tell me they will have user-definable zones in the App soon - so we will be able tell Neato to go do just the Kitchen & Nook w/out the Dog Area for ex. CONS: 1. Does not work with deep shaggy carpets. We have that in our media room where it zombies out:) Happy Cleaning!

There is no better, this is the gold standard.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Neato Botvac D7 Connected is Neato Robotics most recent top of line robot vacuum. Let me start by saying I own a Roomba 800 series and the Neato predecessor to the D7 , the Neato Botvac Connected. Hands down, the Neato vacuums are the best in every respect and the best of the best is the D7. The Neato Botvac D7 navigates better, cleans better, the battery last longer and it cleans faster. The competition just does not stack up and I have looked at them all - Dyson is too tall, too expensive and the battery life is not good, Samsung is too tall and too expensive, Roomba does not get into the corners and takes longer to clean. All the competition does not clean as well nor have as good as an app. So let’s look at the features, functions and benefits and how they stack up against the competition : Design - The first thing you will notice is the “D” shaped wedge design vs the round design of the competition. This enables the brush to get closer to corners. Think about competition, how does a round object possibly get into a corner as well as squared off design? In reference to the brush, do a search for pictures of the brush design on the D7 and brush design of the Roomba. Actually, Neato has the pictures on their website. You will find if you flip the units over the Roomba has a long brush that nearly goes end to end where the competition has two counter rotating blades in the center of the unit and only about half as long. Basic common sense is the Roomba brush ( which is an actual brush) will do a better job. There are many other design features I could go over but I think that tends to just make the review too long. Anyone can go to Bestbuy or Neatorobotics for the full design details. I would suggest going to Neato’s website over Bestbuy’s site, Neato really did a fantastic job and there is everything you need to know. Navigation, the mobile app and cleaning - Neato laser mapping navigation system is top notch. The D7 had no problem navigating through my 800 sq. ft. apartment ( as the predecessor did nearly as well.) When you first run the D7 it has to map out the area so you can create "no go zones.” Those are zones you do not want the robot to go. The prior version used magnetic boundary markers ( this version comes with them as well but you may not need them.) The D7 had no issue navigating around tables, chairs and across carpets, tile and wood. The app is fantastic, simple to use and easy to set up the robots. I already had the app installed for my Neato Botvac Conencted and was able to get my new D7 robot up and running in a few minutes. It was a bit confusing at first because I am running two robots from the app and it appeared that I lost one of the robots. I was wrong, couple of swipes and there they were : Ultron and Jarvis. You don’t have to worry about Ultron, his shell is no longer vibranium and he has yet to shoot lasers out of his eyes. That’s funny to fans of the Avengers , not so much to everyone else. But I digress. Cleaning was fantastic. To be honest , I did not think it could get any better than the Neato Botvac Connected but the D7 does. It was far superior to Roomba 800 series, there was no contest. I am not sure why the D7 does a better job than it’s predecessor ( the design is so similar) but I think part of it has to do with the brush and maybe it has a stronger motor. The Neato D7 battery lasted over 90 minutes cleaning ( I have seen ratings for over 130 minutes for Eco mode and I run it in deep clean mode) and it methodically covered 600 sq. ft of floor space. I have read some reviews that the Neato D7 is loud when it is cleaning. While loudness is subjective, I did not find this loud at all. To test that, I ran a sound meter on my phone and recorded a db rating of 64 at about 6 feet away. That is the level of a conversation and a typical vacuum is about 70 db ( about 60% louder.) So you can see what I did like , what about what I do not like ? I did run into issues of the initial run in creating no go zones. For some reason , it had to run 2 times before it created a map to be used for no go zones. Minor but worth mentioning. Then several days into using the vacuum, it would not connect to the internet and I could not control it through the app. I am guessing there was some type of update that caused this. Regardless of the reason, the vacuum was stuck in trying to connect. I had to install it again and pair it to the internet. That was a bit more unsettling and I could not find what would have caused the issue. Once the D7 was reinstalled, there have been no issues since. One design feature I do not like is the rotating side brush. It is a small brush that rotates and it is supposed to get into corners and brush debris into the main brush head. I can honestly say that it does nothing on carpet and almost nothing on hard floors. It is held on by a magnet. To be honest, it appears to me , Neato put it on simply to compete from a marketing standpoint with Roomba. Roomba has much stronger and larger brush . But you know what? Roomba has to have that in order to get around the inferior round design and center mounted brushes. I do not even think Neato has to have this side brush, the wedge D shaped design is that good. A minor complaint is finding a replacement main brush. In comparing the brush between the D7 and Neato Botvac Connected, the D7 has a straighter brush design whereas the Botvac Connected is more of a spiral design. I could not find a specific part number for the main roller brush that came with the D7 and would like to buy back ups like I have for the Neato Botvac Connected. It looks like they are all compatible with each other but I want the exact that came with the D7. When I go to the Neato website , it lists brush as the Neato Botvac Connected Series Spiral Combo Brush but when I click on it to buy it from retailer, it takes me to the brush kit instead. It is all a bit confusing. Neato, it would be helpful if you could part numbers somewhere so people can differentiate the accessories. Conclusion - The Neato Botvac D7 Connected is simply the best robot vacuum you can buy. It is better in every category - navigation, cleaning, app, Google Home integration, IFTTT and more. There are units that are more expensive but you just cannot beat Neato’s design and engineering. Neato is standard that all others should be measured against in the robot vacuum market. I recommend it completely and give it 5 out 5 stars.

cluttered homes beware
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took us a long while to set this Neato D7 robot vacuum cleaner up due to our living experience. We can honestly say that once set up and once all excess furniture, moving boxes, paint cans, boxes of bathroom tile and tools are packed away and removed this machine cleans well; not perfectly in all spots but much better at grabbing dust and other dirt from under furniture, beds, and tables than we would ourselves with a normal vacuum or with a push broom. It is amazing how it returns to its docking charging station once it senses it needs to recharge and then continues in the area it has not cleaned after the recharge. We got this with the BBuy Insider program and we are glad we did. We took a long time to post this review as stated due to the renovations, delays, other factors, and unplanned family issues in our house.

NEATO ROBOT VAC CLEANS WELL
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upon opening the box, NEATO was packed very well with all items in specific locations that were secured by heavy-duty packaging. All parts were there and there was no "assembly required", which is nice when getting a new product. Charging was overnight. I downloaded the NEATO appl from the ANDROID store for my Samsung S8+. Setting up the NEATO VAC the following day, was difficult. I read and reread the instructions to make sure I wasn't missing something, but getting its BLUETOOTH to turn on was difficult. If the light came on, the appl didn't recognize there was a VAC waiting to be found. It took numerous attempts - powering the VAC on/off, opening/closing the appl, etc. Finally I was able to connect. It should not have been this hard. NEATO VAC POSITIVE: I have NEATO set on “Eco Clean” and it cleans really well. I have 2 other robot vacs and the NEATO cleans better than my BOBI, which up until getting NEATO, I thought was the best vac! NEATO and BOBI are much better than the SHARK I have. NEATO VAC NEGATIVES: (1) It is REALLY loud AND noisy. Has a continuous "grinding noise" when running - on tile or carpet - which is really annoying. (2) It seems to clean only in the 2 areas/rooms that are closest to its Charging Station ... which is a breakfast room and kitchen. It has only slightly wandered into the living room a couple of times, and then immediately returns to cleaning the kitchen. The manual says that it will clean an area until IT KNOWS it's all done, and then will move to another room. So far, that hasn't happened. It just hangs out in the 2 original rooms. Maybe I need to run NEATO every day for 2 weeks to see if operation improves? (My house isn’t that dirty, though.) ALSO, the "map" it built of my kitchen & breakfast room look nothing like the actual rooms. Will this improve over time? (3) NEATO seems to know when it’s battery is getting low and needs charging, but unlike my other 2 robot vacs, NEATO does NOT return to its Charging Station to get more “juice” like the manual says it will. It just beeps and stops and the App says to “carry the vac to its Charging Station”. So much for automation if I’m continually getting up, locating NEATO, and carrying it somewhere! Recharging to 100% is slow, which NEATO seems to need. My NEATO stopped running with 50% battery charge remaining … I carried back to Charger and it estimates 1:45 minutes to get to 100% charge; that seems a bit slow. NEATO APP: Easy to download. Initially seemed to have a problem finding its own robot vac and the app didn’t do anything except send me messages about the NEATO not doing something or battery low. I ended up downloading the app from the Store AGAIN, and this version had the “missing” schedule capability. The Schedule has some flexibility as far as “which days” you want to clean and the START time, but not the END time. I’m still using NEATO to see if it ever builds a “map” of my entire downstairs, but so far, it’s only done the kitchen and breakfast room. The MANUAL says to keep your “robot software updated”. How do you do that … on YOUR ROBOT? I can download updates to the phone/table app, but I haven’t found any way to download software to the actual robot. The Manual doesn’t say WHERE/HOW to get these updates. Like I said, the VAC cleans really well, but way too noisy, which is distracting when working from an adjacent home office!

Cleans the floors well. Note to Neato:
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hi, I just bought my first robot vacuum yesterday - the botvac d7. I bought it because of the virtual no-go lines and the integration with Smarthings (Neato Connect V1.2.3 - Botvac Connected Series). I'm really impressed with its mapping and navigation capabilities and quality of vacuuming, but have three things I'd like to ask. 1) Is it in the works to be able to store two or more floor maps? In addition to the main floor map, I'd like to be able to bring it upstairs and have it clean that floor too, recognizing that floor and respecting a new set of no-go lines, and NOT erasing my existing main floor map. 2) If it has a map of my house and knows how to comprehend no-go lines, is it in the plans to be able to designate room labels on the map? With that, for example, I could say 'hey alexa, tell neato to clean the kitchen' and it knows where the kitchen is and cleans just that room and heads back to base. 3) Speaking of knowing where things are, it would also be extremely useful to be able to designate a spot to clean using the map in the app, and NOT having to pick up the vacuum and set it in a place for it to clean. If I have to go get the vacuum to clean a 7x7 area, I may as well get the manual vacuum and do it myself. It seems like it should be possible for the vacuum to know how to get to the area, clean it and then return to the base. Great product overall, but not quite 5 stars yet. If the above haven't been considered before, I'd ask if you submit it for feedback. The Smartthings integration is awesome, too. I set it up with a rule to clean the house every two days, but only when we're away, and not during vacation mode, and not at night. Slick!

Absolutely amazing vacuum!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This vacuum is so powerful it picks everything up, including the tons of dog hair my rottweiler sheds. It's amazing how smart it is and how fast it is. It remembers the layout of both my first floor and my second floor (including all three bedrooms). I have tons of obstacles all over including 8 dining room chairs with legs that is navigates around. It really picks up everything so well and I'm very impressed. It's container holds so much dirt/hair and it's battery lasts forever! I can do my first and second floors (just over 30 minutes each) and still have a ton of battery. And you don't need to buy a second docking station for another floor/room layout. You just simply set up another floorplan with that same docking station and be sure to keep the docking station in the same starter spot on each floor. Not difficult at all. And it works perfectly in the dark too. I love that I can set it all up and keep track of it with my phone. I highly recommend.

Great for maintenance cleanings
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup: Initial setup was a breeze. I downloaded the app on my Android phone and followed the instructions to the letter. Within a few minutes the vacuum was connected to wifi. The vacuum itself arrived nearly fully charged which was great. I didn’t have to wait to try its maiden voyage. I pressed start on the app and it began to move. First vacuuming: It spent quite some time “sniffing” around my rooms. I was careful to make sure the floor was uncluttered as it poked around the rooms. It is remarkably low profile and fit underneath my couch without a problem. I loved the way it truned it’s flat side to the wall as it continued to map out the floor. Occasionally it would go back to where it had already covered. Not sure why. My floors were relatively clean already, but it did manage to pick-up the smallest debris without a problem. My dog and cat were bewildered as it made its way from the diningroom (where I had it docked) into the living room, kitchen, den and foyer. As instructed, I closed all doors that I did not want it to enter; in our case the bathroom. After a while, it had finished poking around, and found its way back to its docking base. I thought its re-docking was a bit clumsy, but it worked. The really surprising part was the amount of stuff I found in its dustbin. We had just had the cleaning lady there 3 days before and the dustbin was filled with pet hair! I checked the app on my phone and found it had created a pretty good representation of my floor plan. The only grip I have is I can’t use this on another floor of the house and create another map. Summary: I was really impressed with the power of this vacuum. It went from hardwood floor to carpet without issue. Every now and then it does get confused by something that it already knew was there, like our living room coffee table. I suspect that once it was mapped out, if was it moved an inch or two, the vacuum wasn’t sure how to handle it and kept trying to clean around it I would recommend this for in between regular cleanings only because it will not move dining room chairs and other items aside to clean underneath, obviously, but it is great for around the baseboards and collecting the dust/hair balls that form under the couch. One final note: We have a 3 year old that thinks the vacuum is a toy. I found her putting things on top of it as it did its work and once tried to sit on it. I recommend running this after the kids are out of the house!

Posted .Hi, thank you for the wonderful and comprehensive review, we really appreciate this feedback, we have worked really hard on how the robot transitions between floor types, it can be really impressive at how much dust and debris the robot can pick up vs a conventional vacuum! Thanks again! Your Neato Team

Nice Robo Vaccuum

The associated app isn't really necessary to use the Botvac, but it allows you to start cleaning remotely and even set a schedule for the Botvac to clean automatically. It took me a few tries to get the Botvac connected to my wi-fi network via the app, but eventually it was successful. If you have young children, like I do, who leave toys, books, shoes, etc... on the floor, you do need to make sure small items are picked up and out of the way so they don't get sucked up by the Botvac. It is not too noisy, about as loud as the dishwasher or clothes dryer. Nowhere in the documentation or online support mentions what to do if you have more than 1 floor in your home. But I emailed customer support and they replied within 24 hours to let me know that you just need to move the charging base to each floor when you want to clean that floor.

It's true, there's a little prep involved prior to using our vacuums, but this usually allows the robot to navigate your home more efficiently and independently. Don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care team should you require any further assistance with your robot!
