This was bought for my wife working at home. Her office is isolated so being connected to the rest of the house was important. She uses it to see who is at the front door and back door. It allows viewing of video for entertainment, podcasts for edutainment, and music. Coupled with other speakers in the house this fill the center of the home with full sound during music playback. For the price this is amazing what all it can do.
I would give 5 stars but the lack of a camera for video chats is just lazy. Even if it was addable i would rate it perfect.

After having used the NestHub for over a year, I can say that is a solid device. The screen is nice and bright and large enough to navigate and ready text without any issues. Although sometimes there is a lag between changing tasks or switching screens. The music from the built-in speakers are loud and crisp. I just wished the UI was easier to navigate and more intuitive. Other than that, it is quite a wonderful device to view pictures and automate your home.

We have three of these now, they're awesome. The sound is good (what i would expect for the price), very easy to set up and helps keep tabs on everything we need to. My only complaint would be that it disconnects from internet from time to time, but all three do that and it could very well just be my internet provider which is why im not taking off a star. The only other thing to be aware of is the motion sensing is very sensitive on default- one is behind the couch and if music is playing and someone tosses something onto the couch it will pause the music- took a bit to figure out what was happening lol so just something to keep in mind if you sort your laundry in your living room etc

This was a gift for one of my children. They were looking for something with a display to replace their Google Home. From what I hear they are very happy with the Nest Smart Hub and have it connected to heir other google smart home devices. I also own one and have also been very happy with it. It controls other smart home devices mad by other manufacturers. Very easy to set up and interface with my devices.

I’ve had this Nest Hub for two years, and it’s been handy for quick info, controlling smart devices, and photo display. It’s a great buy when it’s on sale, but the interface can be sluggish and the speakers sound noticeably worse than the regular Nest speakers. I am hoping Google Gemini comes to this device soon to replace Google Assistant, which can be a pain.

If you're used to Google Home/Nest speakers then know that these are a remarkable step up in usability. Just having a display for timers alone makes it a pretty handy upgrade by itself.
The place these really shine though is that photo display. They've incorporated an ambient light sensor that not only gets brightness but also color temperature. By balancing the color temperature and dialing back the brightness to only what's necessary they've managed to nail the effect of it not looking like a digital picture frame, but instead it simply looks like traditional printed picture. It's an intoxicating effect that I still marvel at. If you're looking for a digital picture frame then know that this is the Holy Grail of picture frames. Management is dirt simple, just fill a folder in your Google Photos and point the device at it. You can then just adjust the photo list at your leisure.
While they do have light sensors for for the to help with displaying the pictures well note that these do NOT have a camera. So yes you can't use it for two way video calls or as Nest home security cameras but it also means that you can put them in bedrooms without any kind of video camera privacy issues.
I just bought a number of these to replace Insignia Smart Speakers in the bedrooms after first living with the Max version in the kitchen.

The Nest Hub 7" Smart Display impresses with its compact design and smart features. The 7-inch screen is the perfect size for any room, offering clear and vibrant visuals. Its voice recognition is top-notch, thanks to Google Assistant, making daily tasks easier through voice commands. The device seamlessly integrates with various smart home devices, providing excellent control and monitoring capabilities. The sound quality is decent for its size, and the ambient EQ light sensor is a thoughtful addition, adjusting the display brightness according to the environment. It's a great choice for those looking for a smart display that's both functional and unobtrusive in a home setting.

These things are so easy to set up and so convenient to have. The touchscreen display is high quality and very easy to use, but you can also perform the bast majority of things by voice as well. I keep mine in my kitchen and it can hear commands from two rooms away. It is great as a stand alone device to get basic things (like getting recipes, setting timers/alarms, answering questions, playing music), but is also the best home automation hub on the market (controlling lights, adjusting thermostat, etc.). You DO have to purchase additional devices if you want to run smart home automations and your current devices are not Google compatible, but MOST smart devices are.

I purchased this Hub for my parents to set up all their smart home tech. This thing is amazing and is literally the hub. Once you get other devices, controlling them via the hub is so easy and futuristic. I then got one for myself. This is the first thing you need to get your smart home started. Also, you can listen to music on it, watch YouTube, etc.

Best Music and Rain Noise System I have ever purchased. I play it everyday and the screen is very easy to use. Hooked up 4 smaller speakers Google of course and I have an entire surround sound experience in my room “My Oasis”. I purchased for Christmas Gifts for around 6 people after I enjoyed mine so much.

In the tumultuous landscape of modern life, where time and technology often seem to pull us apart, a beacon of hope emerged in the form of the Nest Hub 7” Smart Display with Google Assistant (2nd Gen) in Charcoal. From the moment it took its place in our home, the Nest Hub transformed not only our living space but also our relationship. The sleek Charcoal finish seamlessly blended with our decor, exuding a calming presence that set the tone for a new chapter in our lives.
The magic began with the Google Assistant, an unintrusive yet ever-helpful presence that gradually became an integral part of our daily routine. Our evenings, once marred by the distractions of individual screens and the ceaseless buzz of notifications, found a harmonious rhythm thanks to the Nest Hub's smart display. Its unassuming presence, backed by the power of Google Assistant, transformed our home into a sanctuary of love and shared moments. As a long-time Google Pixel user, i've gone all in on Google products. I got the Nest Hub display on sale for $43 which was a great value for this hub. I use it in my bedroom and it's great for displaying pictures, streaming media, and of course, accessing Google Assistant.
It's also one of 2 products that Google put their Soli chip which allows you to use some hand gestures to stop and snooze alarms or play and pause music. I wish they had done more with the chip, but it's nice to be able to just wave at the hub for those quick gestures.
The device is small, but the speaker sounds great and is enough to fill the average room with good audio. The device doesn't come with a camera though, which you may consider to be a good thing, but of course that means that you can't use any kind of video calling features or apps.

Though they can be a little slow due to their aging internals, the Nest hubs are still great for all kinds of things. We regularly use it for timers, alarms, shopping lists, and weather updates. It's also great for those times when random questions pop up in your head that you need an answer to, and your phone is in the other room. Also, the speak is loud and sounds great! Awesome for when we're hosting parties and syncing the sound with our sound bar and other Nests.

I bought two of these to be used as clocks on our nightstands. Overall, I really like them!
The dimming is perfect. Like, could not be better perfect. It's nearly instantaneous, and is perfectly visible in bright morning light coming in the window, and has such a low setting in pitch black, it's hard to imagine and LCD getting that dim. In fact, I'll go as far as to say it's the best clock I've ever had in my bedroom!
Speaking of which, the sleep tracking, which as of now is free, is really cool. Being able to see how I slept vs how I feel in the morning is fascinating, and has led to me making some changes in my nighttime routine. It's a shame that it'll be a paid feature in the future.
It gets four stars because the interface is just ever so slightly lagging. In an era of buttery-smooth Android and iOS interfaces, this feels like an interface from circa 2016. Not bad per se, but just not perfect either.
Also, when having two in the same room, like on nightstands, when you say OK Google, they both respond, even with Voice ID on. They should be able to communicate and have only one respond.
That said it integrates tightly with my smarthome setup, and being able to reach over and turn off my TV from it somehow feels like something from the future.
I really like these little guys!

Hi Cody, thanks for sharing your experience. We’re glad to hear that you like your Nest Hub (2nd Gen), and we do apologize if you’re experiencing some lags and issues with voice commands.
We could be looking at a possible connectivity issue that affects the overall performance of your Nest Hub, and it’s important to make sure that this is not caused by a spotty or weak Wi-Fi signal. We suggest checking your Wi-Fi network for a strong and reliable connection. If you have too many devices connected on the same bandwidth or if your network package is not enough to handle the data traffic on the network, removing other connected devices to your Wi-Fi may relieve network congestion. You can also try doing a factory reset to improve its performance.
Your feedback is important to us, and your satisfaction is what drives us in improving our products and services. We’ll also make sure to pass along the details of your feedback to the right team. If you need assistance, our support team is always here to help. Please feel free to contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

I was going to get a mini Google Nest as I already have two of them, but the display is SO nice. I've completely replaced my outdated alarm clock with this. It does everything any Google Home product does, just with an additional screen to show you more information. For example, if you ask about the weather for the day, it will vocally tell you, but the display will also show the weather for the next week with highs and lows. It also has a cool feature that dims and brightens the screen based on light it senses already in the room, so it isn't too bright at night.
It was quite easy to set up, just like the others. It's a little bit of a pain to move one to a different room as you have to reset it and reconnect it, but it could definitely be harder.

Very happy. I especially like the large digital clockface that appears at night when you use it as a bedside alarm clock. I have both this unit and an Amazon Echo Show 5. Sound, picture quality, speed and accuracy of answers to questions are better on this unit. The Echo Show is easier to set up for alarms and smart home control. I also like the "drop in" feature if you have other Amazon devices. I have not tried the sleep monitoring feature which sounds a little creepy. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase.
