Owned for 1 year when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.What works well: It's neat you can do video calls and such with Duo, and it can bring up web pages when you ask. Multi-room audio is great when supported. Sound output is decent for its size. Ambient display is neat. What needs improvement: A year and a half after buying it's still functional, albeit slow The UI update they released makes the interface stutter. Assistant can sometimes not respond at all or be delayed in answering. I've compared the performance to my Echo Show, and while it beats it out on general queries no, though that wasn't the case prior, so good to see progress there. By far the most annoying thing is that you cannot separate audio volume from voice and media, so if you're watching a show or movie then ask it a question you're going to get a very loud Assistant voice. For home control the interface is better than the Echo Show, though a bit delayed sometimes. There is no "short response" option so telling it to turn off lights will not result in a short response. One more feature this thing could benefit from is volume normalization considering the large speaker on it. Lastly, there is no news feed option in case you want to see what kind of bad stuff is going on in the world. Maybe that's by design.

Still getting the hang of the specifics on how to use it. If you want to cast something to it, it works much better if it's a sponsored partner of google, otherwise it doesn't always work.

Casting to the Nest Hub Max can sometimes be tricky, especially if you're trying to cast from apps that are not partners of Google. We're working on making this process more seamless, but in the meantime, we recommend casting from Google-partnered apps like YouTube or Netflix. These apps are designed specifically for casting and are more likely to work reliably.

My only complaints are with video call using Duo. No one uses Duo and I would prefer more video calling options like whatsapp or skype. I also would like to be able to change the wake word from hey google/ ok google, to something else.
