It's not magic, still has to use the internet so things like pulling up cameras are very laggy. The gesture features don't work so well and I end up waving around to no results. Seems like there should be more apps. Best use seems to be recipes, some really great features there. Haven't been able to try out video calls, no one will install Duo :(. I can't blame them, Google gives up on stuff too often to invest to much. I hope they dont end up dropping this.

Thanks for your feedback, and for letting us know the difficulty you have with using gestures to control Nest Hub Max. Gesture controls work better with slow and deliberate movement. If the Nest Hub Max isn't responding to your gesture controls, please check the following:
- Ensure the privacy switch is not on (disabling the camera).
- Ensure the camera is clean and unobstructed.
- Try controlling Nest Hub Max with your gestures again but slower. It is best to hold up your hand in a “stop” motion and slowly move it towards the device.
- If there are multiple people in view of Nest Hub Max´s camera, the device will only respond to the closest three people
- Ensure Camera Sensing and Quick Gestures are enabled in the Google Home app device settings. (You will find it under Recognition and Personalization)

Doesn’t really have apps

It says it has Netflix, YouTube TV, YouTube, Hulu, etc but when you click on the apps on the screen, you can’t search or browse or anything. You have to have another device to cast from your phone or iPad or something to actually get to watch what you want. The voice controls are overrated and don’t work all the time unless you know exactly what season and episode you want to watch on Netflix or something. It is much easier to find it on your phone and cast. I didn’t realize that before I bought it and all of the advertisements kept saying this has all of these streaming apps, when really doesnt and just has a dumbed down version of the apps. This thing is is a glorified screen.

You can play and control TV shows and movies on your Google Nest display using only your voice. You can only use select partners to play shows and movies on Nest displays or TVs using speakers or displays. Find out more using this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7214982
You can also try to retrain your Nest display to better recognize your voice. See the steps below on how to do this:
- On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Assistant settings and then Voice Match.
- Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again and then Retrain.

I had to set it up at her apartment and could not do it remotely. Needs to be set up on the WiFi networked it is being used on. Google is trying to make it easy to set up for seniors to communicate but not quite there yet with directions. Finally have mom making video calls with me coaching her. I can video call her from my own Nest hub. Once family all gets the Google Duo app mom can video call them. Had a big group video Session which made mom happy.

You can not ask to see specific videos on YouTube or free search YouTube either only generic searches and you get to pick from what it pulls up. Also no typing keyboard to search either. Would love to see that changed. NO headphone jack , huge bummer. And I really hate that it records footage all the time threw the camera unless you want it turned off all the time. My kid got caught walking threw the livingroom in her panties ( she's 5) . So now we keep the camera off all the time unless we leave or are out on a date and want to check in at home. But once you learn to work around it , it is ok and useful. Just wish it had more options. And wish I could do Netflix and other apps on it .
