It 's really small and fits In tight wall space. I would be just as happy with an old fashioned push the dial AC controller.

Not Impressed with Google Nest Ethics

I purchased two Nest thermostats as part of my home automation effort. Installation was easy and the thermostats look great. Actually they functioned fine as well. The problem I have is with Google Nest the company. In addition to the thermostats, I purchased a Revolv home automation hub. A few weeks after purchasing the hub and thermostats, Google Nest bought the Revolv company and immediately shut it down. They no longer supported the hub and no future development would be done. Emails and inquires to Google Nest about future integration of the hub, etc went unanswered. In a nutshell, Google Nest bought Revolv for the developers and threw away their product leaving their customers with a $300 paperweight. Because of that, I returned the hub and both thermostats. I ended up with the Ecobee 3 which is an awesome thermostat that actually has more functionality than the Nest.

I had my builder install the Nest. The furnace went on but the gas would not turn on.I called the Nest number . The woman I spoke to tried to be helpful, but all attempts failed. I had to have the old thermostat reinstalled. My builder said that there are a lot of problems with the Nest. I wish I would have listened to him. I hope Best Buy will accept a return.

We were excited to buy the second generation Nest for a great price. Unfortunately we could never get it to work correctly. At first it kept dropping the wifi and after a couple weeks it could not even find the signal. Other functions started to go wrong so we traded it in for the 3rd generation Nest. So far after a week the 3rd generation has been flawless.

I was very excited for the Nest and wanted so badly for it to work. I was very disappointed to find that the Nest unit was not turning on my furnace fan (gas fueled furnace). From what I saw on Nest site this is something not supported by the Nest, so essentially I had warm air just trickling from my vents, which was extremely inefficient. Sadly had to return this.

    Great upgrade

This is a great upgrade from a standard thermostat. It's expensive, and I am not sure the overall savings because in reality you'll probably keep the temperature the same as before, however for convenience, it's fantastic. I am a wheelchair user, so for me to just use the app on my phone, rather than move around if it gets too cold, is great. If you get too hot or cold in the night, it takes a second to adjust on your phone. If you leave the house and the temperature changes, you can adjust it before getting home. It also learns your behavior and after a few days, we were not having to lower the temp at night, it would do it automatically. Great product for convenience and it looks good on the wall.

    Great Device

I have had a great experience so far. I read all the reviews and found two negative issues that kept coming up. 1) The battery would not stay charged and 2) the battery would drain quickly. Obviously once the battery is dead, the device fails to control your AC during July in the heat. Not good. I called Nest and they explained what these two issues are in detail. In the first instance where the battery would not stay charged is a situation where the thermostat wires do not provide enough current to charge the battery. In this case a "common" wire connected to the main board of the AC unit resolves this issue. As with most people I didn't want to spend the money to install one so before I bought the device, I opened my existing thermostat and found that I had a common wire already. Newer units have these and units with programmable existing thermostats generally have them. It will be connected to the C spot on your existing thermostat and if you have one you will have at least a five wire system. That solved that issue. Issue number two is that the battery will discharge quickly if it keeps getting kicked off and trying to re-connect to the router. This will discharge the battery faster than it can charge and once again the thermostat will not work the AC if its battery is dead. In this case I called Nest and checked to see if my router was on the incompatible list and they said that my router was not on that list so they were 90% sure I was ok. Issue solved and they were right. With these tow issues out of the way, I purchased the unit and commenced to installing it. Very Very easy. Go the Nest website and view the video to see how to install. I did my first unit in about 15 minutes using the cover plate to cover the old area from the previous thermostat and on the second unit I spackled and painted before I installed the Nest. The spackle and paint took about an hour to dry and the Nest installed in about 10 minutes. Anyone can install this thing who finished high school. Its a bit expensive but its cheaper than the new Honeywell Lyric that came out this month by about 30 dollars and all the software hiccups have been worked out on the Nest

Nest has nice features when they work. If your wireless router is newer, there is a chance it wont work properly with Nest. My Nest constantly loses network access and I had to install an older wireless router to make it work.

Perfect Compliment To A Modern Home

This item was purchased for a new home my girlfriend recently purchased. I originally saw the item at a friends condo that was recently purchased in Atlanta. They were remodeling the space, and I instantly noticed this eye-appealing piece of technology on the wall. Its a sleek, modern design thats easy to install as long as your patient, read the instructions and follow it exactly. I definitely enjoy technology and am looking forward to what other products NEST will roll out since they are a part of the Google family. Considering the Smoke/CO2 Detector next. If you're thinking about modernizing your home, have a working WiFi connection, and want to potentially save energy costs of your home, then I highly recommend purchasing the NEST thermostat.

    Works Flawlessly, Beautiful, Functional!

Calling this a THERMOSTAT is like calling a Ferrari a CAR. What an understatement. This is everything I hoped it would be. First of all, installation was a snap. Super easy. Nest even provides you with a screwdriver, so no need to hunt around for any installation tools. Took me less than 30 minutes to install. Programming. SIMPLE! The attractive color display of the Nest literally walks you through everything from WIFI setup (more on that later) to setting preferences and a final test. Again, flawless integration. Some may complain about the need to enter your WIFI key by using the rotating outer ring of the thermostat. But, while it took a few minutes, it was still very easy to program the Nest for WIFI access. There have been some complaints about the Nest losing WIFI connection and the inability to control it remotely. I have not had this issue, although this has only been installed for a short period of time. Again, nothing would indicate that WIFI communication is problematic. Finally, this is a stunning looking thermostat. Again, super functional. Extremely modern looking on the wall and most importantly it works as advertised. If you are thinking of replacing your thermostat for a programmable type, spend the extra $$$ and BUY THE NEST. You won't be sorry!

Unfortunately Nest has hit a home run on the hardgood product but fails miserably on the service side of their business. Fully researched product and system compatibility before purchase, installed as directed and started to encounter Nest stopped working. Essentially, Nest believes it is "heating" but it does not prompt the furnace to kick-on and therefore the temperature keeps dropping. Opened a service ticket with Nest after waiting on hold for 42 minutes the first time. No solution, upon my fifth call, I was sent a small transducer and a Nest installation professional. The professional Nest sent could not even get Nest on the phone via the service contractors hotline. The professional has visited my residence 5 times to try and fix the problems, fully rewiring everything and installing a new control panel. He is as frustrated as I am. Still, no answers or guidance from Nest customer service. If I could return Nest and get a full refund, I would gladly do it. Any company that can produce a great product but fail on providing great service, does not deserve to be in business and I don't see Nest staying in business for much longer. I advise you to find another smart thermostat option.
