Easy to install, takes about 15 minutes. Totally worth the investment. Austin energy gives a $85 rebate of you install nest. Plus I've been saving on my electricity bills for the last 4 months. I think I'll recover the cost in another 2-3 months.

I have had this unit for 3 months. It exceeded all expectations. The unit seems to improve with each software update--and that's a good thing because we all know that some updates don't always work as planned. I had a problem with my Heating/Cooling unit last night. The tech service provided by Nest was superb. My technician was out of Ireland, and was totally awesome. He walked me through a troubleshooting procedure, even though we knew the problem was probably with the furnace control panel (replaced two months ago), not the Nest Thermostat. It was not the Nest, it checked out okay in the testing. I highly recommend Nest products, especially the Nest Thermostat to anyone wanting to upgrade those old thermostats to something modern, sleek, flashy, attractive, and with Wi-Fi capable adjustments from Cell, PC, Tablets, which means in car, at work, laying on your back, in bed, and so on. Yes, I'm a geek and lazy too. The Nest Thermostat also increased my energy savings by 20%. Imagine what would happen with the nest on a modern energy efficient heating/cooling unit. The possibilities are almost endless.

I've dealt with the older models and this one actually works way better. This one was a gift for a friend and I installed it for them. It was much better than the one I bought and returned a long time ago. Would I buy it again...no. I bought one that worked with Apple and Android so why bother changing.

Received the Nest as a Christmas present. My son has had one for about a year. The unit was easy to install, had my son help tho. It took about 15 minutes. Love the programmable options and it took only a few minutes to connect to our WIFI and update the unit. The installation went without any glitches and all the necessary installation needs were included. The look is subtle and stylish. Adjustements are so much easier than my previous thermostat. The mobile app is excellent and works well on my android phone. Registraion was easy. The menu's online and on the mobile are very good. Again, the capability to program multiple hours and days are very useful. Great product.

How can you not rate.this a 5 star. I have had many program able thermostats both in the home and in the yoga studios. Nothing is as simple as the Nest to install, setup, and program. Running the Nest from your phone app makes it even easier. No longer do you have to stand there and program your new thermostat, relax in your chair at home at your workplace or even out at a friends. You can turn your heat up or down with your smart phone. When I vacation and the weather takes a turn for the worse back home simply open the app check the current temperature in your home and adjust it accordingly or simply put it on away and forget the program all together when you don't need it to run. I purchase many tech minded gadgets and this by far has been one of the best. Did I mention the money saved on a monthly basis, I don't think I need too you get the picture.

At first I was skeptical about purchasing this thermostat. It is very stylish and it looks awesome but that alone does not justify the $250 price tag. I bought it on sale at Best Buy for $225. The nest help desk was very helpful, I sent a picture of my old thermostat and they told me how to install the nest thermostat. I had it up and running in about 30 min. Being able to control and review the usage from the iPhone is a plus, but the best part was when I received the first electric bill after the first month. Coincidentally I installed the nest the first day of my billing cycle. I live in NC. My house is 2300sqft. with one heat pump unit that cools and heats the entire house. I installed it on May 14 and the first electric bill covered from May 14 to Apr 15. The bill was $136. Last month bill was $217 and last year's bill was $173. That is a $81 difference from last month and $37 compared to last year's bill. It seems like this will pay for itself in 6 months, after that is savings. I had a programable thermostat and yes I did use the programable features but it was wired to use the Aux. every time the heat pump was running. The auto-away feature is very useful, the family has a very steady schedule but the auto-away help us save in those days that we get out of the routine. Overall I highly recommend this thermostat, it is kind of expensive up front but it will pay for itself in the long run.

Family has a weekend / vacation home in South Lake Tahoe. During the winters, arrivals can be frigid as the programmable thermostat is set at 45 degrees to conserve energy and keep the hose from freezing. It can take about 2 hours to bring the house to a comfortable temp and even longer until the floors and stone have absorbed the heat. Had looked at other wifi thermostats but nearly all of them had issues if there was an intervening power outage, a common occurrence in our area during heavy storms. The NEST was recommended to my sister how forwarded the link to me and outside of the Apple bashers on some of the review sites, the product looked to be perfect for our needs. While the price is nearly double other wifi thermostats in the marketplace, the EASE OF INSTALL AND USE was appealing as well as the ability to reinitialize following a power interruption. The install was super easy. The user interface as super easy. The smartphone ap is sweet. The control via internet on laptop is adequate. Oh, story behind the not so great was my failure to turn of the power to the furnace, as called for in the instructions. Ended up blowing a fuse on the heater's circuit board. It is a common spaded fuse (similar to auto fuses). The fuse was labeled E but look at your circuit board for the fuse's amp rating or simply match the color. Having only installed the thermostat two days ago, I haven't yet rated the energy savings. I suspect that the lower min temp of 40 degrees (versus 45) will account for the bulk of our savings this winter, when the house is unoccupied.

I was looking for a wi-fi controlled thermostat. I wanted to keep the temperature in the house around 55 degrees or so when the family's away for a few days during the winter, but then use a smartphone to bring the temperature back to normal a few hours before we arrived home. I thought my choices were between Honeywell and Homewerks, but a heating contractor suggested I get a NEST. I had never heard of it, but I owe this guy big time, it's SO much better and more innovative than the other two. I installed it in 15 minutes, and unlike the other two thermostats it installed perfectly on my 4 wire system without a "C" wire. (most older homes with standard forced air heating and cooling just have 4 wires and the other wi-fi thermostats need five.) The available Android app (yes, they have one for Iphone too of course) is so much fun. In addition to allowing you to adjust your thermostat's setting, you can see your current house temperature and humidity and whether the furnace or air conditioner is currently on. The app has a really cool energy chart which will tell you exactly how many hours your furnace or a/c was running for each day, and then break it down to exactly what times your system was operating. To be fair, I have not used either the automatic programming feature (I'm happy to program it myself) or tested the Nest's Auto Away feature. I have them both turned off so I can't report on how effective and accurate they are. There are many other features I don't have room to describe, and Nest promises many more features to come. When they have a software upgrade, they just push it directly to the thermostat, you wake up one morning and it's there! I think you'll really be happy with this purchase.

Works exactly as advertised. Unfortunately that's exactly how it works. It lacks many features of a normal thermostat like "Hold Temp" and the away feature only cools your house to 76 degrees. it also learns your away schedule so even if you dont set it to away it will set itself to away and your house will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. this is how it reaches the 30% savings. the nest also physically locks you out so you have no control over the limits, though you can make it warmer in the summer and cooler in the winter, but why would you. The interface and function is very smooth. I would recommend playing around with the interface before you purchase it. I was really excited when I bought it, but now that im 90 days in I really wish I would have gotten a different one. The Wifi works well and I do like the ability to use my phone. So it's not all bad, I think its a good fit for some people, just not for me. Again try before you buy.

I purchased this on the recommendation of my brother. The install took less than 30 minutes and then the setup took alittle longer. But once it was running it was a technological masterpiece that not only saves you money but looks great doing it. If I feel the need to control it outside of what it has learned I just go into the app and raise or lower the heat but most of the time the nest is way ahead of me and adjusts to my schedule. It also sends mo thy reports so it's almost like a challenge to balance comfort with efficiency which was never the case with the dull thermostat I had before. Excellent but in my opinion.

I really like this product and I'm sure it has saved us money. It can sense when you are at home and automatically adjust the temperature up or down (depending on the season). Of course, that sometimes means you can arrive home to an uncomfortable house, but there are ways around that such as adjusting the temperature with your smart phone, or setting up the Nest to adjust the temperature before you get home to ensure the house is comfortable when you arrive. We have had an issue with the Nest losing battery power, which required me to disconnect it from the wall and plug it into a mini-USB to jump start it. That is the reason I only gave it four stars.

Was skeptical to buy at first, replacing my old thermostat in my condo. Wondering if I had to hire a technician or if I had the right heating/cooling system that this product would work on. After a couple of weeks debating it, I went ahead and purchased the thermostat, and it was by far the best investment I have made. This new thermostat works incredibly well and can control it anywhere in the world. Is very stylish/modern looking too!! Have gotten so many compliments on it. And whats better than to be on vacation and come home to a hot or cold house depending on the temp. after you have been away. Or at work and the weather turns really cold, you can log-in and turn the heat up and have it be nice and warm when you return... Love this product and just bought the protect as well!! :) Give it a try will not be disappointed!

The Nest was recommended to me by a friend so I decided to get one. I have loved it ever since. It took me about 45 minutes to install and this was only because I was unfamiliar with my new house's electrical panel to turn off the breaker. It really should have only taken 30 minutes at the most. After I did get it on the wall, it was super easy to walk thru the setup. It seamlessly connected to my network and immedietly began to learn my schedules and AC habits. The APP lets you not only control the temp from wherever you are, but also lets you keep track of you usage and energy efficiency. This product is great for anyone looking to become more energy efficient, likes gool looking gadgets, and wants aa automated home. I highly recommend.

Its an awesome purchase, user friendly, easy to install and a must purchase

I was looking for a simpler thermostat and saw this on TV. I purchase a single unit and was so impressed with the ease of installation, connection to Wi-Fi and controls. After having this unit in the house for a two days I was so happy I purchased a second unit for the upstairs. Been very impressed with the ease of use and the improved automatic temperature control of the house.

My first electric bill since installing he Nest dropped almost $25 without any sacrifice in home comfort. My 2nd bill was even lower and the outside weather was basically the same both months. The Nest is a fantastic thermostat and I'm thrilled I invested in it. The convenience of being able to control it via my iPad, iPhone or laptop is fantastic. The Auto Away feature is great, tho I wish I could adjust the amount of time until it senses I'm away. I think the default auto away time is 2 hours. The interface is simple to understand, yet sleek and the web interface is fantastic. The monthly energy status reports have great information about your usage. Invest in a Nest and it WILL save you $$$$.

We installed the 2nd gen nest thermostat and we really love it. The ability to change our temperature from anywhere at any time is so important to us and makes our lives so much easier. The only thing I wish we did was wait a little longer to buy the newer 3rd gen thermostat. Maybe we will upgrade in 2016 and pass this one on to a family member.

This on of the best purchases I have ever made. I could control my AC from anywhere so long as I have my phone in hand. Set up was very easy! I have recommended it to all my friends and have even bought it as gifts for the whole family.

I currently own two Nest thermostats in a split level duplex. I love the design and the ease of use. The app is easy to use as well and provides a considerable amount of extra information (energy history for example). Installed both thermostats on my own and it averaged out to take 15 mins each. The downside has to be the price. $250 is a lot of money and after one full year of using the thermostats, we have saved about $50 dollars thanks to them. Long term it will pay off, but until then the price is for the look and feel.

Best seriously, I don't have to get up in the middle of the night to play with the temperature. I just open the app on my phone and BOOM, its done. You can also program your weekly energy schedule and view your energy history. Great user-interface and easy installation. A+++
