Works great for this. I use it to change the channel on my dish satellite reciever and tons of other things.

I stream music and NPR while on the kitchen. I have another one on my room. Don't forget about the option to turn the mic off if you want to.

This is an addition to our other Nest Mini and connect seamlessly to our home. We can control our thermostat, lights etc. with ease. My one complaint is the Google Home app that drives all these devices. It’s not very intuitive and there lots of fumbling around.

It's not necessary, but it's pretty great for home security and general usefulness.
