But major caution - if your wifi network is 5GHz (not to be confused with 5G mobile data), the network needs to be on certain channels to function (specifically, any channel under 149, according to Google Support). If you dont have access to your router (say if youre at a dorm, like my partner is), and your network is using a higher channel (which it might as it intelligently maps to the least noisy channel), the speaker will not even make it past setup. It will not even see your WiFi. This is a MASSIVE oversight, and Google needs to make a new unit that FULLY supports this years-old feature, especially with WiFi 7 and 6GHz frequency bands coming.

Good addition to our kitchen

However, it doesn't always recognize voice commands effectively. Since it's often on sale and very affordable, I don't have too many complaints.

Google Assistant might not respond properly when you say “Hey Google” or “Ok Google,” particularly in a noisy environment, or if it's having trouble connecting to Google. Retraining your Nest Mini, to better recognize your voice, and adjusting the Hotword sensitivity may be helpful with the issue. You may follow the steps on these help articles:
- Check which devices are using Voice Match: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7588195
- Adjust how sensitive Google Assistant is to “Hey Google: https://support.google.com/assistant/answer/9712065
You can also try these simple steps below that may improve your experience:
- Check your Wi-Fi network for possible congestion. Relieving some of your connected devices may help free up some bandwidth space.
- Check the distance between the Nest Mini and your router. Ensure that it is within a line of sight from your router.
- Check for wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or appliances and devices nearby.
- Restart Nest Mini and router to refresh the connection.

Also it lacks the direct connection feature, you can only " announce" a recorded message, where with the competitor you can have a direct line of communication between two dots. In so many words Google needs to catch up.

And its listening is still not accurate, Starts to speak all of a sudden sometimes when a movie is playing. Or not respond when you call for it. Google really needs to allow customizing the wake up word. "Hey google" or "ok google" is simply not easy to call out like "alexa"
