Recognizing devices one time but then ignoring them at other times. No set pattern or reasoning. I have used home automation since the 80’s so I am not a nubee.

If you haven't already, you can give each of your smart-home devices its own nickname for better control. Nicknames are alternate ways to call the devices in the Google Home app.
Here's how to create or change a nickname:
- Open the Google Home app.
- Select the device then go to Settings and then Name.
- Enter a name and then tap Save.
You can also say the voice command, “Hey Google, sync all devices." to refresh the connection of your devices and to make sure they reflect the correct settings.

Algorithms are all over the place these days. I think they are using third party search evaluators. It has become a talking remote these days honestly.

You can still play music using YouTube Music and Spotify for free, but you'll hear a station of songs inspired by the song, album, or artist. You may not get specific songs, albums, and/or artists, but you can ask for music based on genre, mood or activity. You can link your music services and pick a music service as your default to enjoy music from popular music services by artist, song, genre, album, playlist, mood or activity. This default service will be used first when possible. Please see the steps below:
- Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
- Open the Google Home app.
- At the top right, tap your account.
- Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account.
- Go back to the home screen, and at the top left, tap Add, tap Music.
- To choose your default service, tap the music service you'd like to use. Assistant will use this service when you say “Hey Google, play music.”
