Great to add voice assistance to sonos speakers. Would be great if their app wasn’t broken on ios. Can’t enable personalized searches, voice recognition, or anything in the app.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your experience about Nest Mini. We’re sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your phone application.

If you are referring to the Google Home app, we recommend doing the following:
      - Uninstalling then reinstalling your app.
      - Has iOS 14.0 or later.
      - Use a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Wi-Fi network (a WPA-2 Enterprise network won't work).
      - Has Bluetooth turned on.

If the issue still persists, we may need to take a closer look and investigate what’s causing the issue. Feel free to contact our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

I ordered this product online and the sound of this device is not good. I can clearly hear the cracking sound of it. Maybe it is a defective one. I will return this and maybe get a new one soon.

Hi there Sampada, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that Nest Mini didn't meet your expectations, especially when it comes to the sound quality. If this is only happening when playing music or media, you may need to check the items below and see if this will sort it out:
      - If you have a dual band router, try setting up Nest Mini on either the 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands and see which band is more stable.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave oven, refrigerator or other equipment.

If the issue is happening even when not playing music or media, we'd like to take a look at your Nest Mini and see what's causing the issue. Please reach out to our support team here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

The google nest is fun! It has great sounds without the extra pricing some stuff on the Alexa’s do. This one is simple, it’s a great speaker for music or audio books, it tells you the weather, your traffic, it will add stuff you your lists and turn off your lights. Now if only it would fold the laundry…

      - On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app.
      - At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial and then Assistant settings and then Voice Match.
      - Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again and then Retrain.

      Change Nest Mini’s hotword sensitivity:
      - Open your Google Home app.
      - Select your Nest Mini.
      - At the top right, tap the Settings (Gear) icon.
      - Then tap Audio.
      - Then tap "Hey Google" sensitivity and adjust the slider to make your Nest Mini more responsive to the hotword.

Fantastic addition to Google Home Users

I have multiple Google Homes in my house. I have one in the basement, kitchen and bedroom. I had a Google Nest Mini ("mini") in my kid's room so we can read books together (Golden Books has a feature) and play some night music on a timer. If you're a first time smart speaker user (and please, for those that are weary of smart devices as a whole, that discussion is for another place) I would first recommend a bigger speaker for music, but if you have a small space or are wanting to add voice capabilities to a new room then the mini is the device to get. This new version offers better voice recognition and sound and it has a convenient wall mounting hole on the bottom. IN THE BOX Not much, you get the speaker and a power cable. It's charged by a proprietary cable (well standard-ish power cable) and is not charged via USB. SETUP Is dead simple. You have to download the Google Home app, from there you tap the plus icon in the top right, go to setup device and then you can add a new device. If you haven't done so, you can assign rooms and tell Google Home what room your mini is in. This will help whenever you add (or if you already have) other smart devices such as lights. Once added, you'll likely have to wait for some update to download and then you're off and running. SOUND QUALITY Again, if you're wanting to use a smart speaker to just play music, I would get a bigger speaker. But having said that, the sound on the new mini is pretty impressive. It's not going to blow you away, but the sound is less muddled than the first gen device and I think it does great playing instrumental music in the background when you're, say reading or studying (or night time music). USING IT I found the new mini to be very responsive. I've experienced issues with all of the smart speakers I've ever used, when it comes to activating the assistant. Some days they hear me just fine and respond on the first instance, others they don't. I can't figure it out. Sometimes its just because I'm playing the music loud and I have to yell to get it to hear me. With the new mini, I found it to be much more responsive. I don't know what to attribute it to (new software or new microphones?) but I found it to hear me the first time, every time (for now at least...). FEATURES Honestly, there's not much to say in terms of features that don't apply to other smart speakers. This mounts on the wall which is nice, although I never had the thought to do it (3rd parties make such wall mounts for most smart speakers) until the ability to do so was built in. Putting it on the wall makes the sound better (not sure why) and I think having it raised a bit helped it understand me better, plus it's not taking up desk space, not that it's that big anyway. I just hate having the wire hanging down the wall, but I'm sure if you really wanted to you could hide it one way or the other with speaker wire channels or putting it in the wall. Other than that, it's your same 'ol smart speaker, which people either love (like me) or don't (afraid of someone listening). I use the mini to control my lights, lock my doors, activate my security system and close my garage door. And that's where I think the true utility comes in for the mini. It's fine, and reasonably priced for just listening to music or asking for the weather, but it really shines when you incorporate/link other smart home devices to it. There's nothing like being able to tell Google to lock up the house at night when you're already in the bedroom and forgot to check if the doors and/or garage is locked. CONCLUSION This is a great starter home speaker or great addition to your Google Home environment if you already have one and are looking to expand although I don't think it's necessarily worth upgrading any current Google minis you might have.

The Google Nest Mini is the new version of the Google Home Mini. Placed side by side, you can not immediately tell the difference between them. When you turn them over however, the Nest Mini has a built in hook to hang on the wall versus having to purchase a separate holder for the original home mini. The other give away is the power plug, it is now a barrel plug rather than a mini-USB. Setup is the same and handled through the Google Home app. The nest is supposed to have improved microphones to pick up your voice better. I had no problem asking Google from across the room and responses seemed to be a tad faster. The nest is supposed to have better sound as well. I created a speaker group with an original and the Nest and for what it's worth, you can tell the difference between the two. The Nest sounds a little bit richer and there is more bass, but don't expect full-bodied mind numbing sound from the device’s small speaker. The new Nest also has a sensor that knows when your hand is near it and when playing music through the device, the volume buttons located on either side of the four lights on the top light up to show you where to touch to raise and lower the volume. Touching the top of the Nest also will pause the sound. The Nest has an intercom feature that is supposed to work between linked devices but I was unsuccessful in getting this to happen, but I bet that's more user error than device issue. It would be nice for it to have an integrated clock option like the Echo Dot to allow it to be better bedside device, otherwise you can set alarms and check the time simply by asking it. The Google Nest Mini would be a perfect addition to your desk or office where listening to music or radio is done at a lower level. I give the Nest Mini 5 stars because it does what it's supposed to do and the sound, while not earth shattering has improved over the previous model. If you are looking for full-bodied orchestral sound, the Mini is not the device to give it. For accessing your Google Assistant, listening to audio in smaller settings and making calls to others, the Google Nest Mini fits the bill just fine. The google Nest Mini does everything I expected it to do and fits in perfectly with the rest of my Google based home and would recommend it to my friends.

      Hi Alana,

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. Your experience with Nest Mini is important to us and we're sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you. There would be times that Google Assistant might activate, even if you didn’t say “Hey Google” or “OK Google.” This can happen when it detects something that sounds similar. To make it less sensitive, we recommend adjusting the “Hey Google” sensitivity setting (English Assistant language only) . This setting lets you choose how sensitive your Nest Mini is to phrases that sound like “Hey Google” or “OK Google.”

      To adjust the sensitivity setting:
      - Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
      - From the main screen, select your Nest Mini.
      - At the top right, tap Settings and then “Hey Google” sensitivity.
      - Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you.

If the problem does not resolve, you can reach out to our support team so we can help you improve your experience here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

A great way to have music going for hours plus so many more possibilities that we are still discovering. Curren weather, news, jokes, games, every fact you could ever want to know all with the request of your voice. My family loves all different styles of music and we love how easy it is to change what you are listening to with a simple voice command. The speaker sounds great too no matter how loud or soft you play it. So impressed with the sound quality and it’s only the size of my fist.

I have a Google home mini and now I have a Google Nest Mini (2nd gen). Along with these speakers I also have two kids a seven month old and a five year old. I was in the kitchen today and my daughter says ok Google from the living room, " play high high hopes!" Google said okay and played high high hopes by panic at the Disco. Next my daughter says" ok Google play the kids high high hopes" I couldn't believe Google started to play the Kidz bop version. It seems tounderstanding casual conversation and figures of speech even, ton better than when I got the Google home mini. Also sound quality and ability to hear you across the house without really screaming, that's cool too. My only complaint is the Google home app not being able to connect to speakers at certain times and not syncing the groups well.

I have several google minis 1.0 and a Bose system with the assistant built in. The Bose is hands down the best, but it’s darn expensive! I put the mini 2.0 in my “man cave” and use it mostly for winding down in the evenings listening to jazz and painting. It sounds a lot better than the first release, with slightly cleaner mids. Supposed to have richer bass, but it’s not really something that thumps. It does have the ability to be wall mounted, but mine is just sitting on a shelf. Overall, it’s an improvement, but I’m not sure if it’s a “2.0” improvement instead of a “1.5” improvement. However, if you need a few more minis or don’t have a mini yet, you might as well get this version in case there are little differences not immediately recognizable.

Hi Bugsy, thanks for posting your review on your Nest Mini and we're sorry to hear that your experience with the device was less than ideal when it comes to the device always listening. We recommend that you toggle the mic switch to off which can be found next to the power cord. The switch will display orange when the microphone is turned off. Please take note that by doing this it will prevent your Nest Mini from listening or responding. If you want to interact by voice with Nest Mini, the microphone must be on. If you need further assistance with your Nest Mini or have additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us on our Google Help page here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

Avoid. Bought on sale and returned within 2 weeks. The whole product and design concept is immature and requires a complete re-engineering overhaul. From some 3rd party, unheard of company? Okay, I might be able to accept it. From a multi-billion dollar conglomerate, Google? Forget it. Save your money!

The second generation Nest Mini doesn’t have glamorous new features, but the added tech is obvious improvement!! Our old minis have only two mics, which makes for more repeated questions and directives than I think should happen. Just the addition of one mic levels this new guy up to the “other” home assistant’s level of responsiveness! That’sa huge deal to me. Hey google that responds on the first try through music and conversation already playing. The speaker sounds better too. I’ma fan of you tube music and it sounds great on this. It’s the size of a hockey puck, so it’s no going to fill a room, but it’s full enough to sing along with while I’m cooking. Google also added a wall mount. It’s nice but keep in mind there’s still a cord. Where this shines is under my cabinets!! Definite “duh” feature that should not cost extra As an accessory like other brands.

Coming from a Amazon/Alexa only setup since their start I never used any of the Google Home devices. But since Google is making it a bit harder for things non-goggle to play nice with one another products (i.e. NEST) I figured it's time to give it a shot. The Nest Mini seems to have taken a book from the new Echo Dots (or was it the other way around). Either way, both mini speakers now use barrel-type power connectors instead of MicroUSB. Apparenly it's due to power limitations of MicroUSB. I am disappointed to see that they didn't choose USB C in both systems. And in any case, how much more powerful are these mini speakers getting that they need that much more power? The speaker gets pretty loud and clear for it's diminutive size. The sound doesn't have a great deal of depth, but for getting voice across it works well. The mic seems to pick me up from the other side of my split level home. Though I can't really hear it respond to me from that far due to where it is placed. The build quality is nice and solid. The touch controls on the top of the unit work as they should and the switch to lock the mic is appreciated, but I wonder if it TRULY disables it or if it's just a false sense of security mode and tells it not to respond to ANYTHING... Having one of these units in the house means we are expecting to give up some privacy. Either way the Nest Mini has integrated perfectly into the various "smart" systems I have set up in the house and since I have an Android phone, the Google Home app more streamline and preferable to the Alexa app. I like both systems as they each have their strengths. My Alexa only home has a new roommate and has found it's place in my home.

The Google Nest mini is a great compact device and its a fine much needed upgrade to the Original Google home mini. I own a few Voice assistants in my house including a Google home display, a home mini, Nest Thermostat, philips Hue, Sengled smart lighting, and a couple Amazon Alexa devices. the great thing about the Nest mini is that you only need to sign in with your Google account and it will set itself up and sync with all the other Google devices you have at home. I love the feature of playing music on all Google devices in different rooms at the same time, I love the announcement mode where you call everyone for dinner and all Google devices announce what you asked. The routines are so configurable and easy to use it really makes a different and saves time. the improvements on the new Nest Mini include a much better sound quality on the device itself compared to the last generation. the built in wall mount, and the sensitivity to sound is much better thanks to the added mic. The price is right and the features are great.
