Bluetooth Out Doesn't Work
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The primary reason I wanted to use this was to broadcast out streaming music from the Nest Mini to my nearby bluetooth stereo speakers.
Nope. The connection would quickly result in audio stutter or disconnect altogether. This despite the usual tech support suggestions to reset, reinstall or change settings on my router. I did all of those. None of that worked.
Google acknowledged this design flaw on their tech support discussion site a year or so with a friendly "thanks for letting us know!" and empty commitment to do something. They have done nothing that I can tell.
Oddly, I have no such bluetooth-out issues with my Google phone, so I suppose I really don't need this Nest Mini. It just seemed cool.

Poor build quality, even worse customer support.

Beware! Randomly failed just a few weeks after the warranty expired. Google customer service just shrugged it off and was completely unwilling to help in any way -- the exact opposite of what Amazon and Apple have done for me. You get what you pay for: cheap build quality, cheaper customer support. When it actually worked, the audio itself was decent for its size, but it often failed to hear me, failed to understand me, randomly decided not to respond at all, or took forever to respond. This seemed to get worse as the product's life went on. You'll probably be happy with it for the first months, as I was, but beware the poor build quality and the dreadful customer support.

We received a Nest Mini from Google for free. If you pay more than that you are overpaying. We have no clue how this device could improve anyone's life, even incrementally, and that's leaving privacy concerns out of the discussion.

Unintelligent "smart" System

Doesn't do anything intelligent. A normal thermostat that actually follows you life patterns would be much better. If you set a normal thermostat with a proper schedule you'll get the same or better results rather than finding the POD cranking heat or cooling at incorrect times.
I had better learning algorithms 15 years ago. I would definitely buy something else in the future.

Worthless. The device name is "Gaming TV" and I say a hundred different ways: "Set volume to 15 on Gaming TV" and it always answers "try again and say the device name". Out of 1000 tries, it worked once. I even can stand right over it and it is terrible. More work then getting up and finding the remote control.

Hello there, Steven. We appreciate your feedback on Nest Mini, and we’re sorry to hear about your issue with the performance of its Google Assistant.
A range issue or wireless interference can affect the performance of your display. Sometimes it may pass the connection test during setup, but will struggle to stay connected if it’s just a bit too far away. If your display is mounted too far from your Wi-Fi router, you may need to extend your Wi-Fi network’s range using an extender, boosters or additional Wi-Fi access points.
Also, it may be helpful to retrain your Google Assistant to better recognize your voice. See the steps below on how to do this: - On your phone or tablet, open the Google Home app - At the top right, tap your Profile or initial and then Assistant settings and then Voice Match. - Tap Teach your Assistant your voice again and then Retrain.

After owning two of these units, as well as a Nest Home, all three devices starting doing the same thing. After a long delay, all respond with "There was a problem" or "There was a glitch". It takes multiple trys to get a response. Search for this online and you'll find many posts about this going back over the past year or more. Google's official recommendation of factory resetting and ten reboots does nothing. A complete disappointment.

This device doesn't work properly. I have two other Google home devices, different models, they are OK. But Google nest mini keeps losing wifi connection pretty much every day. Google has been aware of this problem almost a year now, but has not been able or willing to fix the problem. So, i just keep unplugging and reconnecting this nest mini on a daily basis. It's a waste of money, I will switch to Alexa.

After Google discontinued Google Play Music, there is no way to play your own music collection with voice commands without paying a monthly fee. So, google has downgraded this device to a normal bluetooth speaker overnight, taking away a feature that was offered at the time I bought it. Very indecent.

Hi john, we hear you and we appreciate your feedback. We’re sorry to hear your experience with playing your own music collection using your Nest Mini.
We understand that free access to music is awesome. You can still play music using YouTube Music and Spotify for free, but you'll hear a station of songs inspired by the song, album, or artist. You may not get specific songs, albums, and/or artists, but you can ask for music based on genre, mood or activity. You can link your music services and pick a music service as your default to enjoy music from popular music services by artist, song, genre, album, playlist, mood or activity. This default service will be used first when possible. Please see the steps below: - Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or linked to the same account as your speaker or display. - Open the Google Home app. - At the top right, tap your account. - Verify that the Google Account shown is the one linked to your speaker or display. To switch accounts, tap another account or Add another account. - Go back to the home screen, and at the top left, tap Add, tap Music. - To choose your default service, tap the music service you'd like to use. Assistant will use this service when you say “Hey Google, play music.” Here are the list of music apps and partners you can use with your Nest Mini: https://assistant.google.com/explore/c/10/

google sent me a free Google mini for being subscribed to youtube premium. It has not gone more than 2 days without asking to be reconnected to home app. Most of time takes multi times to connect to bluetooth. This is a very unreliable and even though it was free from company that made it, not worth the trouble

Hi,
We appreciate your feedback. We're sorry to hear of the connectivity and unlinking issues with your Nest Mini.
We´re aware of an issue regarding Nest Mini that may notify you in the ways below: -When asking the device a query it will reply asking the user to sign in via the app. -The app will give a notification in the feed that the device was unlinked from the users account.
Your Nest Mini is most likely experiencing the same issue, and we want you to know we're working hard to resolve the issue as soon as we can.
Regarding the Bluetooth issue, we'd like to recommend a few steps that you can perform to try and fix it:
- Reboot both devices then try pairing and connecting again. - Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app. - Perform a factory data reset on the both Google Nest Mini devices and try pairing and connecting again. - You can also pair the Google Nest Mini devices with another Bluetooth device, and check if the issue only happens on the first Bluetooth device.

Google apparently stole some of the tech from Sonos, so now the group speaker functionality is broken. I only bought these speakers for that function, so now I have a paper weight. Will also post this on the non-mini speaker.

Hi HulkHogan, thanks for sharing your feedback with us about your experience with using the Nest Mini, and we're sorry to hear that it keeps disconnecting. We understand how difficult it can be to deal with connectivity issues, and this is definitely not the user experience we want to share with you.
There’s a possibility that your Nest Mini is having trouble connecting to Google, and we suggest trying these workaround below that may improve your experience: - Check your Wi-Fi network for possible congestion. Disconnecting some of your connected devices may help free up some bandwidth space. - Check the distance between the Nest speaker and your router. Ensure that it is within a line of sight from your router. - Check for wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or appliances and devices nearby. - Restart Nest speaker and router to refresh the connection. - Reset your Nest speaker. On the side of your device, switch the mic off. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.
If the speaker still keeps on disconnecting after trying the simple steps above, we’d be more than happy to guide you with further troubleshooting and investigation here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Nests worked well, until early January when they list a lawsuit. Once this occurred, they forced an "update" that has destroyed their ability to work with one another and with most streaming apps. It is advisable to avoid these products until this is resolved by Google.
