The speaker sound is slightly improved. The only drawback is that the charger is no longer a standard USB as it was in the last generation of google home mini.

Try to reset Nest Mini by switching the mic off located on the side of your device. The lights will turn orange. Press and hold the center of the Nest Mini, where the lights are on top. After 5 seconds, your device will begin the factory reset process. Continue to hold for about 10 seconds more, until a sound confirms that the device is resetting.

Not so smart

The Mini works kind of, but is frustrating to set up to do everything it advertises to do. Google doesn't really support their products very well. My GE C smart lights don't work with each of the three Google and one Nest Minis that I have. I also have one Sonos One speaker that is semi-Google compliant, which does a better job controlling these lights. After some long troubleshooting sessions with Google and GE, Google said oh-well, your Mini is out of warranty. GE actually sent some replacement bulbs which didn't work with the Google Minis but did work with the Sonos One and with the GE app on my smartphone.

Great and cheap smart speaker

The bass is better and it has more led indicators on the top of the speaker so you know what you’re pressing.

Also nice that you're able to hang this on a wall so it doesn't clutter your counter top space. One nit picky thing is that sometimes it doesn't always respond to your "Hey Google" prompt, so I end up saying it twice...
