Prior to the Google Nest we had issues with buffering and sound cutting out on our Apple TVs. The Google Nest solved those problems.

Terrible system! Coming from Google Hub, Worked well but bad range. This system has good range, but has many problems staying connected to many devises throughout the house. TVs loose connection everything you turn them off because Nest users 2.4 / 5g band that switches automatically confuses connected devise. Tebbible!

Hi, thanks for your feedback. We're sorry to hear of the disappointing experience you have with Nest Wifi.

Firstly, if you're using a 3rd party router or a modem/router combo, we recommend setting it in bridge mode and disabling its Wi-Fi functionality to prevent a possible Double NAT as it may cause connectivity issues with your connected devices.

Nest Wifi devices keep it simple by automatically choosing the band that gives you the best Wi-Fi and it uses the same name for both the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. Both radio bands are active simultaneously. Keep in mind that your personal devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop, etc.) will connect to only one radio band at any given time. Based on the device capabilities, Nest Wifi will attempt to select the band that will deliver the best performance for your device.

If you still experience connectivity issues, please feel free to reach out to our support team for further help here: https://support.google.com/wifi/gethelp Nest

    Constant drops. Smart Home's nightmare.

I had tried the latest Netgear Orbi, TPlink M9, Hitron, and few others recently before getting this Nest Wifi. I prefer any of them to this Nest WiFi. It would loose connection at random times, even when the device is less than 10 feet away from the puck and normally getting full signal. This may be acceptable on a smartphone for sending emails or text but not in a Smart home where you need to have a light turned on immediately but instead you hear "hang on while I get connected". A minute later it works. I would wake up in the middle of the night to find one of the mesh units offline and have to power cycle to get it working again. There are no logs to tell you what's going on. My old router still works without any of the issues Nest Wifi was having. Did numerous resets and reinstalls suggested by google support to no avail. Next time I'll wait for others to do Google's Beta testing before buying their latest product.

I tried the Eero system, which helped a little, but I recently upgraded to a 1gig connection and Eero was only giving me about 100Mbps over wifi, so I wanted something different. I ended up exchanging it for this Google Nest system, which is not any better. Paying for my 1gig connection, the Google Nest shows the network speeds are 824Mbps download and 794Mbps upload, so it appears to be getting pretty decent speeds. I'd be thrilled if I were actually getting that over wifi. However, when I run a wifi speed test, even standing right next to the main router, I'm lucky to get 150Mbps. Next to the main router it's been more like 120Mbps, and the rest of the house is 60-90Mbps - with the main router and two add-on points. Google Nest has 824Mbps download from my internet, but can only muster the courage to provide me with 60-120Mbps via wifi?! Yeah, I'm not too happy with this. So far, both Eero and Nest have disappointed. Why advertise speeds you can't come close to hitting? Not worth the $350 price tag. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because of the easy setup and the small form factor, which I like.

      Hi Rusty,

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We're very sorry that Nest Wifi couldn't deliver the performance you expected. We understand how frustrating this can be. We're always working to make our products and services better for our customers.

Although there can be several reasons such as congested bandwidths, the fact that you can only get about 150Mbps when standing next to the router, while Nest Wifi router shows 824Mbps doesn't sound right. If you can contact us here : https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow?hl=en
we'd be happy to take a look and do our best to resolve the issue to get your internet up to the speed you need. Nest

Get the Netgear Nighthawk. I wanted to like the nest. After multiple calls to Google customer support I got it working (customer support is great). Had to continuously reset or unplug my modem to get this working. Other issue, if you need multiple LAN ports don’t get this, you have 2 and one is the Ethernet connection. I replaced it with the Nighthawk and was up and running in 20 minutes with no calls to customer support.

Got this three weeks ago and setup was easy and worked well. THEN a few day ago it all went bad. Continues to loose connection to internet, it’s other add on points, and always goes down. Reset system many times and seems ok for a few minutes and then back to issues. Factory reset all of them and rebuilt network three times, didn’t help. None of the answers from Google work or make sense. Why would I need to change DNS or NAT when it worked perfect for two weeks. It did make a great cardio device as I got in more steps going up and down three flight of steps for two days messing with the points than I normally do in a month. Read tons of info and it may be related to a firmware update. But really I don’t care why, just want it to work. Took it back and went back to my old Wifi which was at least stable. If you value you money and sanity DO NOT buy this.

    Expensive door stopper!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

One of my access point stopped working completely. Tried troubleshooting through support but nothing works. No lights bilking at all and the access point is not discoverable. The power supply is working fine and the access point does get warm. The other 2 access point are working fine. The unit is over 1 year and out of warranty so google is not interested in fixing the issue. I can't prove that the google update caused my access point to die on me. Considering how expensive these devices are I am disappointed in google product quality not made to last. It s better to by cheap products at least you wont feel the pain of owning an expensive door stopper. Lesson learned, think before buying expensive product from Google. Will be replacing Google access points from my house soon.

I loved this wifi set up....for about 2 years. Everything worked great and had tons of functionality. Unfortunately my router is malfunctioning and google tech support can't figure out why. I would normally get speeds around 230 mbps and now its around 80. I spent hours on the phone yesterday and still don't have a fix. Since it's now passed the warranty period I am out all of that money and forced to make another router purchase. Very frustrating given the price of this set up. I'm supposed to hear back from them within 24 hours. If they can get it working I will update this review.

Expected Wifi Speeds are just not there

We have fiber internet with speeds through our isp modem of 1000mbps+ with wifi speeds of 400-500mbps but have a few dead spots in the house. I purchased the sytems with intentions on getting atleast 400mbps but Have only maxed at 120mbps over wifi. From all of the reviews I have read and different youtube videos you will only get up to 180-200 max mbps with this, which may be great for some. For the price I think the system could be better.

Hi Datl, thanks for sharing the details of your review about the Nest Wifi, and we’re sorry to hear that you’re not getting the speeds that you expected.

We suggest checking the placement of your Wi-Fi router and points, which are important to have reliable Wi-Fi throughout your home. As a general rule, points work best when they’re no more than two rooms away from each other. If the far end of your house has weak Wi-Fi, don’t put a Wifi point in that exact spot. Instead, put it part way in that direction. Try to place it in an elevated position like on a shelf. It may be helpful to try the following steps:
      - Repositioning the points to avoid obstructions like walls, doors, and aquariums can improve performance.
      - Make sure all unused devices are off and not draining bandwidth with large downloads.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as microwave ovens, refrigerators or other equipment.
      - Restart your network.

If the speed issue persists, we recommend reaching out to us and we’d be happy to help and guide you through troubleshooting and isolation, here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

After using a few months having issues and the support is horrible. We have 400 to 600 gb service and last few weeks we were blaming provider like google does. Well after a tech came out and showed me their modem was sending out just under 500 gigs to Google router and after google router it was sending out 90. Spent last two hours trying to resolve issue and the support is junk. Buy something better with good support.

      Hi chip,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sorry about the connection issue you have with your Nest Wifi and your poor experience with our support team. This is not the kind of experience we want to leave you with.

There are many reasons why your internet connection drops or might appear slow. Incorrect setups, distance of router and points and their placements and presence of a double NAT are some of the possible reasons.

Even though you may have already contacted our support team, we're hoping you will give us another opportunity to help you with the issue to improve your experience. Please feel free to reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/wifi/contactflow Nest

Not as simple as it seems. Buyer Beware!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Please be aware that setup may not be as simple as advertised and that the support from google is severely lacking and the product is such that working through the settings yourself is impossible. I purchased the google Nest Wifi router and point package. It purports to be simply plug and play. This is not necessarily true. I plugged it in and managed to get the router working without fuss. Unfortunately this is where the positive experience ends. After spending a few hours turning power points on and off, disconnecting and reconnecting cables and running factory resets as recommended by the google home app help function I requested help on the google support site. It wouldn't let me request a callback or a direct chat continually telling me there was an error in my form, so I resorted to facebook chat. After again running a number of routine resets and some diagnostic checks, google support suggested I contact my ISP to setup my ISP supplied wireless router (typical of all Australian ISP's) into bridge mode to ensure the two wireless networks were not interfering with each other. I did and for the 100th time tried to connect the wireless point with no luck. I am taking it back to JB Hifi today to exchange for a different, hopefully functional and easy to use product.
