Bulky and limited use ability
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was surprised how clunky this system seemed to be - after installing this on the door, it stuck out like a sore thumb - very disappointed. And this is really limited on usage - if I lock my door as I always do on the main knob, I still have to unlock this device so it saves me no time from the old way which used the same key as the knob. Operationally, this seems nice if you want to keep your door knob unlocked so you can allow the codes to be assigned for individual entry (so you can track it), but this defeats having the EXTRA protection of a deadbolt. I love technology, but this really is a let down when the reality of a device that you still have to take two actions to enter a home if you want two locks. This would make better sense if it were part of an integrated door lock set that had knob and handle with the locks for each that could be unlocked and locked simultaneously. I do like that I can unlock this with a phone from my car, but I still have to insert a key into the door handle - which really saves no time and is a far more expensive option than a deadbolt with a lock with a matching key. I literally saved no time entering my home considering I have to fiddle with the phone in the process to unlock. Consider this ONLY if you want to track entry - but you will still have to give those people a key to your home for the handle or knob you use OR you can leave that unlocked and put all your faith on this thing. I'd rather spend the money for a great quality lock tandem of knob and deadbolt for less money. You will still have to give people your key to enter the building.

My experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is good but the batteries seem to die pretty quick in it. Not sure if it's the rechargeable batteries I'm using or not. The batteries are only a few months old.

Buyer Beware... could be a good product for some
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this to remotely maintain my front door access. It was simple enough to install, good directions. The first set I bought connected and worked for about an hour. Them I got a message that the door and connect loss connectivity. From then on it was a nightmare, I was unable to connect to the nest connect in this package. Thinking this was just a defective unit and it seemed to work fine in the beginning. So I returned it and got another unit. This one was even worse, it took hours to connect to the nest connect and it would never connect to the lock. I could never access the connect again to finish the setup, this was even with support from nest tech support. I ended up returning the second unit and just buying the Yale Assurance lock with the August connectivity package and so far it has worked very well.

Avoid this dumpster fire of a product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because I had the Yale smart lock and figured “this one has Nest, i.e. Google as a partner - it has to be even better!”. Boy, was I wrong. Here’s what to expect if you do go ahead with buying it: no indication of door open - only lock / unlock (worried someone locked the door while it’s opened? Tough luck). Connectivity sucks - you need a device called Nest Connect, which sucks at the one task it was designed to do. Want to use your smart lock from your phone via bluetooth, like the original Yale lock? Look elsewhere. Interested in smart home integrations - don’t bother. So, if you want an expensive look that hase Yale in the name, but none of the quality it implies -you found it. If you want a good smart lock, just buy the original Yale one.

Good Item
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the item is a good buy but it had a lot more hardware than I had expected. This isn't a bad thing; just a surprise. Additionally, the app for it is pretty easy to use and set up, which is nice. In the box you receive Nest Connect as well, which is nice. It would have been annoying if I had to buy that separately. Nest Connect was exceptionally easy to set up. So overall a good product. Just be aware there is a lot of hardware involved.

We love it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Installing it was a bit difficult since our door was not cut exactly the same and eventually had to get a carpenter. After that though, we love it. One of the issues (which is why I gave it only 4 stars) is that we have a double door and you need to sort of push it close before this locks. Sometimes if its not like really well shut, the lock doesnt work.

Better options available
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like everything else Google makes, it just gets stale. It is using the nest app which is slowly becoming obsolete. I got rid of my nest locks for the Yale assure lock 2. Pretty much the same physical lock, but with fingerprint and also a door position sensor, and full of robust features. Definitely a better option for this price point.

Lock the front door!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great door. Only problem so far is that the re-set button is not convenient. Bought a new modem and had to remove the lock to re-set. Those teeny tiny screws were not easy.

Sold me online access but only delivers offline co
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really wish I would have gone with the august locks since they will Auto Unlock when your location shows you at home. My other problem is how often these locks go offline. I also should be able to see an approximate battery level but don’t see that anywhere. One really nice aspect of being able to give people their individual codes, but that requires the lock to be online.

Posted .Hi Nute, thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about the connectivity issue with your Nest x Yale Lock, and that it fell short of meeting your expectations.
Your Nest x Yale Lock can't connect to your Wi-Fi directly. It relies on the Nest Connect, that came with your lock, to establish connection with your network and the Nest app. If you're willing to try, we recommend bringing the Nest Connect closer to your Nest x Yale Lock. Ideally within a clear line of sight as Connect needs to be close enough to both your lock and your Wi-Fi router to maintain a wireless connection.
If connectivity issues persist, even after following the steps we shared with you, then we may need to take a much closer look at your Nest x Yale Lock and understand what may be causing it. We'd love to work on improving your experience, if you can reach out to us on the Google Nest Support page: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Absolute piece of garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this lock for a few years now for a property I manage remotely and it is constantly going offline. The WIFI is fine, the placement of the hub is fine. At least once a week it goes offline, which usually requires a reset of the devices. It frequently tells us the batteries are low, even though we just replaced them and when we test the batteries they are at full power. At least once a month it goes offline and locks our guests out, which requires a hard reset of everything and causes me to have some very angry guests. This process of doing a hard reset is very time consuming and error prone, often taking well over an hour to get it back online again. I've been calling support for years and they keep having us do the same process over and over again. These locks are clearly defective and need to be fixed. I finally asked for a replacement but I'm out of warranty and out of luck. I will be tossing this lock in the garbage where it belongs and buying one from a different company that actually works. I have their cameras too and have a similar experience with those going offline all the time and seeing to be reset. I will never buy another Nest product after my experience with their flakey products.

Posted .Hi Coolerkid9090, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to learn that you’ve been having connectivity issues with Nest x Yale Lock, and that our support fell short in providing the help you needed.
Your Google Nest × Yale Lock connects to the internet through a Google Nest Connect or Google Nest Guard in your home. Connectivity issues may be caused by several reasons such as Wi-Fi network congestion, distance of the device from the router, wireless interference with other Wi-Fi hotspots or devices nearby and other Wi-FI settings.
We value your feedback as it will greatly help us in improving our products and services. We’re still hoping that you will continue using your Nest x Yale Lock, and if you need assistance, feel free to contact us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp

Poor Quality & Difficult Installation
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the price and brand name (Nest), this lock is designed poorly. Installation is "easy" but, in reality, was very frustrating. Unless your old strike plate is aligned perfectly with the Nest lock, the electronic lock will NOT allow you to set up the lock. It will give you an error until you fix the strike plate position. You'll have to use a chisel to re-position the strike plate. I also ran into problems with plugging the cable into it's connector inside the lock – if you fail to plug the cable very accurately and tightly into the connector, the lock may only partly work (will talk and beep but the keypad won't respond to touch). I thought I had the cable plugged in well, but realized later that I had to really push it in to get the issue resolved. Overall, this lock is a beautiful design but you may run into frustrating installation issues unless you're a handyman or locksmith. (Sidenote: I also would NOT order this product through Best Buy again...they offered me free installation but getting an appointment took weeks of frustrating calls to the customer service line and many confusing emails.)

Batteries keep dying and connect never worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this for use at a vacation home in 2018. The batteries keep dying in between visits to the house and despite having Best Buy install it, the connect feature has never worked. I originally suspected this was might have been the cause of the batteries draining, and disconnected it. I have literally been locked out of the house on 7 different occasions. It doesn't seem to matter what quality of battery I use. Ironically I have a different smart lock at home and replace the batteries on average 2x a year. After best buy installed it I was directed to go to the manufacturer when it wasn't working properly and spent 2 hours and 45 mins on hold the first time before having to hang up due to another appointment. The second time I was on the phone for 1 hour and 38 mins before again having to hang up. I haven't been at the house and had that kind of free time to call again, so I'm basically going to be throwing it out and replacing it to ensure I don't keep getting locked out.

Posted .The Nest app will send you a notification that it’s time to change the batteries before they reach a critical level. You’ll get a second notification when they’re very low. Further information about this can be found in the following article:

DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this lock for our new home and had it installed by Geek Squad. It was installed and working. Randomly after about 6 hours, the lock went offline. It randomly came back online the next day for 5 minutes and went offline again. No worries,I thought, because Nest assures that the codes still work when the lock is offline, so we could trouble shoot over the weekend. The codes did work until 3 days later. I am certain that the code worked yesterday while offline and the same code is now not working. We are completely locked out of our house. I called Nest and they said the only option is to call a locksmith and they will not reimburse us, but they’ll send us another faulty lock if we’d like! Ridiculous do NOT buy

Posted .Hey there, KayleeB. We're sorry to hear that you had a frustrating experience with your Nest x Yale Lock. Your feedback on the codes not working is appreciated. We recommend checking the Privacy Mode settings of your device. With Privacy Mode, you can disable the keypad so that no one can use a passcode to unlock your door. When someone tries to wake up the keypad, the lock will say, “Please try again at another time.” If you've already disabled this feature or if the issue still persists, we recommend that you reach out to our support specialists.
