    Never stays connected.

Extremely frustrating setup, would get network errors and would not add to my google home setup. Had to spend hours on the phone with support. My other "google products" setup seamlessly, however since this is a "nest/yale" product it has not been the same experience. Have had for a few months now and it constantly looses connection with the network. Only fix is to restart/reboot everything and i can't rely on it to be connected while out of town long periods. I dont even have the heart to try and call support to get the same runaround troubleshooting fixes and will be replacing with a different brand.

    Garbage

Had it for 2 years. Everytime you change the batteries you have to factory reset the lock. The one time it stayed connected, the code no longer works and you have to factory reset anyway. After factory resetting and reinstalling the entire lock, i set the master code and it completes setup. I go to put in the code i set and sure enough, it doesnt recognize the code. Wouldnt recommend to anyone who wants a lock that you dont have to completely take apart for it to not work anyway.

Hi there, thanks for sharing your insights. We're sorry to hear about your difficult experience setting up Nest x Yale Lock, and that it goes offline. If you haven't tried troubleshooting the connectivity issue yet, here are some recommended steps you can try out:
      - Check for possible congestion in your Wi-Fi network. Removing some of your connected devices can help free up some bandwidth space. You may then check to see if you will still experience the same connectivity issue.
      - Check for possible sources of interference such as the thick walls and appliances in your home.

    Unable to connect

I was excited to add this to our Nest "ecosystem" but was unable, despite several hours with technical support, to get this to connect. We have several Nest products but this one just doesn't want to work in our environment. After some Internet research, I know that we are not alone and suggest waiting until the product is improved or a competitor releases a better product.

    Battery Life SUCKS

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've had this door lock installed for almost 2 months now and have had to replace the batteries at LEAST once a week (if not twice.) Its to the extent we stopped locking and unlocking it unless we're going to bed and the battery still drains. Very disappointing as my last door lock lasted almost 2 years on the same batteries with no issues AND we constantly went in and out so we used the battery 5x than this one.

Terrible product. Would not advise anyone to purchase this item. The Nest Connector would not connect to my Wi-Fi network and after going through all the typical trouble shooting steps I was advised by Google tech support that the product I purchased was defective. I returned the product to Best Buy and was required to pay a $50 return fee as my return was outside the 2-week return period

Expensive but has a nice picture. Very clear. Paid for professional installation through Nest but he wasn't a professional. Didn't really know what he was doing. And I have to change the batteries every 2 weeks. Nothing is forcing resistance to make the lock work harder. Nothing blocking it or rubbing against it. So that's not an excuse.

BESTBUY Sold Me the Wrong Lock; unfit for this use

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Wasted hours of time , then returned the product... In an oldstyle conventional deadbolt, you could adjust it to slide either right or left to accomodate yourdoor situation. I needed the deadbolt to slide to the left. NOWHERE in the product instructions or online or printed material does it say that THIS product will only work if the deadbolt is sliding to the right. I was on-line with NEST-Yale tech support for a very long time before they told me this. The salesman at Best Buy apparently did not know this and recommended this product to me. By the way, I thought that the internal components of this lock were not as beefy and strong as other locks - disappointing for a product costing approx $250.

      Hi Crispyy,

We appreciate your feedback. We´re sorry to hear of your connectivity issue with the Nest x Yale Lock.

Your Nest x Yale Lock can't connect to your Wi-Fi network directly and it relies on Google Nest Connect to establish connection with your network and the Nest app. The connectivity issue may be caused by distance between the lock, your Wi-Fi router, and Google Nest Connect as well as some form of network interference.

We also suggest making sure that your Nest Connect is within range (~50ft direct line of sight) of Nest x Yale Lock and Wi-Fi router. This range will be shorter if there is possible interference such as thick walls, mirrors and windows. Such interference can be competing signals from other wireless devices, microwave, etc. We recommend observing the distance needed for connection by moving around Nest Connect and the Wi-Fi router.

Another step you can take is to restart your router and wireless devices, including the Nest Connect should refresh the IP addresses assigned to each device to re-establish a connection.

Your Nest x Yale Lock carries a lifetime limited warranty for finish and mechanical and two years warranty for electronics. We'd love to learn more about the issue you are having, in order for us to identify what may be causing it and improve your experience. Your support needs are always important to us and you can always reach out to us here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp Nest

    Lock yourself out!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought the Yale Lock back in late October. It worked without issue for a few months, until about a week ago. I got a call from a contractor trying to get in my home that said the pin I had assigned wasn't working. I got to leave work, to find that only the master code was able to unlock the door. The next day, the touch panel became completely unresponsive. After troubleshooting, and attempting to reset the device, a red light started showing on the interior indicator light. After that, I received no response from the lock, no matter what I did. I contacted Nest support, who was helpful, but could not resolve the issue. They have to kick me over to Yale to replace the product. I am still waiting to hear from Yale. What a nightmare. If you want to lock yourself out, or even your kids. I highly recommend this product.

Do not buy, if you have an issue you are screwed.

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Received a faulty lock, draining batteries in 30hrs for a set of 4 AA. Spent hours with Nest support to establish the obvious. Had to have a nest pro come in to 'prove it', which cost 100+. In the end, duh, lock hardware was bad. Then get a replacement, it installs ok (though they don't tell you anywhere you HAVE to use a 2.4 ghz wifi network), then it goes offline after 2 days and never goes back on. This is where I currently am, no real solution that doesn't involve even more of my time. Bought 6 Nest products for new home, the experience has been horrific. Do not buy, if you have an issue, Nest support will fail you badly and waste both your time and money.

      Hi MT11,

Thanks for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear of the connectivity issue as well as your poor experience with the customer care. We understand how important it is to keep your Nest x Yale Lock connected to Wi-Fi as it allows you to utilize many of its features.

Nest x Yale Lock can't connect to Wi-Fi directly, it comes with Nest Connect as a border router to connect the lock to your Wi-Fi network. Please make sure Nest Connect is set up and connected to your Wi-Fi and Nest x Yale Lock is connected to Nest Connect via Thread Connectivity. If you have already set up and established the connection with the Wi-Fi, we recommend ensuring the distance between the devices is not too far:
      - If Nest Connect is too far away from your lock, your lock will be offline in the app but Nest Connect will be online.
      - If Nest Connect is too far away from your Wi-Fi router, both Nest Connect and your lock will be offline in the app.

If you'd like to give us another chance to help you out with the issue, please reach out again here: https://support.google.com/googlenest/contactflow Nest

If you would have asked me what I thought of this lock a few months ago I would have said I loved it. Today having it for 1.5 years… It’s a waste of money. I started having issues with it and it no longer works. I called Yale and they said there’s nothing they can do but offer me 20 percent off another device. Unless you don’t mind spending 300 dollars every 18 months for a new device I would look somewhere else.

Bought this as my birthday present on March 23, 2018. I was supposed to get FREE geeksquad installation. I scheduled my appointment for April 3, 2018... no one called or showed up. I got an email to reschedule, so I rescheduled for April 10, 2018. The installation guy called around 10am and said he was on his way to pick up the device. Never called again and never showed up. Just horrible service from Geek squad. Long story short I called customer service several times and was hunged up 5 TIMES!!! No one was of any help. I had to drive to a Best Buy to get this resolved. I was in the store for about an Hour and they were only able to apologize and reschedule me until May 1, 2018.... I bought this in March 23, 2018... Abhorrent service from Best Buy!!!!!!!!

Had a Nest Yale lock for 2 years and loved it. All of sudden the batteries would drain after 2-3 days of replacement, After frequently changing batteries over a few weeks I purchased a brand new Nest-Yale lock. After installing the new lock i am still experiencing the same issue. The battery life is lasting between 2-3 days with the lock being used less then 3 times a day.

critical design flaw: Reset button requires remove

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

we made the cardinal sin of changing our internet password after the nest lock was installed. of course, the entire system was knocked offline, but all other elements were easy to reset. the nest thermostat reconnected to the internet with a simple use of the face dial. The nest guard has a reset button on the bottom outside part. I simply deleted and reestablished the exterior video cameras from the app. However, the locks were dysfunctional for nearly a week until I could get a technician to come out to the house and I had to pay to get him to reinstall the nest lock. The problem is that the reset button which will ensure the nest lock goes back to factory reset so I could reinstall it to the app and the wifi is physically located inside the body of the lock and requires that take one complete face off, removing it from the bolt. This should have been an obvious design flaw before going to market. Now that it's out, it must be re-engineered. The most logical and industry standard for a reset button is on the button, if necessary, using a long straight pin like the one that comes with the lock to remove the battery cover. please redesign the lock with a new location for the reset button that can be accessed without removing the lock from the door and tell me. I have 5 and I need 2 more. We run a boarding business. But I will not buy another lock until this critical design flaw is corrected.

Purchased 4 of these units. One of them has a bad software bug and starts alarming at random times every week. Unit provides a tamper error each time. Have contacted vendor and Google multiple times while under warranty and they stated a software update was pushed to fix the problem. Unit has only gotten worse and they now refuse to stand behind the warranty and replace. 3 of the units were great. The 4th has been a disaster.

I hate products that cost me more money and time than they are worth, this one achieves both. August smart locks are expensive and unreliable. The remote unlock/lock feature is why I bought this product so I could lock and unlock for my kids/cleaners/visitors remotely. That function no longer works and the post purchase support is non existent, so I have a $300 deadbolt....cool. I have other locks to buy, won't be one of these. Tech support is almost non existent.
