This lock is A-OK with me

The lock itself it unremarkable. It just does what any electronic lock should. Prompts you for the PIN, and if you get it right, it opens up. I do like the fact that anyone can lock the door from the outside, just by pressing the Yale button once.
The app is equally intuitive. If the current state of the lock is open, then pressing the main button in the app closes the lock. Press it again and it opens again. Simple. However, the app also performs a history function that appeals to the control freak in me. It records a time stamped event, each time the state of the lock is changed, and also who changed it, if it knows. It records even manual flips of the lock state from inside the door. I'm not sure that all that is really necessary, but I like it.
A word of warning. The app keeps you logged in, so that means that your phone is now a set of housekeys, for anyone who happens to be holding it. Even bad guys. That doesn't upset me. It is just one more reason not to lose my phone.
A common fear of using this kind of lock is that bad actors will be listening in, as your phone communicates with the lock. But it doesn't work that way. Your phone talks to your Wi-Fi, using encryption. then your Wi-Fi transfers the commands to the Nest unit that comes with the lock, also encrypted. Then, finally, the command is relayed from the Nest to the actual lock. I believe this is done over Bluetooth, and is also encrypted. But even if someone was trying to fool the lock into accepting the previous signal, to open the lock the next time, that wouldn't work, because the Nest and the Lock change their code each time the lock is used. That makes it very difficult to do a man-in-the-middle attack on the lock.

Very happy with these Yale locks and how seamlessly they integrate with the Nest ecosystem. We now have 4 of these on each external door of our home and find them easy to use. My 12 year old daughter and wife love the ability to quickly lock the house with the Yale button on the way out. Even our parents are able to operate these with ease and we enjoy the ability to assign temporary codes to friends or other house sitters.
The price is high, especially if you have several doors as we do, but the quality is high and we haven't had to do anything but change the AA batteries every 6-12 months, depending on use.

I have several smart connected devices at home and thought this smart lock would be nice to try. Overall, Nest as its well known they build high quality products and truley smart!!. Before you jump into setup watch Nest setup videos on Youtube and also ready the manual provided in the package for better and no mistakes. Mine was installed without needing to drill or make any modification to my door and was simle and took about 15 minutes to finish it, setting on smart device though Nest app is simple and piece of cake. My final words are this door lock is funcitional and smart and easy to use. No voice control as of yet and make sure to read the manual and watch Nest videos on Youtube.

I would have given this 5 stars but the first one I received the touch keypad that lights up never lit up again after the first day I installed it. At night time, couldn't see anything on the keypad it was a total defect. Best buy of course took a return and I ordered another one which works correctly. It's super easy to use and I love that you can unlock and lock from your phone in the nest app. It also has auto lock so I literally never lock my door when I close it, it will do so itself in 60 seconds. Look and performance this has to be in my opinion the best on the market. As long as its not defective its amazing! Set up wasnt that hard I did reference youtube video from someone who broke it down very easily.

I purchased this lock to add to the many features of my smart home. I wanted a lock that would work with my Google Assistant and have that feature to be able to say a command and the door I have this lock installed locked. Took me about 20 minutes to install this lock and get it functioning as it is designed to do. At first glance I thought the keypad was going to be a bit on the chinsy side and to my amazement, I found the keypad to be well built and solid. Love the fact that it has a metal frame for added duribility. It was also very easy to set up with my existing Nest account and get it intergraded into my Google Home. I further more love the fact that I can unlock the door from my Nest App from down the road before I pull into my driveway and the door is already unlocked for me to walk into my home after a hard day from work instead of fumbling around for the key and especially if you forgot to leave the front door light on. I also love the fact that you can program and set different users with their own unlock code and are able to see who used such unlock code(s). There are just a few flaws with this lock but that is electronics for you, and to me they are not enough for me to rate this lock any less than what rating I gave it.
Flaw 1. Runs only on batteries. (Batteries that you will need to change out when they run low.)
Flaw 2. Must use the supplied pin or use a paperclip to open the cover to the battery compartment. I would have prefered a screw to hold the cover.
Flaw 2.1 If you happen to let the batteries run out, ignore the low battery warning that will display on the keypad and on the Nest App, AND not change out the batteries when you had some power left in them, you could use a 9V battery and touch the battery terminals on the bottom of the keypad to give the lock emergency power to allow you to use your pin to unlock the lock incase you were locked out of your home. That means keeping a spare 9V in your vehicle for said issue. But where this is a flaw, it is also a redundency plan to allow you to gain access to your home.
Flaw 2.2 Battery cover is plastic. I would have preferred it to be a more durrable material like alluminum.
Flaw 3. Will not unlock with the "OK Google, unlock the ____ Door" command and that is understandible for security reasons.
Flaw 4. And this is the last of the flaws I have found. If the network in your home is down, the lock has to be manually operated by entering the code on the keypad or by turning the deadbolt knob on the lock from the inside of your home. This also applies if there is a power outage whereas the nest hub along side with the network would be also down. (I have a battery backup unit in my place but that will keep my network working for only a few hours.)

I got this specific device to tie in to the rest of the Nest items in our house. We have 3 cameras, the doorbell, and now this lock. It's really great having it all in one application on my phone. We can let the cleaners in with a specific code that's valid during certain times of the day. That really helps with security and whatnot. It's also really convenient if you're having people come by to work on things at the house. If you're not there, simply unlock the door remotely, or give them their own code. I also like the auto lock feature, where it re-locks after 5 minutes. Now my front door is guaranteed to be locked when I go to bed. Sometimes I forgot to do that with a regular deadbolt.

This is easy to install, looks great, and functions are expected.
Installation took no more than 30 minutes, and I love the fact that it uses the same app as my Nest thermostat. The best part is that I can issue a code to a specific individual that is separate from the main code my wife and I use.
The other thing to note is that this does not require a separate Ethernet cable from the hub to the router or switch, like other smart hubs such as the Philips Hue requires. You just need a spare outlet somewhere near the router and that's it. Another perk of this unit.
Despite the price tag, I still highly recommend this product.

Easy to use, looks very good on doors. This is my second one. Works seamlessly with the Nest app. I wish Nest wasn’t sold to Google. They were doing so great but you can still use the Nest app. Highly recommend.

I have been researching smart locks for some time now. I keep coming back to this one because of the reviews. I made the purchase and I couldn't be happier.
The first thing I am going to talk about is a warning from me to you all. If you are replacing your door lock like most people are doing, make sure that the deadbolt on your existing lock moves freely into the hole of the frame. I usually have to push my door in just a little to lock the deadbolt. This lock will sense the slightest pressure and give an error code (and it talks) that the lock is stuck or the door did not lock. It will try to lock several times, which makes a bunch of weird noise, and could wear down the locking mechanism. I purchased a small grinder for my drill and made the hole bigger for the deadbolt to move in and out with zero pressure.
The next is the depth of the hole. Make sure that it is deep enough for the smart lock to extend all the way. If not.....you will again get the message that it did not lock. I also had to use the grinder to make the hole deeper.
On to the lock itself. This thing is nice! It looks good and is feature rich. There are two prongs at the base of the lock for a 9V battery in case the lock batteries are dead. You shouldn't have to worry about that issue, because it will alert you that the four AA batteries are low, way before it dies.
I already have the Nest app due to running two Nest thermostats. Plugged the Nest connect in and connected it to the app. I then connected the door lock. All hooked up with no issues and within mins. You can use all the features and settings within the app. You can also lock and unlock the door using the app. I love how it has a big circle in the app and you just hold your finger on it for a second and see it light up to unlock/lock. Also It displays when the lock was last locked or unlocked.
I assigned my 15yo a code and every time that code is used, I get an alert telling me she used the code to unlock the door. No alert if you are using the master code that you create. You can also see the lock/unlock history in the app. You can set a schedule for the sub-codes to allow access within a certain time or certain day. It has one touch locking option.
To lock the door, I simply touch the Yale icon. To unlock.....I touch the Yale icon to wake the keypad, punch in the code and hit the check icon to unlock. You can adjust the sound setting. (Silent, low, high)
I don't use the keypad much because I have been using the app on my phone to unlock the door as I am pulling into the driveway.
I hope this review helps.

This lock works really well and has some excellent features. I highly recommended this product both for ease of installation and setup. Very secure and a push button night feature that disables the lock so no one can enter, regardless of code used. Another great feature is should the batteries go dead there is a provision to place a 9 volt battery underneath to activate the lock. Has an app to remotely check the status of the lock as well as unlock or lock.

Bought this to replace the smart lock that came with the house. Installation was easy and straight forward right out of the box. Took a few tries to add to my Nest account for whatever reason but was up and running in about 20 minutes from start to finish. I love the ability to lock and unlock from the app. Also the ability to see who is coming and going if you have a large family. I would highly recommend this lock to anyone looking to upgrade.

This lock has been a great convenient addition to our home. It is synced up with our wireless Google home app, but can also be used with just the Nest app. A great feature is you are able to send people a temporary code if they need to get into your home for any reason. It’s been good for our kids who would always lose house keys and now just need to remember the code. It has a great look to it and was not too difficult to install.

Great product! We purchased this lock to use at our Airbnb so we can easily change door codes for each guest + have the ability to manually lock/unlock through a phone app in case of guest emergencies. We've been using the lock for over a month now, and our guests have had no complications. Installing the lock was easy and didn't take long, and there were clear instructions on how to connect the lock to our Google Nest and phones. Highly recommend this product!

As I have been moving my home to more connected devices, it was time to tackle my front door. Tired of fumbling (and forgetting) keys, this lock is fairly easy to install. It is simple to use. I like the ability to give frequent visitors who may come to our home when we're not there their own passcode so we can keep track. It works perfectly with our other Nest products.

This is a game changer for my family, my mother moved in with me last year and after she locked herself out of the house three time I decided to stop paying the locksmith and invest in a keyless entry instead. We haven't had a problem since, it's been worth every penny! Before we got it, I use to come home and find she had left the key hanging in the lock. Yikes! Now I don't have to worry about that. I feel we're much safer with this lock.
I went with the Nest-Yale lock instead of another cheaper brand because you can setup multiple accounts which comes in handy when friends or family come to visit. because my mother is deaf she frequently misses the doorbell. If I know someone is coming in advance, I can setup a temporary code and they let themselves in. If someone comes to visit while I'm away they know they can call me and I can setup a new code quickly on my phone. I also like that I can set expiration dates for these temporary codes so I don't have to worry about disabling them later.
I can't say enough good things about this lock!!

We love all our Nest products. Easy to install. Easy to use. But expensive! Others I investigated though all Appear to have battery life issues. This is my second lock I’ve purchased, this one for the back door. I installed the front door lock two years ago and have yet to replace the batteries.

As I have purchased a several other Nest devices in the last 18 months I really wanted this lock to go with the Hello Doorbell. I was hoping that it would integrate with my smart home and assistants.
First, setup is silly easy. If you have ever installed a deadbolt before you won't have any issues at all with this. Excellent instructions and a well designed product made the hardware portion a breeze. If you have other Next devices then setup is pretty much automatic. Even if you don't Nest has done a brilliant job of making installs almost foolproof.
Once it is setup all you have to do is some basic configuration. You add authorized users and give the passcodes. I don't know if there is a limit to the number you can have, but I would guess they thought of that. You can enable auto-lock, notifications and several other bits and bobs.
What you can't do is use your voice assistant with the lock. While I understand it would be a security issue to be able to just unlock the door with a quick command, it would be nice to lock it. Or at least check and see if it is locked. But I'm sure they will be adding features as it matures.
I do need to point out that the touchscreen works very well, but not the same as a smartphone screen. You have to slow down a bit and make sure each digit registers.
Overall I am happy with the Next x Yale lock. It works well and is absolutely gorgeous. I'm knocking off one star for cost. Paying $300 is awfully high with the features offered at this time. Still if you have other Nest devices you'll probably want to get it.

This is my third install of a Nest/Yale lock for a client and the truth is: if you aren’t using the Nest/Yale smart lock you are using an inferior lock.
This is the best access control device I’ve ever upgraded my home with.
Paired with the Nest Hello doorbell this is the absolutely standard for entry security for the retail space.
The four AA batteries last about a year of daily use. Even if you were on vacation for a month when the battery began getting low you’d have time to get home. Even if it were to die you just hold a 9V battery up to the contacts on the bottom and it will power the lock.
You CANNOT open this lock by voice. This is a security feature. You CAN lock it by voice.
The Nest / Yale final level of security is the best. It is NOT attached to your WiFi. It is encrypted and attached to a Nest Connect which talks to the WiFi. So even were you to have your WiFi compromised the attacker would still need to crack the nest encryption and jump from WiFi to connect Bluetooth to reach the door lock.
Security and Intelligence combined.
