My house was prewired with Cat5 in each room but did not have way to activate those outlets until I purchased this switch. I'm not able to utilize my ethernet cords in the far corners of my house without worrying about picking up a good wifi signal. I connected the switch to my ISP router and that was about it for set up which was a breeze.
