    Works great...when it works

I bought this switch for my home office to get wired internet to my Polycom phone and my computer. It worked great for a couple of days but then the internet to my computer and phone started cutting in and out really bad. I starting troubleshooting the issue to see if it was my new Netgear router modem or if it was this new Netgear switch or if it was just my cable internet. While I was connected to the internet though an ethernet cable, I started running pings on my router modem and I would constantly get responses of <1ms. When my internet would start cutting out on me, my pings would time out A LOT. I would disconnect the ethernet cable that connected my laptop to the switch and I would just connect to the router modem wirelessly and continue to run pings. While I was connected wirelessly, I wouldn't ever get a time out. If I connected my computer back to the switch, my pings would continue to time out again. Unplugging the power to the switch for about 2 minutes and then plugging the power back in to it would get it to work correctly again. I did some other troubleshooting and, as far as I can tell, the problem is with this switch. Also, my VoIP Polycom phone is plugged in to this switch and whatever LAN port I have it plugged in to, that LAN stays lit orange and not green, even when I am on the phone. Maybe the "auto power down" mode for unused LAN is carrying over to my Polycom a little bit? I have only had it a week but I am going to take it back and get a replacement. I'm going to get the same model and just hope the one I have now is just a lemon and the problem I'm having isn't common. If I have the same problem with the new one, I'll take it back and just get a different model and/or brand. Hope this helps anybody make a decision. If the new one works better, then I would recommend this to a friend but I would also tell that friend to be cautious about the purchase.

the store employee in norwood didn't have a clue what I was asking for. I described it as made by netgear a white rectangle about 4" x 6". and has 5 ethernet connections on it's back. I walked around and found it and showed it to the employee, and all he had to say oh that. Keep it up and you'll end up like Circuit City!

    Fixed my Uverse/Mycloud connection

I recently switched to AT&T uverse and had difficulty getting my WD Mycloud storage drive to connect. Apparently this is a common problem, and the Netgear Ethernet switch was recommended as a fix. As soon as I connected it between the modem and Mycloud I was up and running again!

    Does what it says

When you get into switches like these that lack any sort of active features, it's really just a matter of whether or not it delivers on the connectivity speeds, all the ports work and how long it lasts. So far so good. I don't have any sort of electrical consumption meter to analyze the "green" claims, but I have noticed it generates very little heat compared to the Linksys unit it replaced... A safe bet for home networking...

The switch works as expected, but there are probably cheaper options, considering it isn't managed and will lack VLAN capabilities. Limited to 1Gbps, so make sure your bandwidth requirements are under this.

I was initially satisfied with it because it is small and easy to use. But since a couple of months, it stops working a few times a week, and I have to unplug and re-power it to get my network back up.

    I had to return it

I chose this switch because of its look, price and the fact that all the ports were in the back. Set-up was super easy. All i had to do was unbox, plug in the power cord and my ethernet cord...that's it! It worked the first day. Even though I wasn't impressed i thought it would serve its purpose. The following day we switched from att's internet to spectrum internet. The switch was powered but was unable to connect. I tried everything I could but had to return it. So it may work for someone who has att, but it's still an unimpressive device.
