I received the Netgear ProSafe 8-Port Click Switch (GSS108E) free from NETGEAR as part of the Friends and Family review program. Setup: The setup and configuration of the device was fairly straightforward. At first I thought the 1-2-3-4 mounting system was a gimmick but it did give me a range of options when mounting the device in my network closet. I chose to mount it directly to the wall but you also have the option to mount it to a pole or under a table. This flexibility makes it nice so you don't have to find creative ways to place it where you want it. If you don't want to do any configuration you can use it as a dumb switch and just plug it in and start using it. The speeds were comparable with other gigabit switches I own and the added USB ports were a nice bonus. Features: The switch falls in the middle between an unmanaged and managed switch. Think of it as an unmanaged switch on steroids. It gives you the ease of an unmanaged switch but adds some features you can manage like QoS and the ability to create VLANs. If you are interested in the technical features look up the manual, it is a fun 75 page read. Summary: I like devices that have multi uses, the USB ports work as a charging station for my kids' phones. If you want a switch that can be mounted with ease anyway you can think of and gives you more features than a standard unmanaged switch then I would recommend this switch.

First off, I received this switch through the Netgear Friends & Family review program. Let me tell you, I've been using this switch for the past few weeks in my home office and it has been great. Setup was easy as it's plug and play. Simply plug in the power and reserve one port for your router. Speeds have been exactly what I expected, fast and reliable. The mounting brackets and straps made it a breeze to mount under my desk. I feel like I finally have a bit more control over the mess of network cables. As an added bonus there are two usb charging ports that are capable of charging larger devices such as an iPad. Overall, this is a great device to have in your home office or media center.

I received the NETGEAR ProSAFE 8-Port Gigabit Click Switch (GSS108E) as part of their review and test program. This product works exactly as I expected it would, and the form factor and mounting options make it a great choice if you want to hide it from view for a clean installation, especially in an awkward installation location. If you don't care about having a switch and cables out for all to view, there are plenty of other more cost effective options out there. Regarding setup, it's plug and play, so I'll focus more on the physical mounting of the device. There are a ton of mounting configuration available to address the most awkward spaces. Even the power plug is multi-directional, so you can orient the switch almost any way you want to make it work in your space. Regarding features and functionality, there's not much to say because it's a switch, not a router. It's a gigabit switch, so it's extremely fast and runs at advertised speeds as long as you have gigabit Ethernet on your computers. I move a lot of data around my LAN, so gigabit speeds make moving around large files and backups so much faster and less time consuming without bogging down normal network traffic. If you're still running 10/100, then you don't know what you're missing, and you should upgrade now. I highly recommend this product for it's form factor and flexible mounting options. If all you're looking for is a gigabit switch and don't care about the mounting options, I recommend you look at other NETGEAR ProSAFE offerings.

This unit was not at all necessary but we were told that it was by Spectrum. 2 of the ports were not functional.

Netgear's ProSAFE switches are very popular. They still sell a compact metal housing switch that is a best seller. This switch is unique that it features USB charging ports and a separate mounting bracket. The bracket allows the switch to be mounted in any position including under tables or desks. I mounted mine on the back side of my dedicated network cabinet. To connect LAN cables, I can remove the switch from the mounting bracket and plug in the cables where I have clear lighting and view of the ports in my hands. Then when I am ready, just snap the switch back onto its mounting bracket. That is the coolest feature! As with all managed switches, you can log into the firmware and tinker with the settings. I found it difficult to login without the PC side software helping to locate the switch. It should have better network self discovery. The speed is gigabit and is fast. I have had the switch for two months now and have had no problems. I think it is a good value considering the un-managed 4-port ProSAFE switch is about half the price. I received this product for participating in NETGEAR's Friends and Family Program.

I never used a switch before. This 8-port switch is my first, and I have to say it is so easy and simple. I like the fact that it's plug and play and received instant connectivity. Also, I like that this switch is very versatile. I can mount it horizontally or vertically in any place that may be hard to squeeze in. Overall, I'm very pleased and happy to receive this switch as part of NETGEAR Friends and Family Program.

This is one of the nicest switches that I've used when you take into account all of the mounting options. In terms of the technology, this switch seems to work just like other gigabit switches; however, I don't recall ever using a switch that was this versatile to mount. Although I'm not a big fan of using Velcro straps to mount my hardware, that option is also available. Overall, this seems like a solid piece of technology. I didn't give it a 5-star because I feel there is nothing too special about the actual technology to warrant that type of review.
