I was using an Airport Extreme the wireless N Version and I am not a fan of Apple. When I saw the linksys AC router. I decided I could get more throughput in my house for streaming HD locally. The Airport Extreme with an Airport Express set to extend the network and output a wired connection was limited to a 100mb (70mb throughput) connection because of the airport express. I added the Linksys Media Extender wireless AC to replace the AirPort express mostly because the media extender has 4 Gb ports. This would get around 200 Mb throughput. I added the Linksys ac router expecting a big improvement, but only came up a about 250mb throughput. I returned the Linksys AC router and Tried the NETGEAR 6250 AC router and it gave me about the same speeds. I had hoped It would be quicker because of the dual processor, but 200mb out of 1300 was not great. Then I noticed that Apple had their AC airport Extreme on the market and I used this in combination with the Linksys Media Extender and I could get over 500mb throughput..

I have had issues in the past with wifi coverage in large homes. This router seems to have alleviated those range issues. Having multiple antennas and supporting both the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands has been great. I can use the less crowded 5GHz band for newer devices, but still use the 2.4GHz for older equipment. I also like that I can use if as a DLNA server.
