Easy set up. Has endured multiple power outages and comes back without issues. Good radio range. DOCSIS 3.0 is quite sufficient since I will never see 10Gbps in my area.

There are better routers for experienced users.

This product may be OK for beginners who are setting up WiFi for the first time, but to me its Genie, Wizard, and free-trial "features" are negatives. For instance: - Instead of being able to initially configure the router via a wired LAN connection, you need to connect to it wirelessly. - They provide a router-installation app for your cell phone, if you don't mind going that route. I chose not to do that. - When you get to the router's configuration GUI, you are greeted with their legal terms, including binding arbitration with a California venue. Your options are to agree or return the product. - After that, you are presented with the option to trial a monthly-subscription-fee service that apparently collects router usage info, allowing you to monitor control how your family uses the Internet. I'm not sure what-all happens to that info they collect; maybe it's in their legal terms? - There's also another monthly-fee offer for anti-virus and malware protection. - Something missing is the ability for both the 2GHz and 5GHz signals to use the same SSID (name), so your phones can automatically switch to the better signal. Some competitive routers allow that. - This router isn't future proof, as it doesn't use the latest 802.11ax technology. - Netgear's customer support is hard to access and limited to 90 days from date of purchase. To reach them, their website requests your name, email address, product serial number, date of purchase, and problem description. That gets you a time-limited confirmation number that you'll be prompted for when you call and navigate their phone tree, before you wait to be connected to customer service. - To clear your personal info from the router before returning it, you should power on the router and hold the reset button for seven (7) seconds, to perform a factory reset. The overall impression I got is that the product works as designed, but Netgear treats customers as a problem to be minimized, aside from immediate sales. Not all router companies act this way; for instance I've had a recent helpful conversation with TP-Link support about an older product. I've decided to return this product and keep using my old router for now. Once 802.11ax adapters become more common, I'll look at 802.11ax routers from TP-Link.

Second r6400 router and also doesn't work.

First bought an Asus router from Best Buy. That worked maybe 3 months, then exchanged for a Netgear r6400 ac1750. That worked for maybe 3 months. It just completely stopped reading the LAN ports or Ethernet ports and only the wifi worked on very few days before we exchanged for another one of the same model. Not even six days out of the box and all it does is power on. Ethernet ports and wifi were a no go for this one. The internet light is always orange. If anyone is interested in buying this and use many devices connected to the router, this is what we have - incase you are in the same boat. Ethernet ports - Main desk top computer - Two PlayStation 4s Wireless - Two Apple tablets - sometimes a PlayStation 3 - 3 iPhones - sometimes a laptop (Not all of them are on/active at one time)

Save yourself a lot of trouble…don’t buy!

What a nightmare! Last week I purchased this router and the Nighthawk 1200 modem. Both got great reviews and I’ve set up multiple Internet Wi-Fi connections, so I was optimistic. I used to teach technology courses, so I am not a novice. Nevertheless, this was the most horrific experiences I have had with technology. It took six hours to get wi-fi up and functioning. Most of that time was spent working on this router with a tech support person at Nighthawk. We reset the router multiple times, changesd passwords, updated firmware, and after all that time the router would only run in 2.4 mode. This meant high def tv was muddled and fuzzy. After 2 more days of trying to get this modem to perform, I boxed everything up and returned it. There are too many options to jump through all the hoops Nighthawk puts in your path. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

    Nice router, terrible parental controls

    Posted .

The router portion itself appears to function as advertised. However, the main reason I bought this router was for the parental controls. The parental controls function so poorly, that (at least on the router that was in my box) whenever the parental controls are turned on, without any restrictions being put on the controls, just enabled, the router turns off all internet traffic. After many attempts at getting a different outcome, several hours later I have come no further in my effort to at least turn them on and having them work at all. With a pretty long history of building computers and dealing with networking for the last 20+ years, I am very disappointed that it is so difficult to make this feature work.

I was looking to upgrade from my old Netgear router because the range was limited in my new house. With this router I am now able to be connected as far as outside in my yard.

Looks like with this router, one can set up four different WiFi settings. Two four 2.4 Gigs and two for 5(?) Gigs. Two of those settings are for guests. Also this unit come with two USB connections built into the router itself. One connection is 3.0 and the other vonnection is 2.0. Also it comes with three antennae. If you have an older vomputer, chances are it might just connect to the 2.4 Gig wireless connection only like an older laptop I have. The new laptop works well with both comnections.

I bought this with a Netgear modem to replace the Comcast modem I had been paying a monthly rental fee for, this works great and setup was a breeze, I had it up and going in a matter of minutes. It's also great that it broadcast in 2.4 and 5GHz, along with has the option of having a guest login turned on or off for both that can be setup with separate broadcasts and passwords from your own connections.
