Stay away ... Netgear should not be selling this!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've heard the horror stories over past couple years about the Netgear 1750 (r6400). I made an incorrect assumption that software updates would have cured all the connectivity issues over those same years. NOT!!!! I'm in IT and as a hobby help friends and friends of friends with their computer issues. I was recommending the 1900 Netgear (n7000) but the price on this n6400 was a sale price and too low for client to turn down. Again, I figured the 'issues' had been solved by now. Once I had everything hooked up and set up, as long as my client wanted to go wired and connect via the ethernet then the speed was fine. But, wireless? ... LOL LOL My clent's onboard wireless card has a maximum speed of 150 mpbs. She gets this on her current router. The best I could get out of this router was a speed of 65 mpbs. Really. Undoubtedly this is a firmware or some other weird issue that Netgear HAS to be aware of since its been haunting customers since it first came on the market. You can read the forums and Netgear PPL will advise going to an earlier firmware, or this or that or another thing. REALLY!! Forgive me but I think a router should just work out of the box after the initial, basic setup. No excuses. It is not cost effective for me to try and figure out what firmware may or may not work to get the wireless speed advertised. Take this device off the market. Cannot recommend this ever to clients. And I would never purchase it myself. And too bad, cause Netgear has and does make other routers that work wonderfully. This isn't one of them.

Wireless get weaken
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After 6 months used, web surfing start buffering and stalled sometimes in wireless mode, wired Ethernet is fine. When Live parental controls enabled, access internet through wireless impossible, so this feature useless.

Netgear AC1750
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Network issue-Netgear wants to charge $99 for support. They are telling me i have a virus and the only way they can complete the install is to charge the fee of $99. I was told 10 time it is not Netgears fault i have a virus. What did i pay $170 for the product and 3 months of support for if they are NOT going to support the product. I was told that Netgear was the easiest to install and they had the best customer service. NOT. Save your money and go to another brand. Then when i was upset with the phone support they sent me to a Tech Support for him to continue to cut me off, interrupt everytime i tried to speak and still did not get any assistance.

Worked for about 1.5 years; now it keeps resetting
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So the product right out of the box worked great for about a little over a year. But recently, the router kept resetting the connection everytime I try to download any online game, movie, or even small batches of photos from Dropbox. The wifi would drop, then it resets and it comes back on, and then it drops again after a few minutes. For those out there that are having this same issue, you're not alone. It's not my internet provider, as they said the connection to my modem is consistently stable throughout this. I wish this router would've lasted longer than it did, for the price. Also, as others have mentioned, Netgear support is useless. They expect you to pay at minimum $89.99 just for them to reset your router from their end--which, by the way, does not work. Then they take forever just to refund your money. All in all, I'm looking for a different brand now.

Router is good, but interface controls limited
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the router by itself very much. Very fast and easy to connect. I was mainly very disappointed in the interface, particularly the parental controls. I needed controls that I could set up to limit certain domains at certain times and days. The parental controls only allow you to manage groups and only times of the day, but you cannot set it up differently for weekend days and weekday days. Because of the interface, I would not recommend this product to someone who needs to control the router through the interface.

Great ...while it worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this router in April and it worked flawlessly for 9 months. It suddenly stopped working and began to self reset. After a few hours of this I swapped in a spare (slower) router and that worked fine so I know my internet connection was good. I called Netgear for warrant servicing and the support guy had me swap back in the Netgear router for troubleshooting. To my surprise it worked. He concluded it was a poor internet connection. After 2 hours the Netgear router again began to self reset. I swapped back in my spare router and it has been working fine. I suspect the problem is heat related since the failure occurs after a few hours. I contacted the support guy and informed him of this. He sent me a series of questions, asking if there was smoke or fire, if the enclosure melted, if anyone was electrically shocked, etc.. Doesn’t he think I would have mentioned to him if I saw smoke, fire, or a melted enclosure? Begrudgingly, I replied, “No”, to these questions. Soon after he sent me a reply that the router is not defective and that servicing is not needed. I replied that I do not consider this issue resolved and am dissatisfied with the customer support I have received. I haven’t gotten any response since. While I await my new router (not a Netgear router) my spare router has not lost connection and it’s been several days. I was very disappointed with the Netgear customer support and do not recommend their products because of this.

Great when it worked
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this router a few months ago. My initial configuration was easy and everything worked fine. Great wireless range and speed. About 60 days into use (no configuration changes, no changes on my home network), I lost network connectivity. Wireless and my Tivo (hardwired) all lost connection. I restarted the router, same results. I tried downgrading the firmware, nothing. I finally reset it back to factory default and proceeded to configure it again. It worked for two days with no issues until the problem reappeared. Contacted Netgear support who couldn't figure out what was wrong so they sent me a new router (I had to pay for return shipping by the way. that made me happy after just paying $130 for a router that doesn't work). Configured the replacement router and notice the GUI interface was acting very sluggish and unresponsive. I reset it to factory defaults and configured again. The thing worked fine for three days until the same problem started happening again. I finally said forget it and plugged in my older router, which has been running fine for the past two weeks with no problems. Very disappointed in this equipment. Don't think I'll waste my time with Netgear again.

Good router after you learn to addess setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Router works well but Netgear support is lacking. After buying a Netgear Router R6400v2 I tried to login to enable Guest accounts and set up passwords. As noted by others setting up was difficult. Trying http://routerlogin.net or .com usually brings you to the Netgear webpage. No help there. Trying to download Nighthawk for PC is not possible. Eventually you get instruction to call Netgear support. DON’T! (More on that later). Easy way to login is to find I.P address of router, ARP –A from command line helps(run arp –a with router disconnected and later with router connected. The added IP address visible is your router. If you enter Router IP address in address bar of browser you get login screen User = admin Password = password. From here you can easily enable guest accounts change router password set up passwords for Wireless accounts etc. setup becomes easy. Nighthawk can not perform many necessary tasks. I called the Netgear support line. Rep did not offer help just got me to allow him to share computer screen and performed many useless steps. Then rep stated the problem was serious and required Netgear experts to analyze for $99. Told him I’d return the router first.

Wireless routers, access points, and adapters send and receive radio wave signals through antennas. To optimize your wireless range, we suggest checking this resource: https://kb.netgear.com/1114/Improving-wireless-range-Overview

bad product bad return policy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.wifi connection regularly dropped off at 10 feet. After several weeks trying to resolve with netgear they decided product was defective. Netgear will replace if I pay shipping and can wait 2 weeks. Otherwise they charge $50 to overnight a replacement. Best Buy wouldn't help at all because it is past 15 days. This $95 router is costing significantly more than I bargained for in time and money. I should have bought at Costco. Other than the product was ultimately defective, it did have nice features.

REMOVED security features during firmware upgrade
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this router for years and recently discovered that during a firmware "upgrade" Netgear REMOVED all the parental protections and security features including OpenDNS live parental controls that came with the device. Looks like they switched to Circle and screwed all of us who bought the router several years prior. This "upgrade" also undid all of the keyword blocking and blocked domains without me knowing. I bought this router to protect my kids as the bottom layer of protection and it failed miserably due to their greed and obvious planned obsolescence. I have been loyal to Netgear for every router upgrade, but their name is absolute garbage now as I've had to buy a completely new router (different brand!) for parental controls despite this one still working 100% perfectly. Probably will happen to you in the future too!

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst possible "wireless" router I have ever owned. I wish that I had taken the time to read the * reviews. I would definitely have not purchased this worthless device had I done so. This router does not work. It is constantly losing connection...multiple times every single day. This past weekend it dropped from the wireless connection if we tried to stream anything on the apple tv, I tried to play the ps4 or if we tried to use the wireless connection on our smart phones. The tech support for Netgear is useless. Do not waste your time and energy calling them for help. Because the only thing they are good at is wasting time. After spending 4 hours on the phone over a couple of days with them, they are finally going to replace the router but will not cover the shipping costs that I will have to pay. They did not send me a return label of any kind. I am completely on my own with sending it back. Net gear products will never set foot in my house ever again. I will go back to DSL internet and hardwire everything before I purchase one of their products!

2.4 GHZ Broke in 5 Months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this router in 12/31/16 and it's now 6/6/17 and my 2.4 GHZ network is no longer working and nothing will connect to it. The 5.0 Network is working, but the 2.4 will not work. My thermostat and other devices that can't get on the 5.0Ghz network are just not connecting and Netgear Tech support is complete TRASH. This router is fancy, but Like ALL OTHER ROUTERS has failed. I can't believe that the Router has already failed after a little over 5 months. Of course outside of the 90 DAY support warranty and I'm not paying $50 for premium support. I'll just get another router. JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET THE GEEK SQUAD 2 YEAR WARRANTY TO AVOID THIS TYPE OF BS.

BEWARE Of The "Warranty"
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Router stopped working after 7 months. Troubleshooting pointed towards a defective WAN port. To get "warranty service" you must call the technical support number...........and after a few minutes of questions from the support person I am told, "ok, to proceed any further I need to verify a credit card number. If we cannot get the device working we will send you a replacement, but if we get the device working you will be charged $90". That's a greedy string attached to a 1-year defective device replacement warranty.

Lasted 4 Months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought mid-March 2020. Charter couldn’t get it to work, so Netgear had to do troubleshooting via phone for it to finally work hours later. August 2020 - just over 4 months later, and it’s not working again. After 90 days Netgear washed their hands of it. Best Buy washed their hands of it w/no hand receipt since they couldn’t locate it in their system, even with the details we could share from our bank statement. Charter tried to factory reset it with some other troubleshooting that didn’t work. After 5 hours of phone calls with no accountability, the Best Buy we bought it at finally let me exchange it. Netgear and Best Buy both lost frequent customers with this experience.

PIece of junk
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought on recommendation of sales person based on the needs that I had for the number of devices I needed to connect. Was told it was easy to set up. I have spent multiple hours trying to set this thing up and it is impossible to do so. It will not pick up my internet and allow me to connect. Funny thing is with the same set up on my old and slow router I have internet connection. I have looked at other reviews on Net Gear and see how they refuse to assist with set up issues unless you pay around $140.00 for a service contract. Unless you have at least 10 Phds in computer science run away fast from this router as it is impossible to set it up. I would love to rate this a negative 5 stars.

Lasted 2 years, then it suffered hardware failure.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lasted 2 Years and the WiFi keeps cutting out. My PC which is hardwired is unaffected, but whenever there is someone streaming off of WiFi in the house, it cuts out. Factory reset the device and ran it with standard settings and still got the same result.

Netgear can do better then this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We live in a large house. So I bought this router to expand my wifi and to connect my wise cams to it. While wired thru my Xifinity Modem I only get half the speed of the service I pay for with Xfinity when I connect thru the Netgear Wifi. I have mutile pc's as well as Wize cams. Even My wize cams keep disconnecting. I factory reset the device and still have the same problems. I thought it was my service because I kept getting disconnected or slow speeds. Either I got a defective unity or the one I have is just a bad model. I'm not happy with this purchase. I feel like I wasted 130 dollars. The modem is just sitting on the shelf now because it's useless to me. Don't buy this model it's a piece of crap. Save your money.
