The batteries last longer than I expected, at least 3 months, longer if not set off too often. The app could use some work. Sometimes I have to close it and open back up to get it to stop buffering.

No need to pay for subscription, and they interface with Echo and IFTTT, so they can trigger or act on pretty much anything.
