Customers enjoy the ease of use, camera quality, and wireless capabilities of the Arlo Smart Home Indoor/Outdoor Wireless High-Definition IP Security Cameras. Positive feedback also highlights the installation process, night vision, and the accompanying app. However, some users point to areas needing improvement, such as battery life and motion detection. Got the 720p camera at a great price but decided to return when battery life was insufficient. Changed a lot of settings to improve battery life but still not content.

I purchased the 4 camera system and added an additional camera. I am no stranger to home security cameras. I’ve had Pansonic and Logitech Alert in the past. I addition to the Arlo, I have the Dropcam Pros and the newest version of the Dropcam Pro aka Nest Cam. Total cams for theses are 6. Five of which, I have the 10 day cloud recording service associated with my Dropcams/Nest cam. Plus of Arlo - No wires - Small and can be placed anywhere - Weatherproof Minuses - Poor IR illumination (I supplemented with addition IR lamp) - HORRIBLE motion detection recording - Battery Life ( I get about 1-2 months) - No ability to set zones for recording/detection - Image recording quality can be pixilated at times. - Support - No audio The ARLO system is not a legit security system for the minuses I mentioned. The motion detection is the deal breaker. What use is the system if the camera catches only a partial part of the incident. I have set my cameras up as indicated in the manual so the motion is captured from side to side. Problem is when the cam detects motion and starts to record, the incident is either already gone or you catch the end of it. The inability to set up “zones” is also a big issue for a security system. This would allow you to cut down on false motions and also save battery life. The Nest Cam/Dropcam beats the Arlo hands down in pretty much every aspect with the exception of being weather proof and wireless. Motion detection is far superior, night vision, audio, and the software all exceed what Arlo has to offer. The Dropcam/Nest does not offer cording unless you pay for the cloud recording. I have all my cams on cloud recording and it is worth the extra money if you want a good reliable security system. My cams are recording 24/7 and record the last 10 days. So, I don’t ever have to worry about missing the action like the arlo. The Nest also allows for user set zones also. The ARLO has severe limitations and for that, it is a subpar “security system”. If you can afford the cloud record, I’d recommend the Nest Cams. If you don’t want to spend money on recording, I’d look into other system and not the Arlo.

Camera for the most part is okay Night vision not even worth having. Camera also looses connection more then expected. For the money and ease of installation, I gave it a 4, even though I'm not that thrilled about it.

Excellent concept...especially the wireless part...makes it super easy to deploy and install anywhere in your space without worrying about network cables or power socket. Streams HD video if you want but that takes a heavy toll on the battery So many things (see cons list below) to wish for but i will still recommend this for anyone who just wants a very easy to use camera system around their space Cons -No sound -No Pan and Tilt -Requires a hub -You can't stream motion detection video to a local drive or personal cloud because netgear wants to make money off subscription -Not many flexibility built into the camera controls -There's a bit of a learning curve to get the Mode and Rules concept...for a camera built in 2015, i think the modes and rules idea is totally unnecessary and only diminishes the use case for the camera

We bought this camera with the intention of placing it behind a window inside our house to view the outside porch. We set this up only to find out that these cameras do not pick up motion when placed behind glass. You can literally wave your hand in front of the glass from the outside and the camera will not pick up your hand motion. Unfortunately had to return this system because of this. Also, one of the cameras was broke and not syncing -_-
