I really wanted these to be good. Recently had a burglary and was looking for an easy to set up system to monitor the house when I'm not home. Sadly this systems motion detection doesn't work very well. The sensitivity only seems to have two functions. Alert on everything including the wind blowing and clouds moving over the sun or nothing that includes me jumping up and down trying to get it to go off. With sensitivity turned down to 60% we would still get 40+ alerts a day and most of them would have no noticeable motion in them. System was extremely easy to set up. Would be good for occasionally watching live feeds but no for monitoring through motion tracking.

I haven't been able to get past the new service setup. Factory reset is not working. I'm spending way too much time just trying to get the system set up and connected to the Internet.

Did not work out of the box. Since it was a gift, it did not get opened and tested within your short return/exchange policy. I will never buy a gift for anyone at Best Buy again.

Set up was easy. Initially, I found that it kept loosing connection, solved it by moving the hub around. Cameras do go offline at times and do need to be refreshed. IOS app is slow loading but gives high quality view. Mounting hardware is not very strong. I like the portability of the camera units. Overall, it is good investment in home security.

Stay away! They stink, I returned mine. They do not stick with 30lb 2 sided tape, they don’t show well. Software is clumsy. They want to upcharge for everything.

    Great mounting flexibility

I really like the camera, love how it can mount on any angle with the magnetic ball connection. However, had someone in my home in the dark. This camera captures the facial features beautifully by the way, but it turns red upon recording which alerted the person. They looked right up at the camera, so I tested myself and sure enough in dark settings the face of the camera turns red. That is the only reason I am returning.

    The good and the bad

First impression is 4.5 stars because of completely wireless, looks great, set up is easy and quality of video is good. Setting schedules and triggering is dynamic and easy. This includes IFTTT and Nest compatibility. No one else has a competitive product with regard to true wireless. So why did I give 3 stars? This product is too expensive for what it is and just as important expensive to operate. Depending on how you use it you'll be lucky to get more than 2-3 months battery life and good batteries are not cheap. Expect average of $20-40 dollars per camera per year. That leads to the other reason I rate this system low. Most cameras have ability to set detection zones but not these. Even worse they are mostly good at detection of motion horizontal to frame of view. So for perimeter security your going to detect a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic even at edge of field of view. This would be fixed if the above motion filter was added. All this leads to frequent and unnecessary camera triggers. Reducing sensitivity tends to work at range that causes desired triggering motions to be delayed or missed. The good is this should be mostly improved with software upgrade but not sure why it hasn't happened yet?

I received the Arlo Wireless Security Camera 3-camera pack (VMS3330) and began my installation by first removing the cameras from the box. They are secured by plastic screws, so have a coin handy. Easy to remove and good for the product to keep them from getting damaged or jostled. Simply stated – it was a breeze setting up the system. Attaching the Base Station to the home router (hard-wire), synching the cameras to the base station, placing the cameras (to test), and then logging on to the Arlo app to check how they worked, took less than 20 minutes for 3 cameras! The only speed bump I encountered was initially using my smartphone to access the app and get the synching started. My phone wasn’t immediately recognized, so I opted to start the setup on my computer. After that, the phone app has worked flawlessly. Setting up rules for when the camera is on, when it records, and how long it records is not entirely intuitive but not difficult, either. For example, when changing the setting for how long the camera records from 10 secs. (min) to 120 secs. (max) the change for the setting is located in the “Mode” section of the app, not in “Settings”. Then, for each Mode, you have to click on the “Edit” icon to change the setting, click the edit icon for “Record Video”, change the setting, and click on “Back” to go back to the main edit page, then click on “Save”, huh (?). And you have to do it for each camera you set up – there is no global setup for all the cameras in each mode. A little clunky but again, not horrible. The base setup includes magnetic mounts, which are great for quick setup but not very secure. If you want a more permanent setup, be sure to get the Adjustable Mount (VMA1000) accessory. Lastly, the night vision on these things is pretty darn good. I have them set up in the garage and basement, and even with the smallest amount of reflected light, I can see a good amount of detail. The regular recordings have good resolution and when bright, extremely good coloration. Otherwise, it shows in black and white in low light. There is a slight motion delay, not exactly “real-time”, but only off by about 3-4 seconds. It’s nice that the cameras come in camouflage and black, too! It seems comparably priced with others of the type of system and features it offers, but you can’t beat the ease of setup. I would fall short of calling this a security system but it is a great surveillance tool for the home! I would recommend this unit to anyone that wants to monitor their home/room status, either while at home or away. I received the Arlo Home Security system (VMS3300) as a part of a referral program, free from Netgear, for the purposes of this evaluation and candid review.

A camera system that goes where others couldn't

The Arlo Smart Home wireless camera system is one of the easiest i have ever set up. Out of the box just plug the base to power, install the batteries that are included to your wireless cameras and press the sync button on all the units. To finish it off, download the Arlo app and plug your router to your base and voila. The Arlo (vms3330) wireless cams are weatherproof for indoor and out, record in 720p and come with 12 IR LED's to record at night with clarity. After running my Arlo (vms3330) for a week, i almost forgot they where wireless. The quality of recording is bar none the best wireless cam's ive owned. I had no loss of signal like my previous systems and the 720p recording was great. Overall a great system. If i was given the chance to change anything it would be replacing regular batteries for rechargeable ones. Next to that i would recommend the Arlo (vms3330) to anyone who wants a great wireless cam system that can be mounted in just about any location at any angle. I would like to thank NETGEAR for letting me test the Arlo (vms3330) security system with 3HD cameras as part of a review and test program.

    Awesome product, but warning!

I love this product! BUT! Do not hire the Geek Squad to install it for you. Don't do it!!! This is an AWESOME product. It works just as they say it will work, actually even better. The night vision indoors is amazing. It is totally wireless and the quality of the video is fantastic. What makes it even better is the wonderful customer service. I called customer support at Arlo to help me set up the camera system. The guy I talked to was Neil and he was FANTASTIC! He really took time to explain every step to me. He made it easy and fun to set it up. I think I am so over joyed because at first I paid Geek Squad $249.00 to come to my house to set them up for me. I waited on the waiting list for 2 weeks (after purchasing the cameras) for the Geek Squad "professional installers" to come to my home because I wanted to make sure it was done correctly by the best people. My past experiences with Geek Squad and Best Buy have been AWESOME. Usually, I can trust that I will only be given the very best service when working with either a Geek Squad or Best Buy employee. But, this time was different. From the moment the Geek Squad guys walked through my doors it was down hill from there. As soon as the guys came in, the main Geek Squad guy said... * "We can't install the cameras because you have a two story house we don't run wires up there". -- I explained there were no wires to run. The camera system is completely wireless. He kept mentioning upstairs so I had to firmly reassure him he would not be going upstairs. --"You will not be going upstairs... for any reason... at all," I promised. * "There are no systems that are completely wireless" (he replied). -- I showed him the box where it says "100% wireless". * The other guy took one out of the box and mentioned that the cameras run on batteries. The main guy then said, "Those batteries won't last long." -- I explained my plan was to get some rechargeable batteries and a charger so I can just rotate them as needed. * "You can't use rechargeable batteries on this camera", he replied. -- "Um yes you can. I found this information on the Arlo website in the community forum," I responded. * "Well, we don't set up the base station or DVR box and we can't show you how to use the software. The only thing we can do is put the nail in the wall and hang the camera on it, " He stated. "Well, I am not willing to pay you $249.00 to put 4 nails in the wall which I can do myself (the 5th camera will sit on a shelf and needs no nail). So, I will let you guys get back to your office and I will be contacting Best Buy for a $249.00 refund," I said. That was the end of that. I got my refund (with no problems from Best Buy), but for days I worried about how difficult it would be for me to set up the system on my own. Finally, I called Arlo customer support. It took Neil less than 10 minutes to talk me through setting up all the cameras and less than half that time to learn to use the software. I am so very happy with this product and the customer service I received from Arlo. I would highly recommend this product to my friends and family.

This is a great system. Up and running in fifteen minutes. I know within seconds that someone or something has came by my cameras. I named each one and set them for a minute video. Even if someone takes or destroys my camera it's too late they are already in my library and I have a video of the person.

Base unit failed in 5 months

I liked everything about the Arlo...until the base unit failed. Great video, motion detection, night vision, Mobile Device interoperability. And above all, completely wireless. However 5 months to the date of purchase and not even halfway into the 1 year parts and labor warranty the base unit failed. Ticket with Netgear and 2 days into it and they cannot decide on how they wish to resolve the issue. With multi-threaded documentation and tired of burning useless cycles with Netgear, I turned to BestBuy to seek their assistance and was recited policy....Soooo, I spent $500 for 5 months of Netgear Arlo video security....Save your money folks, get a managed service. AT&T and Comcast would be happy to have customers like you.

I paired all the cameras with the base station. That was very simple. I then placed the cameras all around the house. The signal strength varies from one to four bars. No problems with connections, even at one bar. The only issue is the range at which the cameras will sense movement. There are two that I would like more range on, but it is what it is. Twenty feet or so for a person-sized object seems to be the limit. It would also be nice if I could change the default tone to be different from all my other emails and notifications. All-in-all, a very cool system.
