Had high hopes, was let down
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research before I bought these. They can work well, but know what you are buying. These cameras will only record motion, not at any other times. The motion detection uses heat, not pixel changes like most other cameras use. I noticed I was missing about half of the motion, even after playing with settings and camera position. The motion is best detected when moving across the field of view, not directly towards the camera, but I still missed a lot of motion events. The app, and setup was all very straight forward. Installation was easy, you plop the camera on the magnetic mount. The cameras have a very wide field of view, and the quality during the day is great. Night vision is poor, as these are battery powered, there is not much "oomph" to power IR leds, so the night vision lacked. Battery life: Poor. It was around 50 degrees during my 2 weeks of testing. I had 3 of the 4 cameras loose half of their life in 4 days. Towards the end of my testing, 2 cameras were low. I decided to return the system before my return deadline was up, as I did not want to risk having this be the normal. It could have been bad batteries from the start, as they were sitting in the box, but living up north, I was very scared to see what the battery would be like when it actually got cold. I ended up getting a hard wired system, and did the labor of running wires. Much happier now.

Good for tinkerers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the Arlo system for a week. The picture quality was ok, digital zoom was good, and motion detection good. I was able to monitor the cameras on the phone and the computer, which I liked. I could remotely monitor at will. The motion notification was good enough and seemed reliable. I had to reboot and reload everything twice. The cameras would not be viewable a different times and they may come back or I might have to reinstall them. I did not place them very far from the base, so I don't know how they worked at a distance. I liked to play with them at home, but I wanted to install them 4 hours away. So this was not the answer for my situation. I have a Ring doorbell and a D-link HD 180 camera now that seems to be working as advertised. These are not the best solution compared to what the Arlo could possibly provide. ((I conditionally recommend this if you like tinkering with toys and have the system close by.))

Awesome !
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had installed these camera's on the outside of my house, I had an extra one that I use to watch my dog while I am away. I had a plumber come in and do some work, which I trusted and had used him a lot in the past. I noticed my phone was notifying me and low and behold the plumber was going through my jewelry box! Arlo recorded the entire thing! the plumber is now without a license and I had proof! amen for a good camera!

Major flaws
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this because the design of my two story home wasn't ideal for running a wired system (my preference). Install and setup was a breeze. The problem rests in its inability to do what people buy security systems for. For example, I mounted a camera near my front door and at an angle because the instructions say cameras pick up horizontal motion better than head on motion. Over the course of several days, the camera consistently failed to sense motion and begin recording fast enough before the subject was out of view. At best I catch the very tail end of someone entering my front door which wouldn't do me or the police any good. My second camera is a mere 10' away from the front door camera and it doesnt even pick up motion of someone entering my front door. Not to mention it only records 10 seconds per activation. I understand this is a battery operated system, but to me, this is an unacceptable security system for any price because it doesn't work. I took mine back and will find a way to install a wired, continuous system and have peace of mind.

GREAT CAMERAS BUT HAVE MINOR FLAWS
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had my cameras for about 3 weeks now and I have to say, I am IMPRESSED with them not to mention that they were also SUPER EASY to install. They have clear views, motion detection works perfect every time and I get notifications sent to my cell phone within seconds when motion is detected, great reliability, only MINOR FLAWS are 1 of my 4 cameras is already at 67% battery life after only 3 weeks while the rest of the cameras are at 90% percent or more which is odd and the cameras go offline at times, and no it is not my internet connection as I am at 100 mbps. Other than that they are solid good quality reliable cameras that work as described by Netgear.

Works As Advertised
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am 55 years old, and for me this was a easy install and set up. I normally do not read reviews because many are often negative and inaccurate for the wrong reason. It is important to read the instructions for this product. I have had my system on line for 2 months and batteries are still full charge. This is the perfect system for those who just desire to record motion. If you want to record 24x7 continuously then you will need a wired system.

Horrible Customer Service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The first purchase (4 cameras and one base, 10/15) included one camera that drains the batteries in two weeks. This is still an open ticket. Good customer service would have replaced the camera but it took weeks to get them to replace the batteries. I will be surprised if they ever replace the obviously defective camera. The second purchase ( 8 cameras and 2 bases, 11/15) included a base that stopped communicating with the Internet after more than one month in service. I just opened this ticket with customer support. I am sure it will take too long and they will do everything to avoid replacing the defective base. When this is finally resolved all five cameras will have dead batteries because they continue to attempt communications with the defective base . I'll be outside climbing ladders again to remove the cameras, reconnect to the base, replace the batteries and remount the cameras. The product is amazing when it works. The customer service is horrible. I bought 12 cameras, 3 bases and upgraded to The Elite subscription. If I had a chance to do this over I would buy something else.

Not quite perfect
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wireless (wire free!!!) and easy setup was the most alluring and true statement made by all reviews read. Anything beyond that is a disappointment. 130 degree angle is ok but the camera MUST be in the bad guys face to make out who's robbing you. 720p is the cause of blurry, undetectable recognition of people. To add 10 second clip is the recommended if you don't want to shorten your 4/6 month battery life...but that 10 second clip may or may not be useful to the police if the motion sensor didn't come on on time to capture the bad guys back or face. You're securing your house for the just in case, and if that moment in a long time that there was an incident in your house because the default is 10 sec (conserving battery life). you may or may not captured the image of a bad guy. Not the best product, but definitely something cheaper than a monthly plan...cross your finger you don't live in a neighborhood that requires TRUE home security. A very expensive "just incase" security system. Lastly, email notification can be delayed based on your email service or mobile signal strength. By the time you get the email, bad guys gone...again, hoping you captured a blurry image of the bad guys back/face??

Not good for security purposes
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I do not write many reviews, so I would pay attention to this one. I bought this camera a few days ago and I have to say, it is not great at all. It will not detect anyone walking on the sidewalk. It will however detect you walking, but only capture a glimpse of you before you disappear. So you could be walking up to your garage, but it will only capture you right before walking in your garage. This is with the sensitivity turned all the way up. You will see similar comments like this too. The night vision sucks, so if you don’t have outside lights. Sorry. The picture quality is not great and hard to make things out during the night. I went out and bought the Nest camera yesterday and I have to say, I’m more pleased with the Nest. Granted, the Nest is run by cord, but it is still cheaper than buying batteries.

Great surveillance for home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture is great, has withstood rain, winds and snow. Record feature is great, the delay is a bummer and batteries have to be replaced often, but overall worth the purchase. Remote access from your smart phone is also an awesome feature

Only good for sporadic use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used this system for about 3-4 weeks in my business. I wanted 24-hour surveillance but didn't ask if it was provided so I was fine with keeping it on 24-hour motion detection. There is about a 3-4 second delay though, even on the fastest speed. However, I had to return it because these cameras eat batteries like they're freaking pizza!! Each camera takes 4 photo 123 batteries EACH and they would die within a week. Those batteries aren't cheap so what I save in the price of the cameras, I make up in the price of the batteries. So if you only want to record for a few hours of the day, it might work out for you, but constant surveillance will cost you more.,

ARLO Software make product too frustrating to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The product is very frustrating to setup and continually tune for it to work. The motion detection goes off if a car passes the house, even if the camera is not pointing at the street. Setting the motion sensitively does nothing to help. On Sunny days the motion detection records dozens of false videos from the sun shading a tree (as the sun moves the shadow) or shining on blacktop. It take about 4 seconds for it to start recording after it senses the motion of someone walking by - to the point that depending on the area you are recording you never see anyone walking into the camera sight. Too many problems with software the freezes on an iPhone to false negatives just chewing up the batteries.

Great cameras
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are great security cameras! I waited for a month before posting a review because I was concerned about battery life, But a month has passed and the camera still remains 3/4 to full battery. I am very happy with the video quality. This is my first home security camera and I must say that it gives me peace of mind whenever I am not home. I can view live feed on my phone and gets email notification. Overall I'm happy with these cameras and plan on owning another kind in the future. Pros: Set-up was easy and the iOS application interface was user friendly. The video quality is clear and the night mode is also sufficient. In the past month, I haven't had any glitches with the cam communicating with the base station. The iOS app is easy to use and only Battery life has been great but I think this also depends on how you set it up (sensitivity, length of video clip, etc). Regardless, it’s possible find sets of 12 rechargeables for a reasonable price. The free cloud backup for the last week is adequate. Storage time is about a week. If you want to keep a particular clip, you can easily download it in the app and it saves in the Photos app on your phone. Mount is very easy to install, just one screw. Magnet mount is very secure. Wide field of view without being distorted. Cons: Biggest cons: Doesn’t record sound or pass sound thru, would love to own another camera in the future with more sophisticated sound feature. Doesn't record 24/7. Only activated by motion. Everything is done via the Internet. Alerts, video viewing, etc can be a little slow to load, depending on your internet speed. Unable to talk to people through the camera like you can do with another brand. Occasional glitch when wanting to disable the camera sometimes. I received the Arlo Wire-Free Security System with 3 HD Cameras from NETGEAR as part of a review and test program.

Not a great product for the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had vandalism issues in our area so I decided to but out about $560.00 for the 4 camera bundle and exterior mounts. The image quality is just OK and very poor at night. In the night vision mode you won’t be able to recognize anyone unless they are within a few feet of camera. The automatic detection feature won’t work beyond about 10 or 12 feet, and if the person is walking directly toward the camera in a straight line the detection system does not work. For the detection system to work at all the motion has to be across the field of vision. This system might work OK for interior use but for outdoor security it is a waste of money. The maximum amount of time the camera will record is 2 minutes per video (bad feature). The base station of the system has USB ports; it would be nice to be able to use this feature to record to an external hard drive. The cameras are battery powered and the batteries were down 20 percent in 24 hours…So who knows how long they will last. I will be returning this system because of its poor value, for what it does this should cost less than $50.00. We will be purchasing a hard wired system that records in HD and cost about half as much.

Great System
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Decided to go with a wireless system instead of running CAT5 all over the house for my other system. System was easy to setup, took only 5 minutes. Placed cameras in the necessary locations and I was up and going. Purchased a month ago and batteries are still showing Full on indicator. Cloud based storage works well... no NVR running 24-7. Alerts are prompt and can access video via iOS or Android. Will be adding a few more in the months ahead.

Blown Away!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product exceeded my expectations. It took longer to open the package than it did to set it up. The app is great and I set up my camera using solely my Android phone. I was surprised with how much the camera can cover in the frame. I also like that I can view the camera live whenever, in addition to when motion is captured. I will for sure be buying a second Arlo camera.

Great - can mount camera indoors behind window.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I needed to mount the camera behind window and it works great - glare at night from street lamps and head lights is negligible. Cloud storage is free and system is easy to set-up. If you have trouble registering your system on initial set-up start a chat session don't bother reading through the website for answers as it is an issue that has not been addressed by ARLO.

So far, an excellent purchase
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.no wires, weather proof, user friendly phone app and easy setup. I don't usually write reviews, but this one deserved one. If there was room for improvement, i would say the ability to connect the devices to other automation services. Oh and I forgot, Arlo does not charge you for recording videos on the cloud!! (basic account) so you can see whats going in in your house. I'm glad someone figured this out for us the customer :)
