    Video turns pink

This is my second system in 12 years. The first one was Logitec, which lasted about 4 years before they started failing. They no longer sell cameras so I found these. Very easy to install and connect to the network. They started having problems after a year (at about the time the warranty expired). The first of two cameras began to show a pink tint on the live view and playback, except at night. I have read where other people have experienced the same and the support advised a reset of the camera, which I did, with the same results. They went back to the pick tint after a day or two. I now have another one with the pink tint and I expect the other two will follow. Setting the sensitivity is a problem. I had 500+ recordings of my tree branches moving ever so slightly. If I try to get the branches out of the motion detection area I cannot cover the area I really need. No one at the store advised me on this purchase, so no blame on BB. I bought them due to the ease of installation, totally wireless (which meant batteries), and average price per camera. Plus I expected good quality from Netgear. I was recommending them to family and friends but I have recanted due to my experience. $500 for one year is not a good bargain

For a completely wireless set of security cameras, these are one of the best! The only down side is that they go through batteries fairly quickly.

Excellent Set of Truly Wireless cameras

Love this set. I was looking for completely wireless cameras so I can post them up in different locations, move them around from time to time, and not have the hassle of running wire through door seams and what not. These were perfect. The night vision is pretty good, not great, but for the price, it gets the job done. I highly recommend them. Very happy.

1st, its not terrible to set up but not easy either. 2nd, I still have not got it to record with motion (it is supposed to.) If you want continuous recording you must pay extra for a plan from Arlo. 3rd, it only records to the cloud. No local recording capabilities so if the internet goes out, your camera might as well be a brick. This might be good for some but not me.

    Cool but falls short

I purchased this camera to be used indoors for security I thought it was really cool at first and then reality sets in the camera in good light captures video in color and the Camera in poor light captures image in black-and-white with the use of the infrared illumination and with a major reduction in the video quality.also if you use the zoom feature in black-and-white and color mode greatly reduces image quality and becomes very grainy almost to the point of being useless. So to get the best image quality you will not Want to zoom in due to the loss of image quality, also I have noticed I was able to walk in my home and walk out with no video capture at all. I have also seen a video in the library of a of the front door without me in the image it completely missed my entry. I am running 20 MB plus as well as my arlo base is directly plugged into my modem ethernet port. I think the camera is cool it is convenient to be able to place almost anywhere but I would prefer an image that I would be able to recognize myself. The best quality I have found in an image is placing the camera as close to your subject as possible and not using the zoom feature and placing at best image quality which does shorten battery life but even then unless you have good lighting you're not gonna be happy with the quality of the image. For now I am going to keep it because it is better than not having a camera at all, but I will be looking for an IP camera that is not powered by batteries and produces a better image that you can already get on your cell phone or I pad.

Easily mounted cameras to tree branches. Amazed how wireless connectivity works at long distances from base. One month of usage so far and battery life still looks strong. Can watch live videos although pretty delayed by 5-10 seconds, and at times up to 1 minute! More useful to watch recorded motion-triggered videos stored on the cloud. Unlike full-blown security DVR, this has no way to map motion sensitivity areas on the screen, so you'll get lots of false motion-detection when sun casts long waving shadows on the ground. I like it because it's wireless, without which I'd have no way to drag a wired camera atop a tree!

Horrible Product and Worse Customer service

This is by far the most unreliable system that anyone can purchase. If it is security you are looking for than this is definitely not the product for you. I originally purchased the refurbished model however had issues with 3 of the 4 cameras motion sensors not working correctly. Thanks to Best buys great return policy I decided to pay a little more and purchase a brand new system instead. Installing (positioning) is horrible especially if you live in a slightly busy area. For two full weeks I would continuously receive false alerts for cars not even in the camera frame! Finally got it corrected and now have been having issues with cross recording. The cameras record however the app decides to provide me the videos at random. What in the world is the point of a security system that will alert me someone is at the door and will record a video but will not allow me to view it? My dog can do this better. Case has been open for 3 weeks and customer support is by far completely worthless. their support center is not in the US and results in receiving responses to my emails sometime at midnight. Their support for the last 3 times is limited to please restart the device and re-pair the cameras. I'm sorry but We should not have to climb on the sides of our homes every 2 weeks to bring the cameras down take them to the station pair again and then spend another 2 weeks trying to get the position right again. Currently I am using the ring doorbell which I love and will be getting rid of this junk and going with the traditional wired cameras. -Missed recordings, false motion detections, HORRIBLE customer service.

This is my second review and update on this product. I've had this product for exactly 2 month. I'm now on my second set of 4 Arlo cameras. The first set was replaced yesterday due to one camera have a red tint to the image. Apparently the IR sensors on these cameras will have hardware issues where the IR sensors will remain on during the day and will not reset itself. Netgear customer service deemed that the camera was defective and wanted me to pay to ship it back to them. I forgot I purchased the replacement plan through best buy but the store will not just replace the 1 camera. Instead, I had to take every thing off the walls and even climb the ladder outside to remove the outdoor cameras in order to pack them all up to get the store to replace just the ONE camera. I mean at the end of the day, I would be getting a whole new set of 4 cameras. Still ridiculous in my opinion. NOW, i reinstalled the new set of 4 cameras to all the same existing locations of the previous 4 cameras. The installation was a breeze and everything setup flawlessly. I even had them all back on the regular schedule. Not even 24 hours and now another camera is giving me issues. I'm very frustrated and cannot believe it. It's a brand new set and within 12 hours one camera is stuck in zoom view. In order. I had to completely reset the camera and resync it back to the base station. It is working now but I shouldn't have to do this to a new system. The actual camera system and the quality is great. It's a seemless installation and easy to use interface. There are just a few hardware kinks that the manufacturer needs to fix on their next revision of the cameras. I would still recommend the product, just be prepared for a few hickups here and there. The battery life is also stellar if you were wondering. My other set of cameras still had a full battery status before returning them and they were used for 2 months.

    Unreliable for security monitoring

The main advantage of the Arlo is the easy setup, because there are no wires involved. The cameras are small, easily placed, and generally are not noticeable in many locations. On the other hand, in 9 months of use, I have had a lot of problems with the Arlo. First and foremost is poor reliability. The system works flawlessly at times, however at other times it disconnects all of the cameras. When this happens the system is not monitoring and requires a reboot to get everything working again. When this happens I am rebooting the system 5 to 10 times per day. Arlo support generally recommends trying several things and then blames a users wifi or network, but as I said my system works fine for a while (like a month), then fails miserably for a while, then begins working again, and so on. The second major issue is battery consumption. The batteries are expensive and the cameras consume batteries even when sitting idle. Finally, this is an expensive system. Try adding another wireless Arlo or the new HD camera, and other systems start looking attractive. Until Netgear improves the reliability and provides a rechargeable battery option I would not recommend this system. Personally, I am looking for a dependable security system to replace the Arlo.

We purchased this Arlo security system recently. It came with 4 cameras and was easy to install. We downloaded the app and we were good to go. Easy set up and configuring of cameras. Love that it is app based so that we can receive alerts of movement by the cameras on our cellphones. Great piece of mind!

    Somewhat useful

I have had this unit for some time now. At first I was elated. Over time however, problems and glitches developed. I will give them credit for dogged customer support but the latest chat-help fell short on solutions. Now I realize that the wireless connection falls off rapidly with distance and the exterior wall. This causes image problems and buffering lags. I have tested the router signal and it seems fairly good so it must be the camera's transmitter. Perhaps because of this I find the unit sometimes fails to trigger the motion sensor- even when a person comes fairly close in within 8 feet. I have adjusted the sensitivity to no avail. Despite this, it picks up cars moving on the side-street located 30 feet away, which I do not want. Like many cameras, it has difficulty with resolution in high-contrast situations - as are frequently found outdoors in the sunlight vs. shadows. It is worse when the day goes by and the camera looks into the sun, even though shaded. The switches and adjustments are not exactly intuitive so I had to keep referencing the Manuel. I have it set to alert my cellphone when motion is detected. After awhile the time to setup review of an incident became annoying because it was picking up so many false alarms. I worked tirelessly on reducing stray detections but the way my house is situated plus the camera limitations make it is hard to do. Read other reviews noting other problem areas. I added the wired Q camera recently and found I had new problems making it jive with the wireless system - partly my fault in forgetting the original set-up details. WOULD RECOMMEND ONLY WITH SERIOUS RESERVATIONS.

Easy to install and setup monitoring system

I purchased this to monitor a home with the cameras mounted outdoors. After figuring out how to set up the cameras (they must be right next to the router when paring cameras) the set up process was easy but time consuming. Installation of the cameras was straightforward placing or screwing in a mount. In only one location was I able to utilize the magnetic button mount, for two others I needed to buy the $19.95 mounting stem. The fourth one I set on a wall but would have rather installed on a pole but there is no clamp mounting option. As to its performance you can see people coming and going but the resolution is not exactly high definition. If you want to be able to positively identify someone, it will be better if you have two cameras monitoring a location, perhaps one close up and the second farther away. One note is the batteries. They are expensive and you will be replacing them every two months or less. Buy an extra set for $60 when you get your system.

    Don't stand behind their product

Bought the set of 4 with the hub. A year later bought one more unit. $500 later and a little over a year one started eating thru batteries in 4 days. I did everything. Tried new expensive Energizer batteries. Turned down the motion sensor to 50 and the camera quality to battery saver. No help. Contacted net gear and they offered a free 4 pk of batteries and told me my $100 plus camera was over their 1 year warranty. So basically tough cookies. You would think something so expensive would have a better warranty unless they know the quality sucks. Half the time the motion sensor even when turned up high doesn't pick up til the thing setting it off is gone unless they're standing around. Don't waste your money. They are an easy setup but these people don't stand behind their product and you go through about $50 or more in batteries in a year when they do work

Was easy to install and operate, but the battery life sucks. I have 4 cameras with 4 batteries each that are used up after 4 weeks....at almost $20 bucks for each camera makes this system very expensive to operate. Mine is going back even though I really like the complete wireless operation.

    Beware of arlo support

I like the Netgear Camera System , but beware of support . When seeking support help, arlo tried to say i had a virus, blameing the failed setup , and preceded to try and sell me a $270 yearly cleaning contract, when after several hours i found i only needed Google Chrome as a browser for this setup . Also the Arlo App will not work on a desktop, as designed for Phone or Ipad , , thus me calling support again , and a entirely different support specialist tried to do the same thing , so just beware !!!!!!!!!!! I dont know if Netgear could make a setup disk for desktop , but it sure would be helpful .

    Not ready for prime time

I had to return this one today after a frustrating few hours. The camera itself works great - easy set up, video quality is good and it provides a nice wide view of the room. However, the software is just not reliable enough yet. My main issue came with the geofencing option - ideally you want this thing to arm automatically when you leave and then go into disarmed mode when you are home. Everything started okay today - went into armed mode when I left for work, disarmed when my wife returned home. However, when I got home it went back to armed mode - which makes no sense - and refused to return to disarm. No amount of resetting or removing and re-adding could get the mode to switch back to disarmed. On another note - the batteries for this device are VERY expensive. Netgear states you cannot use just any C130 batteries - they have to be compatible with Arlo - there are some brands that work that go for $25 for a 4 pack that work - but the recommended rechargeables (by Tenergy) are $50!
