Horrible Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this router to get gigabit wi-fi speeds. Nothing but problems. constantly drops signal, causing Comcast connection issues. Three days on the phone with Comcast IT to re-provision my modem. As another reviewer said, my old router works better than this $200 one. I took it back and replaced it with the netgear n900 router instead. Its been 24 hours now and zero connection issues. As an IT manager I would advise you to steer clear of this router.

Wow, what a waste of money and time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't know if mine was a case of bad out of box or not.....btw save the box always save the box. I installed it and on the very first day it would start rebooting every so often. By the fifth day the rebooting became every two minutes. Two minutes it worked and then it would cycle down and back up all on its own....its that smart! (sic) I called the internet provider in and the first question the tech asked when he was walking in the door was "its not one of those smart routers is it?" I am like yes. He shook his head. He explained the internet light bouncing up and down is one thing he but the fact that the power and the wifi were bouncing at the same time is another. We tried to access the admin screens but couldn't since it would reboot. We then took it off the internet and just had it by is very lonesome, still nothing, just rebooting every 2 minutes by itself, where we could not get into the admin or stay in the admin interface. One thing to point out, this product is total overkill for the home. I have a pretty big home internet pipe.....45Mbps x 15 Mbps. Guess what, that is still less then 2% of what this product advertises it could do. So I went back to best buy, yes, I disposed of the box and receipt so I didn't even try to return it. I bought the Netgear N600, works like a champ like a wifi router should. Difference in cost, $130 dollars and it works! No need to get this temper-mental beast unless you want to have a big billboard that lights up the word NETGEAR and in my case, it was a light show since it would go on and off as the router would reset itself each time.

Router crashes - drops wireless connections.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When a Western Digital My Book Essential 3TB External USB 3.0/2.0 Hard Drive is connected to a USB port on the router, the router crashes when you try to use the disk. The router needs to be powered off and re-started. Also when the HD is connected the first time, it can take 20 minutes or more for the disk to be usable via the router. When the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are used simultaneously, wireless connections become flaky and drop randomly. The above were observed on a network with several devices, e.g. dell/hp/lenovo laptops connected wirelessly, voip adapter connected to a wired port, a wireless connection to a Brother printer and an iphone. Upgrading to the latest firmware on the router and hard drive did not make a difference. Exchanging the router with another new router did not make a difference. Currently am using the router without the external hard drive and also with all wireless devices using only the 2.4 GHz connection.

poor connection issues
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought 2 of these on 7/22/13 and returned it and got another the very next day. They both worked great for maybe 2 or 3 hours and after that the first one dropped internet connectivity over and over again. This was very frustrating because you had to close the browser and restart it to get it working again. Well, I returned the first piece of junk and simply got another thinking maybe I got a bad one. To my avail.... the second did the exact same thing. I mean come on, really!!!!........I put my Belkin G router back and its been working since!!!.... I wanted to replace it with one of these supposedly great gaming ac routers. What a $200 piece of junk. My Belkin G cost $20 bucks and is 7 years old. You do the math there, and guess what its still working!!!!... I have better things to do than to keep going to the store and getting some thing that works for a few hours.

I don't know how this router performs.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never had the chance to use it! I un-boxed it in YouTube video maker fashion expecting a great product as the BestBuy associate said it would be. I lay out the items and check them against the instruction manual. I close the programs on my pc and power down my entire system as instructed to do. I connect the router using the step by step process. IT DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!! So I call customer support. First off I can't understand the person so we change agents. Then, the question is asked after I explained for the second time..."have you gone to our online site to register your router? No I haven't, I am trying to get online with your router. Please escalate the issue." I am told no they couldn't. Reason being that I hadn't registered the item yet. So I ask for a supervisor and I was denied again. So then I ask if it is part of their best practices to have customers return items purchased in the same day because of this silly policy. The young lady said I am able to do what I want so I did. I returned it and decided to stay with the old Linksys router that I had since 2004. I was so upset that after paying the high price of this router just to upgrade while my old router is still working but I couldn't receive customer service from NetGear due to a policy and not escalating the issue is insane. I will not be buying NetGear items at all.

Worked Great for only 10 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Wireless router worked great for 9.5 months then it died! Tried to chat with customer service - what a nightmare. Tried to call -endless loop. Their customer service is a sham. Really deplorable to spend that amount of $ for almost 10 months use. Customer service at Best Buy was very helpful with printing the receipt - I may never get to use it to return the product to the manufacturer but that is what I get for purchasing an expensive Netgear router.

delicate firmware/poor support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a power outage I found that my internet was not working. I was able to trace the problem to this router. Indicated by a flashing green power light. After some research I learned that this means the firmware has become corrupted. Caused by a disruption of power. This product does not come with a support disk and the firmware would need to be downloaded from Netgears support site. Like most I had to go to someone else's home to download the necessary firmware. After having a very difficult time following the instruction to install the firmware into the router, I decided to consult customer support. While searching for a phone number I learn that customer support is only offered free of charge for 90 days. The least expensive way is paying a signal incident charge of $39.95. After speaking with a customer service representative (which is outsourced overseas) I an informed that if the problem is not resolved within 30 minutes I would have to pay again. I feel that this is unacceptable for any product especially one of this cost, I decide not to give Netgear anymore of my money. While at the store to see if they could assist me I learn that this happens quite often in fact there were other in line that have experienced the same problem with Netgear products.

Firmware upload makes into a $200 Paperweight
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was initially an easy set-up. It had a pre setup password, and seperate guest network. I'v been using it for 5 and a half months and suddenly I get the Green Light of death! The firmware somehow corrupted itself and the support website tells you to re-upload the firmware, which must be done through Command Prompt... If you are not a computer programmer this is not Consumer Friendly!!!!. I am pretty computer and electronic savvy, and still was unable to upload the firmware successfully. NETGEAR SUPPORT IS ONLY GOOD FOR 60 DAYS!!!! in which most people wont have a problem. It is because of this that I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS OR ANY OTHER NETGEAR PRODUCT because $200 is too much to pay or risk for 60 days of support. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Crashed and Burned
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After only 4 months of use, my entire wireless network crashed. The R6300 router just blinked and would not work. I tried calling the support line for Netgear, and the only way they will talk to you is if you pay for the support. I then emailed Netgear, which they do allow, and 36 hours later I did receive a response and complex directions. Apparently, "the router firmware has become corrupted." The issue is my wireless router is not directly hooked up to my computer, so I had to go out and buy a 100 ft ethernet wire, so I could hook up my router to the computer and the internet (kind of defeats the purpose of a wireless router if it's going to crash). I never was able to restore the firmware, and Netgear was never able to provide me with a resolution--unless of course i want to pay to talk to their support team. It's an absolute farce, and I will never buy another Netgear product. I have never had a wireless issue like this with any other router I have owned. I guess this Netgear problem is common, as I did read a few bad reviews prior to purchasing--my mistake I guess.

Not Ready
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought first one, did not work right out of box. Returned to Best Buy. Second one worked for 34 days. Then would not connect to the cable modem. Still sorting it out with Netgear customer service..... Do not buy this product. Netgear is using us as free Quality Control and still charging $199 for the router.

Lasted less than a year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Held off review of this router to ensure performance would be maintained over time. Unfortunately it has not. Setup was easy for my in home wireless network, but over time I noticed a degradation in response for my wireless devices. Ran a speedtest today on my laptop and performance was miserable - 3mb down and .4 mb up with major delay in ping and large amount of jitter. Before calling my ISP, I disconnected and set up my older gigabyte router - Netgear N3700. Immediate improvement to what I expect from my ISP - over 30mb down, 11mb up, fast ping and very little jitter. Only conclusion is that the AC router is beginning to fail. I may have bought a lemon, but I definitely do not recommend this. Also note that the wireless range of this is less than that of the N3700.

was told by Best Buy that it had long range-not so
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This unit has a very short range, if I take my lap top to another room or on my balcony, I lose the signal or it gets very slow. It works poorly if there is a wall between the lap top and router - even an interior wall (living room to kitchen table). I could have spent much less money on a lower price unit and had the same service.

Lousy product, worse customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recieved defective product. The USB connections did not work properly. Spent countless hours on the phone with nearly incomprehensible phone support. Finally, they decided my unit was defective. Sent me an RMA # but unless you pay $16.90 for 5-6 business day shipping or $29.90 for next day, you have to pay to send your unit in first, and it is up to 10 business days for your replacement product. My choice is not being able to use my wireless devices for up to two weeks or pay blackmail. Other comments are that has terrible speeds with our IPAD 2 and Iphone 4s. and seems to drop off occasionally for those and other wireless devices. My advice is that unless you want to risk never having a problem , don't buy a Netgear product. I cannot imagine another company that will sell you a defective product, then charge you more so you can have a functioning device.

Died in less than a month
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After the two heavy storms we had at the Shore, it lost Internet connection when the power went off. The first time it finally connected after hours of resetting everything a few dozen times. The second time no matter what I did, it would not connect to the Internet. My modem did not show it was connected. I checked the modem ports, the LAN wire and they are fine. For the ~$200.00 price, this is totally unacceptable. I am going to try to exchange it for another one, so hopefully it works correctly. I like the looks, the way "NETGEAR" lights up and the connection speeds (when it was working), so I'm willing to give it another try. I have an old RP614 that still works, but it does not have wireless. Right now I have my Linksys WRT54G connected again, which the R6300 was replacing.

Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this after many hours of research and was looking to upgrade my wireless network. Wow, what a bad choice! Worked for a week and then all of a sudden started to drop connection. Called support to get runaround for hours with nothing resolved. During the last call I was told they needed to research the problem and would call me back in ten minutes. I knew this would never happen. Setup, support and performance are definitely not what you expect at this point. I thought this was my answer, boy, was I wrong!

Be wary of power outages
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this product on 2/16/13 and on 3/22/13 I came home to find the product dead. The power light on the front of the router was blinking which is an indication the router can not boot. After further investigation I realized the power went out earlier that morning and the router didn't resume gracefully. Turn out the Netgear programmers think its a good idea to be writing to the router's firmware while the router is in use. I searched the internet for ways to fix it and even though I have knowledge of fixing it I would rather give Netgear back their faulty product in lieu of something more reliable when it comes to power outages
