**May be updating this review at a later time, seeing as I just started using this yesterday.** This wifi modem/router combo is very highly regarded for the most part, so I went ahead and picked it up for my XFINITY Blast Internet install. The Blast package I went with allows for up to 75mpbs down, 15mbps up. After the install, all of my devices (and my roommate's) were having major trouble connecting. Our devices would connect, but then drop after a few minutes. I also ran some tests, and the speeds that were coming back were no more than 5-6mbps up and down. I called Comcast tech support, and they ran some requests on their end to the modem remotely, stating that all the connections looked great from their end. They suggested I call Netgear support to help with troubleshooting the actual modem itself, but I've been seeing some horrendous views on their technical support. Again, hopefully it's better today, but so far, the modem hasn't been working very well as far as speed, range, and connectivity.

Good product for the average user. I am not a gamer. Easy setup. No issue running, works good with Netflix. Have had it in operation for over a week now. Better than the Aris I had been renting from TWC, Seems to work faster.

Didn't work for me due to some lack of features.

Works great for Comcast. However, I soon discovered two major problems (at least for me). The year is now 2015 and the first problem for me with this router is that it does not support VPN pass through (out of the box). I was shocked and didn't believe it at all but here's their own FAQ on this topic (http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/24580). My second problem has to do with their locked Guest Network. For whatever reasons, they reserved several blocks of internal IPs for the exclusive use for the Guest Network and there's no way to change it (at least with the build in GUI adminstration tool). So, for me, it was painful to have to re-IP many of equipments that I had setup static IP for use (i.e. Wired Laser Printers, Media Streaming boxes, etc). So, for these 2, I have to give it a 2 stars. If neither of these are important for you, it's a decent product. With Comcast's self installation, you don't even have to call Comcast to get this device setup. The self installation process takes only about 10-15min to complete (mostly waiting for Comcast to program the device remotely).

Don't buy if you have Comcast (xfinity)

I purchased this modem/router combo because it claims to be compatible with Comcast xfinity internet, and it is supposed to perform at 300Mbps per channel. Great. I have 150Mbps download service, should be plenty. So, I get everything set up with my ISP. I do some speed tests on the wired connection (my desktop PC) and get between 140 and 160 Mbps. Then, I set up the wireless network, connect my phone... and wait. There's about a 10 second delay before anything even starts to load, and the speeds topped out at about 30Mbps on wireless, on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. I scoured the internet for any help and tried all of the standard things (power cycle, disable WMM support, disable the 2.4Ghz network, enable guest network and try that), and NOTHING changed. After some further research, I found multiple reports of people having the EXACT same issue on xfinity. From what I gather, since it is a modem/router combo and is DOCSIS 3.0, any firmware updates must be pushed from the ISP, and it seems as though the firmware hasn't been updated to properly support the xfinity network, and there does not seem to be any plans to add full support in the future. Since the hardware should be plenty to handle a 150Mbps downstream connection, the firmware is the likely culprit. I exchanged this modem/router for two standalone units, and now my wireless is 130Mbps... with virtually no lag of any sort. Don't get this if you have xfinity, you will regret it.

Modem is fine... Wifi router is not

I purchased this modem/router after Comcast decided my old modem was obsolete. I decided to get the combo since both my old modem and router were well over 6 years old. I assumed that since this new one was rated for 'large homes' it would work in our house that is less than 1400 square feet. I placed the unit up on a window sill above anything that would block it's signal. Tested its distance.... Got 15 feet down my hall before I lost the signal. Sitting less than 6 feet away from the unit I lose signal frequently. Decided to hook up my old router and now have signal over 100 feet at the end of our property. I hope it's a faulty unit... At this point in time I am not happy about this purchase.

After our cable company issued modem died just days after the warranty expired, we went looking for a router, modem in one. After reading lots of reviews we ended up purchasing this model and it's worked MUCH better than our old modem that cost us twice as much did. This has sped up our basic internet service and is actually saving us money. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a dual modem, router.

    Terrible product

I purchase this router about a year and a couple months ago and about a month for I started having some problems with the router modem. The unit started switching between 2.4 gigahertz and 5 gigahertz without any Rhyme or Reason. I have a lot of smart devices at my house that run off of the WiFi connection such as light switches my thermostat my Irrigation Timer and a vacuum and everything initially was connected to the 2.4 gigahertz but then it's switched randomly to the five without me doing so and everything lost its internet connection until I had to log into each device manual and switch to the 5 but then it does the same thing back to 2.4 I contacted Netgear about it and they say there's a 90-day warranty with the product which is complete garbage, that basically means they have no faith in their product and in 90 days you're on your own because they got your money. The connection speed I have on the modem router is terrible, I have Comcast and I have the Blast internet and I'm supposed to get fast internet connection but it only adds up to be 30 to 40 Mbps and it's supposed to be more than double that. This says it's sponsored by Xfinity to use on their service but it's really not worth the price tag it sold for. I cannot get through to anybody over the phone everything is email based with Netgear and they don't even talk to you if it's over 90 days so a customer service is pretty much non-existent for this product and you have to know that going into Netgear I found that out the hard way but this is my last Netgear product I will ever buy. For what I paid I could have possibly got a modem and router separately which I think I might go that route and get a single band so it doesn't switch between Networks, I don't know why this router does that. This is just my experience with the products that I've been using for a while take this under consideration or don't it's up to you but this is my last Netgear product I will never buy another one again.

Poor speed on WiFI. Please read this before buying

Let me give brief background on myself. I am a software engineer and testing modems/routers/mobile phones are my day to day to activity. So i have good knowledge about modems/routers. This device is a cable modem + Router . I must say it works good as a modem but works very poor as a wifi router. I tested this device thoroughly with xfinity 75 MBPS connection. Speed over wired LAN is good and reaches upto 89 MBPS max. But speed over WIFI cannot even cross above 40 on 5GHz channel. Speed on 2.4 GHz is even poor. I followed up with netgear technical team, they suggested me some settings like changing wifi channel, changing MTU size but nothing helps. My verdict - DO NOT BUY THIS DEVICE as this device fails to deliver the speed it promises. Here are my testing results : Over Wired LAN : IPV4 / IPV6 --> 89 MBPS Over WiFI (5GHZ ) : IPV4 - 15 MBPS IPV6 - 89 MPBS Over WIFI (2.4 GHz) : IPV4 - 5 MBPS IPV6 - 13 MPBS I am ready to accept this challenge. Anyone using this device on comcast or TWC, share your wifi speed test results. If you guys still don't beleive me, please check Netgear forums for number of complaints on this device. This equipment is awesome! It was super easy to hook up. Had to call internet provider to register it so it would work. THE SIGNAL IS THE BOMB! This is like nothing I EVER rented from my internet provider. I get a signal from one part of the house alllll the way to the other. I had to use boosters before buying this. If I had only known...... I would have purchased this years ago!

    I Regret Purchasing

Like many people, I thought that it would make more sense to purchase a modem/router than to pay Xfinity an extra $10 a month. I have a friend who is actually more competent at setting up networks than Xfinity techs, so this saved me another $40. It seemed like a no-brainer. I read mixed reviews on this product, but decided to take a chance being that I would be the only one using my server and only live in an 800sq ft apartment. The sales girl immediately tried to talk me into purchasing a unit that cost $100 more and I explained that I lived alone in a small apartment and would never be using more than two devices at the same time over wifi (typically only one). When she rolled her eyes and was simultaneously texting her boyfriend while talking to me, I almost walked out of the store, but I really wanted to get a home network set up that evening. This product has been extremely unreliable. I have to reset it AT LEAST once per day and often just end up using Wifi from an Xfinity Hotspot (in my own apt), which defeats the purpose of even having a router. I'm actually connected to Xfinity's Hotspot as I type this review because I cannot connect to my own server. I am taking foreign language lessons via Webcam and have had sessions with my instructor interrupted several times. I really wish I had returned the modem/router within the 14 day period and just rented Xfinity's product, but I frequently travel for work and wasn't able to. From the reviews, it appears that this has worked for some people, but it has been a disaster for me (and keep in mind I am typically only using one device at a time and my apartment is only 800 sq ft). Fortunately my friend was smart enough hook up my Apple TV directly with an ethernet cord, so it isn't dependent on this product.

    Cable modem is VERY unstable

    Posted .

I bought this modem on February 10, 2016 in hopes that it would be a good bang for the buck cable modem/wifi router. I am on Time Warner Cable in Columbus, Ohio (former Insight network) and the device has the Time Warner logo and approval on the box. It ran fine for about 35 days or so, (at least I never caught it rebooting itself), then became very unstable. It randomly reboots itself and sometimes gets stuck to where you have to physicaly power it off and power it back on to get it to run again. Long story short, Time Warner tech reps have been to my house twice, signals are strong, TV is fine, they can see that the Netgear is randomly dropping connectivity in their history and this never happened when I rented their Arris modem. Finally, I called Netgear for support, I was outside of my Best Buy 45 day window, otherwise I would have just returned it and been done. It is difficult to get to someone at Netgear who actually knows what they are doing, many calls, dropped calls, finally they ship me a replacement. I pay $29.99 for the overnight shipping, I get the modem and guess what, it won't even provision onto the Time Warner Cable Network! I then call in argue with 2 or three different reps who apparently never read the case history, and then finally they ship me another modem (this time a retail box like I bought at Best Buy). This modem provisions just fine, everything works well at first, I ship the two old modems back to NetGear and I think I am good. NOPE! So it has been just two days running on this new modem and it locked up again, same exact story, nothing is different. I called Time Warner, they can see that it dropped off their connection and nothing more. So, the point is, if you are on a former Insight Communications area that is now Time Warner Cable, I would stear clear of this device.

If you're an average home user with minimal need for wired devices, this product is perfect. The inclusion of a separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz network are welcome additions. However, having only 2 wired ports on the built in router is limiting. And the fact that you cannot change the guest network's third octet is annoying, even after disabling it. Also this product has known issues with VPN access. Netgear has a hotfix on their support page and that seems to have helped with connection but I still was unable after hours of network settings changes to use any of my work resources - so back this product goes to the store.

The install and control software are simple enough but the unit drops the signal too frequently. Speaking to OEM Support about that issue and the poor reception during initial set up was no help. Had a good Motorola modem and Cisco E4200 router (from BB) prior to this and never needed to add a range extender. Goal was to get a quality single unit and clean things up a bit. But fighting for connections when the signal drops is a pain nobody deserves to go through on a regular basis. I should have returned it before the 14 days ran out. I expected more from the brand. There are too many other units to choose from.
