    Disappointing WiFi

Using Comcast cable the download speed is 90 Mbps to my desktop using the Ookla speed test. The Comcast WiFI signal from this router/modem is unpredictable. The average WiFi speed on my smartphone using the Ookla app is around 8 Mbps it has been as low as 1.5 Mbps. Before I purchased this device the Comcast router/modem delivered 45 Mbps every time to my smartphone.

Very unreliable product-should be taken off market

Bought this cable modem router about 4 months ago and since then has been always a problem. I bought this modem at BB and came home to hook up to comcast. After struggling for more than an hour called Netgear help desk. Going through multiple troubleshooting steps, the helpdesk suggested that I return the modem to BB and get a new one, or they would be happy to send a refurbished one. BB exchanged the modem. The 2nd modem hooked up without any issues. But about 45-60 days later the internet shut down. Spent almost 2 hours troubleshooting with Netgear help desk and getting it to work again. Worked good for 15 days and then died. Again spent more than an hour with Netgear helpdesk to revive it. For the last 15 -30 days, the internet goes down on a daily basis. Have to reboot the modem to connect again to the internet. It has become quite a nuisance. Going to throw it away as soon as I get a replacement. What a waste of hard earned $129. NEVER AGAIN BUY A NETGEAR PRODUCT.

    Range Very Poor

The range on this Modem is very poor. From the room to the bottom of the stairs I lose service immediately, not more than 50ft from the modem. I have to keep going back to the stairs to reconnect....very annoying. I definitely will be returning this modem.

    Not very good

I would have to say this router is not very good. The wireless speed is 25% of what my LAN speed is. The range is pretty bad. No more than 25 feet away, through zero walls, the signal drops in and out. Streaming video over the same distance, you have to buffer two times in a parks and rec episode.

    Requires reset twice a day

Our cable was functioning fine. We thought we could save some money and avoid the modem rental fee by purchasing this item. We set it up and it worked for about a week. Now it requires a reset at least twice a day. You'll be online and then it will say that there is no internet service. Once you unplug it and power it back up, you can get back online. I work from home and need a stable internet connection so this is not a usable piece of gear. They say you get 60 days of tech support....but it's a joke. Try to reach someone, go ahead. There is no phone number to be found on their website. I spent time entering in the information and jumping through all their hoops, just to finally get to the page that has a link for "Call Us" and I'm given a "FATAL ERROR" message. Do not buy this product. Get something else.

    Disappointing performance

I replaced a four year old linksys with this device and found it has a weaker signal, slower rates, and tends to drop connections. It was hooked up identically in all respects. I was very surprised, and even more surprised to receive an email from Netgear cautioning me not to use the 5-G capbility.

    Died after 3 months

Bought the product in January 2016. Had intermittent problem on disconnecting. I have to power cycle the unit once in a while. I called customer support and told them about it. They don't know what is causing the problem. They blamed the internet provider. On April 2016, the unit died and will not turn on. Customer support told me to ship the unit at my expense and they will send me a replacement after they received it. The replacement came after 12 days and it was also bad. I have to sent it back and get a new one. This time they pay for the shipping. I was out of internet for more than two weeks. Worse the warranty still starts on the date of purchase and not after you get the replacement. The replacement is a refurbished and not brand new. Will never buy Netgear brand again.

    Look for another router/modem

    Posted .

I bought this around July 2016 because I was looking for a reliable product. Dropped wifi occasionally and I thought it was my cable provider. Kept calling them for technical assistance. It would take 30 minutes and numerous attempts to reset and acquire the wifi. Less then 4 months later it continuously drops the wifi connection and is difficult to reset. Usually takes 4-5 attempts of disconnecting power cable and cable connection. I have wired it directly to the cable no splitters still no change. Followed manufacturer instructions still drops connection. Going to purchase a new router modem but not from this manufacturer.

Turned out to be a lemon

I got it today and it worked fine for like 15 mins. Yes, it was way faster than the Comcast modem, but then it lasted only for 15 mins. This is going back to best buy tomorrow. What a waste!!

    Bad

I'm very disappointed with this item. The wi-fi signal is significantly weaker than what I had with previous rental equipment. Amazon Firestick doesn't work with this wi-fi on 5ghz--there is constant buffering. Hard wired Roku box can't play Netflix without intermittent buffering. I don't know if I got a lemon or if this is a genuinely bad product but I am very unhappy with it. I wish I had returned it to Best But within the 15-day window but I'm a few days past that now. My advice if you have the money is to buy a separate modem and router--this combo doesn't work well, at least with my Xfinity service.

Worthless Cable Modem - No VPN Passthru

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I was told this unit works with Comcast. After installing the unit, I discover that the unit does not support VPN passthrough. According to the Netgear KB, the latest firmware fixes this. Unfortunately, you can't download that from Netgear; it has to be downloaded by Comcast. Spent 2 hours on the phone with Comcast, who were clueless. What an absolute waste of time.

    Doesn't work with Xfinity

Like others, I have poor wifi speeds. I'm getting 4 mbs download and (oddly) a faster upload of 10 mbs. I get close to 150 mbs with a wired ethernet. The NetGear support board is full of complaints as well and there seems to be no solution. As I was troubleshooting this problem, the modem now fails to lock onto the signal at all. Comcast said everything is working and I need to contact Netgear. Because the modem was purchased earlier this year, Netgear will only provide support for a fee.

    **** DO NOT BUY***

Do not buy this product. The reviews that talk about the wireless network dropping are 100% true. I will add that it is impossible to get any support from Netgear. I'm now stuck with a $100 ugly paper weight. I didn't start using it for 60 days after purchase and the warranty / return deadline has passed. That is my mistake for purchasing before i was ready to use it.

    Disappointing

Though I didn't make this purchase from Best Buy, I'd like to voice my concerns here. I''ve had the unit for over a year. and have experienced difficulty from the beginning with several calls to Netgear support. I would not recommend this unit as it continues to be problematic, dropping signals in direct distance of less than nine feet away, and in the rest of 1100 square foot house.
