It's ok but a little misleading

For starters, it does increase your wifi range. However, the speeds are reduced dramatically. Up in my bedroom I was getting around 1-2 bars on wifi. Added this 4-5 consistent. But streaming anything was unbearable. Removed this from my network and streaming speeds returned to normal. So while it technically does what it's supposed to do, it's misleading in inferring that it will maintain the same speeds. I wound up buying a better router to give me 4-5 bars all over my house.

    Good product but slower speed

The product seems to extend the wifi range quite well. I can now use the wifi in my backyard. However, my other devices that connect to my original wifi seems to slow down a bit due to the speed is not split between the extender and the original wifi.

Easy Set Up and Good Price

Recommending because we weren't sure based on reviews if this would work but for our first extender, we figured we'd take a chance on it not being so expensive. It took 15-20 minutes tops to set up between connectivity and explaining how to use it within the house. Follow instructions step by step and it will work. A little patience because it does take a minute for lights to stop blinking or turn green but it will get there. We haven't moved it yet into farther rooms but the signal seems to be strong where it is now and it helping our multiple device household!

    Would not waste the money

I bought this to extend a signal from the second floor Wifi Modem, to the downstairs area and the outside patio. My setup is: StarTech Dual Band Wireless Adapter USB (Dual 5" Antennae, High Output) My wireless adapter alone can pick up two bars from my Wifi Modem, and I get about 20 MPBS stable Download Speed, with 11+MBPS Upload. Now, I didn't have a problem with connection drops etc, I just wanted to extend the range and get higher speeds and more bars. I DID get full bars where I had the extender set up. However, the speed was actually slower going through the extender. I specifically bought this model because it was N compatible and advertised 300MBPS Link Speed. However, no matter what I did, I COULD NOT get it to switch to the 300mbps mode, it stayed on 154mbps. I tried so many work arounds to get it to switch, and it would refuse every time. That is one issue, the next issue is how unreliable this thing is. If you're a gamer, I wouldn't recommend this AT ALL. You get connection drops, lag spikes, etc about every 5 minutes on a bad day, on a good day its about every 20 min. It's so unstable, it just isn't worth it. Bottom Line, I am going to return this product. I will try a different brand, not NETGEAR. It solved my problem by giving me more bars, however if it's incapable of delivering speeds it advertises and drops connection frequently, with only ONE device connected, it's nothing but a $65 paper weight. PASS.

    Fairly Simple to Install

I purchased the Netgear N300 Range Extender last week with free shipping and received it a few days later. It took about 30 minutes to install including the time it takes to read the instructions. My router was in my basement of a two-story house. The device fixed the weak signal I was getting on my second floor. So far it works great although it's only been a day.

This provided a great signal to the other end of the house. Setup was easier than I thought. Just connect to the NETGEAR_EXT network and follow the prompts. The small profile made it easy to plug in anywhere.

Bought for the back bedroom as signal a little weak. First time buying an extender. Turned out to be easy to setup and have not experienced drop signals. Very happy with this purchase.

    Works like a charm

This was some of the best tech money I've ever spent. The laptop in my study was only getting a wifi speed of 8 to 10 mbps. This Netgear extender more than doubled it to consistently over 20 mbps. Installation was simple; basically plug-and-play, although I did have to restart it once. If you've got slow or sketchy wifi in your house, but have a good connection to the internet at your router, then this is what you need to get up to speed.

    Horrible customer service

I spoke to 4 hard-to-understand technical "experts" trying to get this to work. I thought it was an easy installation? I had them telling me the first one was faulty and to go get another. I did. Then the next "expert" tells me my computer isn't updated. After over 2 hrs on the phone with various Indian experts, I am returning this p*of s* . Not any of the 4 really knew what they were talking about. Unless you are technically advanced, I would not buy #nor am I recommending# this company. Oh, by the way, not even the Geek Squad could help me install over the phone. They wanted $99 to come out.

Doesn't Meet Specifications - Over Rated

I purchased this range extender about 2 months ago and it has never worked properly. It currently does not work at all. I initially set it up online at Netgear web site. Just recently, I did a factory reset and set it up again. I was having problems with the 2.4 band; only receiving about 15-25 mbps. My comcast internet speed is 60 mbps. The 5 band was receiving about 40 mbps. I checked my modem/router speed at 60+ mbps. I also tried the Netgear "fast lane" option in settings that combines both bands for optimal performance. This did not work either. I could not even connect to my roku device. Switched backed to split bands and still doesn't work on either band. I thoroughly checked all settings. Unit appears defective. I called customer support and they insisted the unit was not defective. I am currently connected straight from my router with a combined steering band that receives over 50 mbps. This Netgear unit does not perform to reasonable standards. I have set up many devices without ongoing problems. I would not recommend the purchase of this Netgear range extender. This was a waste of money and over rated.

    Greasy Money Grubbing Tech Support

The extender works fine - its the greasy scummy technical service that I would rate lower than a 1 if I could. I recently moved and when I needed to change the Network name on the wifi extender - I couldn't figure out how to change it. I called technical support - which tells you straight out they expect you to pay for their help by buying a scum sucking grass tech support CONTRACT. I used chat instead, which led to a technical support guy calling me. He wanted to get on my computer screen using a screen sharing program - which was totally unnecessary then tried to prove to me that I should BUY at a price of 99.99 149.99 or 299.99 a security protocol for my IP address. He claimed that it would be impossible to set up the wifi extender without this. I refused, went to the product and hit the RESTORE FACTORY SETTINGS button and was able to set up the extender as I always have. The product works fine -- its the SCUM SUCKING GREASY MONEY GREEDY Technical support that is SHAMEFUL

    NO CONNECT

I'm no idiot when it comes to hooking up wireless extenders and routers. I've done it for a couple of homes. This product didn't work for me. they gave me two options of hooking it up to my existing wifi and both did not work. I'm sure there's a reason from their end but that doesn't help the average Joe trying to just hook this up and use it. Move on to something else from anybody other than Netgear. I'm returning this and getting something else.

Should be N12, not N300 - speed not as advertised

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Nowhere near the advertised 300 Mbps - more like 10-12 Mbps. I thought maybe the problem was my Comcast router (the initial reason I bought this), but I just got Ziply fiber installed and it's really fast - but I could still use an extender for the other side of the house. Just reset and configured, this extender only provides 12-15 Mbps according to internet speed tests, in the same room as the main router - and that gets worse when I move the extender to another room where it's needed. Don't believe the hype. If you're getting something like 8-12 Mbps in another room and think this router will help boost that speed, it won't.
