I was nervous about setting it up because it is my first router. I'm a computer novice. But all I did was follow the simple directions and it worked like a charm. I have a laptop, smart phone, and 3 other devices connected and have had no problems of any kind.

For wireless access, this is a good router. However if you are buying this to use as a DLNA server, then its not customizable. It reads the entire external disk(s) connected. You cannot choose which directories should be streamed on DLNA. There is no customization on whether you want to stream only movies or photos.

Easy to set up, but that is all I have to say about it that is good. It had no range whatsoever, even through an open archway - line of sight for about 40 feet. Finally gave up and returned it.

My Netgear - N900 Dual Band Wireless-N Router with 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch was great buy and works flawlessly in my moderate sized home. I can use my laptop, iPhone, or iPad in any room of our home with problem free Wi-Fi reception on all. Good value for the seamless operation you get. Would highly recommend.

Set up is never as easy as they make it look (at least not for me). Unfortunately, the support at Geek Squad that I spoke with on the phone was no help at all. Once I got a hold of the NetGear tech support they were able to get me up and running pretty quickly. So far we haven't had any problems.

This router has great range and the 2.4ghz channel is flawless. I have had issues with the 5ghz channel and had to change the channel and name of the network for some reason according to the Netgear support. The 5ghz wasn't even connecting when I had to do this. The 5ghz will still occasionally drop for a second which isn't a big deal normally but when I'm gaming I get kicked off. I have tried a TP-Link and Asus router and they were just horrible. This router is getting nearly 100% of the 5ghz speed about 20 feet away through 2 huge walls. I would only recommend it because every other router I've tried is just horrible. If there was a router that had no issues I would recommend that one even if the performance isn't as good. I'd take a constant connection at good speeds then a spotty connection at amazing speeds.

Easy set up. Works as advertised. Don't know about improved speed (at least nothing vastly noticeable). Wish they've maintained one key feature of earlier model, which is to be able to manage and name the device allowed on the router (versus not knowing who's device is on router - if the device is not named that is...)

I use it as an access point. It took a while to set it up, but in the end, it was worth it. I highly recommend getting this router. Net Genie is also a great tool to view what is connected to your router.

This router is the perfect device for my home. Previously was using Comcast all in one "surfboard" router and it was garbage. Fastest downloads I have ever experienced and I was elated to find that there was an app for my iPhone. Now when my kids are misbehaving I can change my router settings from anywhere!!

    Netgear WNDR4500 v2

I upgraded from a Netgear WNDR37AV v2 to this WNDR4500 v2 when I found out it was not compatible with the Google Chromecast. After installing the WNDR4500 I had no problems connecting the chromecast to my wireless. Both WNDR routers have DLNA server capablilities but the WNDR4500 streams video much better.
