Excellent router - don't look any further!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router has a very strong wireless range, and it's highly reliable. This may change with future firmware releases, but as of October 2011 the firmware is working fine. Download speeds are excellent, and I'm able to watch movies from my flash drive plugged into the back of the router. I have had this router plugged in for over a month now with no reboots and there has not been a single flaw found. After going through many different routers by several other manufacturers, I'm glad I finally found one that is robust and works well.

Great router with some good features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I arrived at this router because of price, experience with Netgear, and reviews. While no router is perfect, there is certainly good things to say about this one. The router comes with SSIDs already setup for both 2.4G and 5G networks and provides you a password on the packaging. Once setup and running, speed tests over hard wire and wireless put me at about 30Mbps with our RR connection at home. I was blown away. We also have VOIP setup at home. The one thing I had to change is to turn off the SIP ALG on the router as it interferes with the phone service. Once off, phone service worked like a charm. I have two laptops and a desktop all on wireless. The desktop is on the 5G network. Digging in to the router, there are some cool features. The two I used right off the bat were to setup the Netgear Genie on my laptops and my smart phone. Very cool to be able to check out how the network is setup without having to login directly to the router. The other feature I liked was the OpenDNS feature which allows parent filtering. Very nice to be able to filter from the router and not have to worry about Windows apps to install. Very happy. Now, on to the my bad experience. When I first opened up the router and plugged it in, the power light flashed at me for longer than I cared to watch. After doing some research online, I found out the firmware was corrupted right out of the box. I was like wow! Really? I followed some simple instructions to flash the firmware with the latest version using tftp directly to the router and I was up and running in a hurry. This was the only reason why I'm not giving this router a 5 star rating as I thought that was ridiculous. Aside from that issue, the experience has been great.

Great router so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced a recently purchased but very problematic Linksys router with this one. It is performing great - - much more dependable than the 2 new Linksys routers that I have been fighting for last 8 months. Only one complaint -- router dash board continues to show that I have a router firmware update ready to download, but when I attempt to download, it says my firmware is up to date. NetGear tech support can not determine the issue or solution -- finally told me I'd have to either return the router to BB or just live with the message always being there. Other than that minor issue, which apparently is not affecting the performance, I am pleased with this router.

Best router I've owned.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've tried most of the top routers and for me this one has the best signal. My setup prior to this was current gen apple airport extreme base station, extended with the previous gen AEBS due to signal and speed degradation. Prior to this I'd tried the asus r56-u or whatever it is, Linksys e4200 and a few others. The AEBS beat those for me. I bought the N900 to try and wow it is quite a bit stronger signal wise and allows me to get much better speeds in all corners of my home. I updated the firmware straight away and have been rocking ever since. I haven't even noticed any signal dropouts. It's a keeper.

Cool wireless router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded to this router because my other one was my reaching my entire upstairs and downstairs. This has boost the signal strength in most areas but still does not do well in my daughter's room for some reason. It was very easy to install. And I love the genie app that I can have my wireless printer print something from my iphone or my ipad using this router feature. I also like the two signals this offers.

Never Crashes, Awesome speed in every room
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I used to have a Linksys WRT54GS, I though that was enough since my Internet plan is only 25 Down 5 up, the WRT was giving me (7mbps down, 4 up). As soon as I plugged in the Netgear N900, I got 35mpbs sustained down and 6 up. I love the USB ports to connect an HD, btw it transfer at 65mbps. I have not reset the modem since I bought it. The old linksys needed a reset every other day. Everything Loads so fast and as soon as I click it (low ping)

Excellent router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router has great speed and range. It was super easy to set up. Netflix streaming performs well with it through my bluray player. I highly recommend this router for anyone who needs the extra speed. I also upgraded my modem to DOCSIS 3.0 at the same time and upgraded my laptop with a Netgear USB adapter. I am sure those upgrades made a difference as well!

Great wireless router. You get what you pay for.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I paid a bit more than I wanted for this router, but it has been worth it. The sales people had me convinced that a router was a router, but I have discovered that isn't true. I have Comcast 20 MbPS internet service but was not getting near that speed over my wifi. I purchased a new Linksys router for about $65 but saw no wifi speed improvement. The Linksys was also a real pain to set up and configure. So I reluctantly purchased this high-end dual band Netgear router for $150. It was easy to setup and the Netgear user interface program is great. I immediatly saw a nice boost in my wifi speed. (I use Speedtest.com to verify my internet speeds.) The router has performed flawlessly and I've never had to re-boot it in the 2 months that I've owned it. I am very pleased with this router. NOTE: When comparing posted data transfer speeds, for dual band routers they usually post 2x the single band speed, which assumes you are running over both bands simultaneously (not likely). But this router advertises as 450 Mbps....in fact it is the equivalent of 900 Mbps if using both bands. This explains the price versus some "600 Mbps" routers that cost less.

Great Router for Home Use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was looking for a router that had better range and was faster than my previous Linksys router. Boy did we find it. My xbox connects faster, my signal strength throughout the house is terrific. Easy setup & easy to change the password to match the old router to avoid having to change about 10 different devices.

WoW!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router as a replacement for my recently deceased WNDR3700 which is an outstanding router. I read the reviews and I was very apprehensive as I had read a number of the bad reviews but I trust the Netgear brand so I went for it. Well let me say it is amazing. I had read a number of reviews that stated they had trouble connecting but I had no issues as a matter of fact I was up and connected after literally 30 seconds after powering the router up. The speed is outstanding. As good as my speeds were with the WNDR3700 the speeds are even better with this router. With the WNDR3700 I got full speed at 5GHZ and a but less than half that at 2.4GHZ but with the WNDR4500 I get full speed at both frequencies. I also get only 1 bar less range difference between the 2 frequencies. This is an outstanding router.

The Best!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The router has been in 24/7 use for about a week; no problems. I used the manual installation and found, if you are an experienced user, it to be easy and intuitive. For security, I changed all the settings to unique values. I strongly suggest you do the same. The router needed two firmware upgrades during the set up process. These are important! Wireless security is constantly being improved upon. Using my smart phone as a SSID sniffer, I chose a 2.4GHz channel that was empty; this will ensure maximum coverage. Be aware the 2.4GHz band is shared with cordless phones, wireless TV cameras, and other devices; the 5.0GHz band and WPA2 protocol is a better bet for supported devices. The router will simultaneously broadcast on both bands, if needed for compatibility with certain devices. With the router in a “line of sight” location, the range was around a quarter of a mile. This is not a router; it is a radio broadcast station! Be aware that placing the router in a “steel and concrete” building or in a basement will decrease the speed and shorten the range. I found the “lost password” feature superfluous. Write down the password in several places and you won’t lose it and need to use this, so-called “feature.” This is a hefty, big, and well constructed unit with a Godzilla grade power supply. It mounts vertically and I used double-faced tape to secure the base. If you need a mission-critical wireless router, with scads of features, this the router to get.

So far, so great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After a lot of troubleshooting with our Internet provider to no avail, we purchased this along with a new modem. Both were very installation-friendly and now work like a charm. I wish that I would have skipped the troubleshooting and went straight to Best Buy and purchased this from the start. Our network is working at optimal speed now.

Very Fast and Great Experience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to set up, switched to a linksys and then back, this blows it out of water in terms of range and overall performance. Only thing I have noticed is that when on Xbox Live it tends to disconnect if Im not online, Im sure its a setting to change but thought Id share.
