    Life Saver

When my internet became spotty and I was constantly giving "heat" to Comcast, I did some research on my own and found my dinosaur router was the problem (13 year old Buffalo), something we don't think about and can be fixed in a matter of 45 minutes; instead we blame others, and it becomes a back and forth with blaming and faulting others. Getting to the root of the problem, I apologized to parties involved and got the router which has not given me any problems to date, but also got it at a great price, for a new modern sleek and almost invisible look.

failed after 1 year and 18 days

I know I am stupid enough since I didn't bought the extended warranty. However, this product failed after 1 year and 18 days(I bought on April 9, 2015) was unexpected for me. Netgear only provided 1 year warranty. I have tried every way I can figure out(I am the system software engineer but not about networking) but there is no signal. Not a bit even from 1 inch away. 1) I did check the enabled broadcast for wifi; 2) It failed during night time; 3) I did reboot(hard and soft way); 4) I did reset to the original setting; 5) Everything else is great except the wifi signal. Now I have to use my old 6 years old $20 Linksys instead of this elite 1 year 18 days old $129.99. Maybe I will tear down this box sometime soon. The only thing I can imagine is the transmitter problem I really don't understand.

Once I got this router set up with all my devices it works well. It was difficult to set up though. I had to call Netgear's help line several times and each time I called I was given either contradictory or bad information regarding channel settings, encryption, etc. I finally got it to work right with my iPhone when I called Apple and they said to set channels on both bands to "auto." Why can't the Netgear help desk tell me that? It was like night and day once I made that change. If you don't need a super range, go with Linksys, they are a lot easier to set up.

Bought this router to replace aging Linksys WRT54 (used as wireless access point). Wanted to use the N900 as access point also but quickly realized that this was not possible with the N900. After setting everything up and a few days in, all the internal devices would lose access to the internet/WAN. Opened a problem ticket and, after about a month of testing beta software it is now stable. (Problem: Router is not able to reach ISP DNS, then drops all outbound connections) WAN side administration is only available on ports higher than 1024 (i.e. no 443 or 80)

I purchased this product to upgrade from the N300 which could no longer handle the 3 iPhones, 3 laptops, PS3, Wii, and blu-ray player that was running off of it. I bought it and had it up in running within about 10 minutes. I haven't had any problems since installing and I haven't lost connectivity or had "limited" connectivity since we started using it. The router didn't require a startup disk and the directions would have been relatively simple to follow even for a beginner.

Full Disclosure, I've always used Linksys routers. But, because I wasn't happy with my last Linksys router, I decided to switch... this is almost as bad. I've been through my fair share of WiFi network set-ups, and this one has been the easiest by far. Unfortunately, the 5Ghz range is extremely poor. This comes as a HUGE surprise to me because this router is rated highly for it's 5Ghz range. Am I missing something? I'm getting at least twice the signal strength off of the 2.4Ghz signal coming out of this. The other issue I've had is, it needed to be reset already. This is unacceptable in my opinion. I set everything up on the first day, and left it like that for the past week. Suddenly though, I can no longer connect to the 2.4Ghz band, and the 5Ghz band has become extremely unstable. It's as if I've suddenly become "Wifi-jammed" by one of my non-existent evil-genius neighbors. I've reset the router to factory settings and started over from scratch to no avail. The 2.4Ghz band is still unreachable, and the 5 is still unstable. This is a problem considering my iPhone and older computer only run on 2.4. Only my new laptop will run on the 5... all the use that gets me. I will be returning this router. It's a dissapointing first (and last) jump into the Netgear line. If only other brands had a UI as easy as Netgear's Genie... and I really don't want to go back to Linksys either. Not sure where to go after this...

This is a good router. I had to reset the router because it was blocking windows update when I first installed it. No explanation as to why but it was fixed after the reset. If you are new to home networking this might take you some time to get it set up and running. The network part is easy but you will need to install Netgear's software on each cpu using the ports on the router. A great router. I love the guest account access for when friends or family come over.
