I must have gotten a bad one or something...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded my old Netgear router to the 4500 hoping it would give me a boost in performance for my Comcast 50 Mbps internet. It didn't. When I connect my PC directly to my Motorolla sb6121 Modem I get blazing 48-58 Mbps internet speeds. When I connect my 4500 to the modem at best I get half that, for both wired and wireless. Yes, I loaded the newest firmware. I rebooted, unplugged, reset to default, several times to no avail. After 24 hours my internet went to zero. Nothing would load. I could connect to the router and I could see the 3 other other devices on the network, not no access to the net. I put a support ticket in to Netgear and no response after 48 hours. The router is in my car and I will be returning it to BB tonight after work. I would get another Netgear, except they won't help or reply to any requests for help.

Not as good as other routers at the price point
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router to replace the Netgear N300 model. Right away after the setup (which isn't too bad for one device) devices started having trouble connecting. I ended up spending several hours assigning IPs to each device because it looked multiple devices were trying to use the same IP and kept pulling it out from under each other. After thhat, I spent another hour trying to get my Linksys WGA600N to work with the router. Finally, a few days later my home and work laptops started dropping connections, and then the Xbox. I finally returned the router and for a few extra bucks I picked up the Asus RT-N66R. One-click setup and everything worked with no fuss. I'm so much happier.

A wireless BRICK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this router last week, It installed quickly and easily. It connected right up to the internet and easily to my computers. After two days it needed a reboot, having lost internet connection. last night it lost internet connection and after screwing around with it for 4 hours without success, I put my old WRTD610N back in place and boxed it back up, its going back today! Not spending this kind of money for a unreliable device. when the problem occurred, Wireless worked fine, just no internet. The Genie software showed no internet connection and could not resolve the issue. The browser based GUI showed it had an internet connection when it clearly did not. Like I said, its a wireless brick!

Failed during warranty. Netgear asked +$130 to fix
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product failed 7 months after I bought it, Warranty is 1 year but tech support is 90 days. Netgear refused to fix it unless I paid $130+ for tech support. Buy at your own risk.

Great product for only 1 year
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router at the end of July 2011 since it had such great reviews. In Aug of 2012 it stopped working. After spending and hour or so on the phone with Netgear tech support they said I was out of luck and they couldn't do anything for me since the warranty had expired a couple of weeks prior. For the price of this router, I was quite dissapointed to say the least! I will not be purchasing another netgear router.

Bad
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will be bringing this back, had a horrible time getting it set up. Even called geeksqaud for help, a lady hung up laughing. The only one who help me to figure it out and the system still acts up is my son.. Spending more for something less stupid

Stay away from this
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this product because I wanted to setup multiple WAP's, setup was not direct/easy to sync up with their N300's. When everything was finally setup it dropped the internet. The Internet is connect via patch cable to the Netgear Router/Modem, physical and it still loses connectivity? It randomly works and then shuts down. Many reviews out there show this is a common problem and Netgear has not pushed out any patches to fix the issue. Read other reviews and do a search regarding HP network printer with this product. It seems they do not care. I will be migrating back to Cisco products.

Decent router - but not all it is cracked up to be
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As I said it has some outstanding features, but at times it bounces you off the wireless connection. Why? Don't know. Fantastic USB for external HD and USB printer connection. However, can't get the cloud (netreadyshare) connected with this router.

Not recommend for use with Apple Computers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the WD N900 router because the box stated that it would work with Windows and Mac operating systems and the fact that it has two (2) USB ports; I wanted to use the router to connect a wireless backup drive and wireless printer. Our household has a new iMac running OS 10.8 Mountain Lion, an iPad 3, an iPhone 5 and a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7. Initial wireless network connection was established and the N900 router communicated with all Apple products and the Windows laptop enabling secure wireless internet connection. I even established wireless printer connection with our HP printer. Within 24-48 hours, the iPad and iPhone could not “see” and attach themselves to the internet network but the Windows laptop remain connected. The N900 router was reset and all Apple products could again “see” and connect to the network for 24-48 hours when once again, each device would again lose connection with the router necessitating the N900 to be reset. I even reset the router to default settings (completely erasing memory) and reentered in all new network information, but to no avail, all Apple devices always lost connection and could not “see” the network within 24-48 hours of router reset I phoned WD tech support three (3) times, each time I was walked thru software updates and the same reset procedures, each time the N900 router worked for 24-48 hours then the Apple devices would lose connectivity and the router would need to be reset again. During this entire time, the N900 router remained connected to the Windows machine, so it seem that the WD N900 router does indeed work with Windows 7 but does not work with Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. Best Buy was gracious enough to exchange the WD N900 router for an Apple router 32 days after I bought the unit, but only after speaking to a manager and explaining that we spend a lot of money at Best Buy, as evident by our rewards account, and we were very unhappy because we were told that the N900 would work with our Apple computers. I do not recommend the WD N900 router for use with any Apple products.

2nd Fail
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I previously purchased a Netgear N900 V2 router sometime ago and the firmware became corrupted and could not be fixed. Despite that I liked Netgear Genie and the router. Purchased a replacement at Best Buy September 30th. The router quit working for internet access for the hard wired computer November 7th. Too late to return it to Best Buy and still waiting a response from NetGear.

so many good features but one glaring omission
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have yet to be able to find the dns server on this router. I have several computers on my home network and an essential part of my router is the internal DNS. I have had to make host entries for all of my static devices and my dynamic devices...oh well... This seems like a horribly glaring issue for a router that is in so many other ways great. This one factor, for my purposes, makes the value and the performance unacceptable. Others may not have a network setup that relies on internal DNS but it is essential in my case.

Poor customer support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This product was a complete waste of money at this point in time. I purchased this product for ease of installation and the touted improvements I would see in my broadband speeds. I have spent over 2 hours trying to find someone at Netgear who can speak english well enough to help me get this to work. I purchased a wireless product and was told i would have to connect this with a wire to configure it. I explained it wasnt practical since the computer and the router and modem are in different rooms. I called NetGear in california to ask for assistance and was transferred back to southeast asia where they have outsourced their customer support to, only to meet the same language problems. Dont waste your money on this product, you will find a distinct lack of customer support by NetGear.

Constantly drops the wifi signal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided i need to upgrade my old router because i really wanted to start streaming HD content so my old 30dlls single band router wasn't cutting it anymore. Bought this and it worked fine at first, after a few days it kept dropping the signal so i had to turn it on and off again. After a while it came to a point where i had to turn it off and on at least 5 times during the day. Called Netgear support and they were no help. I fail to see how a router at this price and with these specs is being out performed by my old 30 dlls router. Returning this to the store as soon as i can and trying a linksys. After doing some research online this seems to be a very common problem for this model.

Great router when it works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used Netgear routers for years without any problems. I upgraded to the WNDR4500 because it supports IPV6. The range and features are excellent on the router, but 2 of them failed in less than a month. They were both fine until I powered them down for whatever reason, meaning disconnecting the power to move them or pushing the power button on the back. After that, they fail to get an internet connection. Contacted Netgear support and went through all the steps they gave me, but still no connection. The tech then told me the unit had failed and send it back for replacement. I got the new one and set it up with no problem, worked great for 29 days. (The first one lasted 28 days). I had to power it down for a re-boot because of a Comcast upgrade and again it failed to get an internet connection. Went through the whole thing with Netgear support with the exact results. I went a step further and cloned the mac address from my modem, but still no joy. I even took it to a neighbors house with a different modem and it wouldn't connect there. Netgear may have just sent out a bad batch and I was unlucky enough to get two in a row, but I installed my older Netgear 37AV router and it works fine.

piece of garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it and it came with corrupted firmware. Spent 5 hours trying to fix it using the online "help" services and they just kept giving me links to long complicated ways to try and fix it. I tried doing what the links said with no success. Spent 120 dollars for a piece of garbage. Very disappointed.

Lots of features but not reliable
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 1 year old Netgear WNR3500 died so I decided to upgrade to a Dual Band N router. I bought the 4500 becasue of it's supposed AFP - Applie Time Machine and AirPrint features. In the few days I had it, I couldn't get the AirPrint to work and most of the forum research I found said the same. I never got around to testing TimeMachine. I considered that a bonus feature anyway. I have to take this back because I experienced the issue that other reviewers did - It's not reliable! Numerous drops from wireless and wired clients. Dropping DSL connection. I have spent two days troubleshooting and trying to tweak this thing to get it to work. This is running the latest firmware V1.0.1.20. I read those reviews prior but figured they would have it worked out in the firmware by now. It must be a hardware issue. Stay away from this one!

On my third one...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am on my third one and all three have died within a couple of hours. I think they have some major issues with some batches of these because the geek squad guy I spoke with said these are coming back like crazy. I'm assuming the firmware is bad but I don't know. Was hopeful but didn't work out.
