    Never would install

I bought this router ($150) for a 6,000 sf (two story) home because previous Cisco Linksys router would not reach the bedrooms at all and had to be restarted several times a day. After almost an hour with tech support, we presumed there was something wrong with the router and I was told to return it. The green light would only blink and not stay and would never install. Problem ended up being that the N900 drew too much amperage for my house and the green light would not stay on at any outlet in my house as it did at Best Buy when I returned it. Traded in for a smaller router ($75) and it installed just fine. My son only gets one bar on his iphone in his bedroom so I'm also buying a wifi extender. It may be unfair to rate the N900 so low but it would not even install in the new home office with nothing on and brand new wiring.

died in less than a week

Worked great during the 6 days I owned it but it died while I was working from home. No brownouts, power outages or thunderstorms during the time I had it. It was plugged in the same surge-protected power strip as my laptop and modem and they're both fine. Think I'll try another brand.

Easy to set up but I feel the range lacks a bit for its size.

First two weeks runs good and after two week it started to drop signals constantly. Reboot the route and worked for 5 minutes and no signals again. Reboot the route again and again and keeping drop the signals. Called the customer support and waited for 45 minutes, finally had somebody answered the phone and put me on hold again and waited for another 30 minutes. I run out of patient and gave up. Called again and waited another 30 minutes and finally somebody came to the phone and hard to understand . Returned it. Go back to my 5 years old D-link 655.

What a drag. I do this for a living. I dont want to jump through hoops when i get home. I had to just about stand on my head to get it to do what i wanted. I expect better from Netgear. See my other review for a better option (youll be suprised).

    Defective out of the box

Upon installation or this router, it would not recognize our IP. I contacted Netgear via their 800 number for support, and was told to call back 15 to 20 minutes later. When I called the second time, I was told that they did not support this product and to contact my place of purchase. I contacted the 800 Geek squad and they were very helpfull, although it was determined that the router was defective. We returned it to Best Buy and replaced it with a Cisco, the installation went as designed, within a few minutes it was up and running.

    Could not get to work

I spent over an hour on the phone with Netgear support and it did not work. They wanted to keep trying things but I gave up. If it is so hard to set up at first, what happens if there is an issue. They only give 90 days free support. Plus, I had too hard a time understanding the agent. I know many companies off shore their call centers, but they have to ensure the people they put on the phone can be understandable. It was really hard to have a conversation when we both had to keep saying "I did not understand that, can you repeat it". Bottomline, I returned it to the store and I will continue to use my 7 year old router.

    Worst Ever

I bought this product thinking that from the back of the box that it would work fine and was an easy set up. Well I got home with it and lets say it is the opposite of all of that. Sure connecting a few wires not hard the part I find just ludicrous about it is when I went to connect to the device THE PASSWORD ON IT WOULD NOT EVEN WORK WITH IT. Now I sat there for 20 mins thinking oh this must be something on my end. It was not the password did not match the system what so ever. I will be returning this awful router tomorrow and hope to pick up something that will at lest work with its own given default password.

Not compatible with most wireless products

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased this router to replace an older model of Netgear. I've never had issues with Netgear before, so I chose another Netgear to upgrade to. That was a mistake. The router did not automatically configure. I had to call tech support to get it to work. While tech support was very helpful and helped with computer set up, no other wireless devices would configure, including my cell phones, kindle, and Wii. I had to return it. I actually exchanged it for another brand, which worked perfectly and cost $30 less. This would be a good router, but it's just not automatically configurable to most devices at this point.

    Avoid

I am technical savvy user and returned this product after realizing that you really don't need this and went with Zoom. Setup was easy but Wifi was a pain.. it had hard time connecting with iphone. The 5GH band was not much of use unless you have 10-15 other wireless devices in your home. I have 2-3 iphones, 3 laptops and 2 desktops.. I still didn't find 5 GH useful. The money they are charging for this product is nuts and I went with "zoom" and getting much better speed and it was a gateway.

    Not so great

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Issues with devices accessing the 5GHz, some could connect some couldn't. It would not auto change channel to best signal. After 4 months it started being sporadic; dropping connections, locking me out, forcing hard resets. When spending close to $200 (4months ago) I felt that I had purchased quality hardware. Now, after 4 months, I feel like a guinea pig. I have purchased the Apple - Airport Extreme for a replacement and am happy again.

WAN Connection out after 4 days

Bought this guy on Sunday Sep 30, and it quit on Thursday Oct 4. Upgraded to most recent FW, tried every workaround suggested by Netgear and on the forums - nada. I'm certain a fully functional N900 would be worthy of a much longer and detailed review of what works but, alas, I didn't have the thing long enough to even form an opinion. Back to Linksys. This is the first failure of a Netgear router I've owned.

    Not Wall Mountable

I purchased this router for use in a small church office setting with great expectations. However, upon opening the box, I discovered the unit was not wall mountable. Unlike the N750, the base is permanently attached and can't be removed, and there are no wall mount holes in the back. I returned the product unused. My rating of this product is solely based on the fact that it is not wall mountable.

    not compatible with my ISP

I tried for days to get this system to work. Then I called NetGear support and was directed to Iyogi. Iyogi promised they could get the system to work- but they could not- beware of their high priced promises. The router simply was not compatible with my PC and ISP. My ISP replaced by modem and this router with an all in one router / modem and things are working great now.

would not work, never got a "2.4 Ghz" light, tried the customer support spoke with someone that was very hard to understand and after 45 min and downloading two files, one from "shadowgames" website, I gave up and returned it to the store. Don't know if it was just defective or you need to do a lot of extra work to get it to work

I was told at the store that this would work, however when I got it home an tried to hook it up, it messed up all my network processes. It may work just fine for some people, but it messed up my system, so I cannot use it. for me, it was a total waste of money.

Poor range and worse tech support

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Range is terrible and apparently when Netgear's update utility for their firmware breaks your devices that is your issue. I will likely never buy another Netgear device despite having been an avid fan of theirs for over a decade. There are some other great devices out there that I would definitely purchase above this one.

Pain to get hooked up. Will not connect to my Xbox One no matter how many options I change. Pain to get to the "Genie Screen". The customer service is a joke, they are just reading what's on the computer. Maybe I'll switch to a Linksys instead.
