I have owned Netgear range extenders in the past and they have, at best, been slow and unreliable. This one, when paired with my Netgear 1900 AC router, works great and still gets 80 MBps speeds when my main router gets 100-110 MBps wireless speeds. No problems yet, would definitely recommend.

    Product works, just don't upgrade!

Purchased this to help extend the WiFi through my house. Setup was easy enough. But I did not get the Meshed connection as advertised. I researched a bit and found out how to do it. While doing this through the mywifiext.com link, I was notified I needed an upgrade to the firmware. So I did. Once I did, I then went to change the setting the Mesh my router names to just the 2 I normally have. That is when my problems began. The was no internet connection when connected to the EXT through my WiFi. I did have it when I was connect tot the EXT LAN connection. Then shortly after I wasn't even able to connect to the WiFi at all unless I was by the main router to pickup. Then it started to affect my 2.4 GHz service. So I reset the EXT and started over. Except this time once I used the WPS function as before. I could now connect to the EXT again, but no internet. No the LAN wasn't working either. And over a short period of time my 2.4GHz off my main router was not able to connect to the internet either. So I thought it was defective, disconnected it for the night and exchanged the next day. When I got home with the new one, it worked, I did setup connecting through the mywifiext.com link this time. But there was no Mesh option available. I had to upgrade the firmware on this device as well. So I did. Now the Mesh check boxes were there, but i started to have the same no internet issues I had with the first EXT. So I knew it was the upgrade causing this. I downgraded the firmware and it works! Tried to contact Netgear's support, talk about frustrating. There was no number, no chat just the community page to search through. of coarse there wasn't any thing related on this. I found on other review pages that this upgrade is an issue and you will to downgrade as i did. Why would they keep the upgrade there if it does not work? Poorly thought out and no support!

Great choice for old houses w/ limited receptacles

Easy to set up! Works great, so far. Bought this to extend wifi signal in an 1860s Victorian house. The house is huge, with plaster and lath walls. Second floor rooms have one or two receptacles per room, and some of those are in the floor or in the baseboard. For this reason, I wanted a range extender that will work with power strips. I didn't want a mesh system because those all presume one has modern wiring and each piece has to be plugged directly into a receptable. My router is a Netgear Nighthawk R6400 V1 AC1750, approximately 6 months old. It's located on the 2nd floor in a room at the very front of the house. It actually does blast a signal to the back of the house, 2nd floor, but the signal in the kitchen (very back, 1st floor) was too weak and resulted in slow or dropped wifi. I followed directions, used an ethernet cable for setup, and connected the Ex7000 to the R6400 router using the WPS button on each, both devices in the same room. Ex7000 connected to both bands, instituted the same security and passwords, and everything went without a hitch. I then relocated the Ex7000 toward the back of the house, where it's giving me full signal strength to the kitchen and back bedroom, and outside the house. EX7000 paired with the R6400 is an excellent combo, provides powerful signals on both bands, and can work with powerstrips, haha. Mesh systems are nice for those people who live in modern houses, but this combo provided a simple solution in a 149 year old house with 1940s wiring. I left the signal strength / coverage setting on the EX7000 set to maximum. In spite of that, it runs much cooler than the R6400 router does. I seem to have enough bandwidth without the Fastlane enabled, so I did not enable Fastlane mode on the EX7000. I like having flexibility to connect devices to either band.

I have tried several wall mount/direct plug in wifi extenders with no success. Decided to spend the money and give this one a try after reading many positive reviews. This wifi extender works perfectly! Where I had 1 or less bars of signal, I now have full signal throughout the entire floor. Super easy to setup through your smartphone. Highly recommend ... you will not be disappointed ...

I've been struggling with what was said to be a good extender, wrong. The EX7000 set up just like the instructions suggested( I didn't even remove them from the plastic wrapper). In no time I had fast reliable WI-FI (about 3 minutes). We have an old house that is not WI-FI friendly until now. The detached cottage usually needing it's own router picks this unit up no problem.

It was easy to setup and connect devices to. This unit will just pick up your existing wifi and extend it. It just adds the suffix of -EXT to your existing wireless SSID. It uses the same passwords (if enabled). Practically plug and go. Minimal setup. Easy to set up NAS device through USB and use as a file server.

This extender absolutely solved my coverage issues. My ISP is providing me with a 200 mbs plan. I have three floors, with my modem/router in the middle floor. In the past, my router's 5G signal was so week in the basement that it could not get utilized. I have two of these set up, one on the top floor, and the second one in the basement. Now I have 5G coverage all through my house! As an example, the best speed I could get in the basement in the past was with a 2G signal, at around 5 mbs. After installing these extenders, I now have constantly over 100 mbs. Also, these do not have to get directly connected to a computer for the initial setup. All that is required is to choose the wireless connection that is outlined in the easy to read instructions. After the initial setup, they can then get placed where a better signal is required. I cannot think of a better extender to use!

I had ATT uverse install a modem/router that was supposed to give me 100 mb up/down. However, the wireless signal produced by the ATT modem/router was horrible. I would lose signal all the time regardless if I was using 2.4 or 5 band. I decided to buy the extender to see if it would help. At first I was disappointed, because no matter where I put it in the house, the source signal from ATT was just to weak. However, I put the EX7000 in AP mode, plugged it directly into the ATT modem/router, disabled the wireless signals from the ATT modem/router, then broadcasted the EX7000 2.4 and 5 band across the house. Immediately, I started getting 100 up/down. The EX7000 is even upstairs in the bonus room and it works everywhere in the house. Even outside. This thing has great range. If you are having issues using it as an extender, switch to AP mode, and plug directly into the your modem/router. Great device, very pleased with my purchase.

It works better as Local Point than wifi extender. If you are looking for an extender this is the one. This device converts single band to dual band and increase signal power.

It's a simple setup for sure, or so I thought. Tweeking it to work consistently with Centurylink internet service is another issue altogether. We began having connection drops shortly after this purchase. I spent two weeks blaming Centurylink, until we discovered there were tweeks that needed to be make with this item. After that, running pretty good. A little disappointed in the price after having so many issues with it, but it works. It extends just as advertised.

I use this Nighthawk wifi range extender to send a wifi signal from my home to my office building, which are 300 ft apart. I get a very strong wifi signal in my office. I've used less powerful extenders and they were constantly loosing the signal from my house. The Nighthawk works beautifully. I do have a clear line of sight between the two buildings. Somebody explained to me that you can't even have a few trees to block the signal. The signal can't penetrate water and trees are mostly made up of water.

This range extender is worth its weight in gold if you have real troubles with your internet connections. One half of our house couldn’t get internet and this beauty has solved our problems. Be sure to try different locations for the unit for best possible reception.

ex7000/ex7000 AP/EXT gives us some DFS channels

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Good for giving some DFS channels for people with existing modem/router or router as an ACCESS POINT. I bought R7000P/EX7000 as AP-EXTENDER setup. Even though R7000P is certified Netgear is not releasing DFS support for the R7000P. So being stuck with the R7000P I decided to get another EX7000 refurb with 2yr support for $50 to verify that DFS would work on both modes (AP/EXT): It does! So now I have enough DFS channels to use until existing routers with DFS support have dropped in price. I may try alternative firmware on my R7000P. I am not using USB at this time, so no comment there. Maybe netgear will actually release firmware for R7000P DFS, but I didn't want to wait forever. I am happy with EX7000/EX7000 till 2024. Roger
