I always had bad wifi upstairs, this exstender did what it was supposed to. Went from 1 to three bars to a solid full set 100 percent of the time. Plus i can plug other ethernet devices into it 5 total. Easy to get started. Even assigned it its own name a password so its different than the router its hooked upto.

What a difference! We have a large home with stone walls and many different rooms/walls. This extender made an extreme difference. I can pick up signal from even in the back yard. Best purchase if your home needs wifi help

Haven't had a problem with it yet. Easy set up and has been humming along ever since. We don't push it to the extreme, but with a few mobile devices and streaming tv at the same time has never been a problem.

I was not getting wifi connection upstairs because the verizon fios router is horrible, so I got this wifi extender and now I have faster internet. Thank you Netgear, and no thanks to verizon fios.

    Solved my WiFi Speed Issues

My home office is off in a corner of my house. The built in WiFi on me desktop was struggling to get me 50mbps (I have a gig service). I purchased a cheaper model from a different manufacturer and while that helped, I knew I could do better. I learned that the model I had only had an 80mhz channel instead of 160mhz. I was still able to get 400mbps out of that. I upgraded to this one, enabled the "fast lane" and connected my desktop via ethernet. Getting 850mbps now and i love it!

Started out fine but then the updates started.....

I bought this wifi extended in October 2017 after I realized that being in a new bigger home caused problems with getting wifi all over the house. Our home is over 4000 sq ft. which is mostly head space (ceiling) not living space. Anyway I saw this and thought great. It worked at first. It was a pain to set up. Wifi signal so strong I could sit outside and work. You see I have been working from home for one company or another for the last 8 years. Wifi and internet are very important. Pay check important. Fast forward to October/November 2018. An email was sent out saying there was a new firmware update. Here is where things go south. In order to do the update your extender and wifi must be seamlessly connected and then the "genie" website will appear from Netgear. It is not a real web page that you can go to log in. No I guess for security reasons you can only see it if everything is working great. Problem is the extender started dropping the wifi signal and turning off on its own. So I could not get to the web page at first to do what I thought was the problem, the update. I also thought the problem was ATT and had them come out and give us a new modem. After that I paired the extender and modem up again and it seemed to be working. When I did that the firmware updated. And here is where there is false advertisement. With the new firmware the extender is no longer dual band with 2.4GHz and 5GHz but now JUST 5Ghz. I did not know how important the 2.4GHz was until my wifi and internet started crashing and messing up again. I can not downgrade the firmware because once again the extender and my modem are out of synch and I can't get the "Genie" webpage to open or appear. The final straw is that it keeps interfering with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. My SMART TVs will say I have no internet connection when I know I do. Also My SMART TVs would not update due to the wifi being messed up. When I just completely unplugged this extender everything is working again. Even my phone is running better and the web pages are popping up better and faster. Since I still have dead spots in my home I have just ordered the Linksys Velop TriBand Mesh WiFi System 3 Pack Black. Yes I know it is pricy but it is TriBand which means it has 2GHz and two 5GHz. Like I said the wifi and internet is my bread and butter and I have to have it to work for my pay check. I would not recommend this to anything especially since the last firmware update has made it One Band extender (5GHz). False Advertisement all the way.

    Bizarre Firmware & Config Process

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I would avoid this product; it seems so intentionally oversimplified that it becomes quite bizarre to use. I guess they took a shot at a new way of handling its initial configuration via Wi-Fi-only, but it has a lot of predictable connectivity issues that they have not resolved (like the auto-channel setting picking 2.4Ghz frequencies not compatible with an iPhone). After probably an hour or longer than what I would have typically thought needed to configure the device I realized it’s also still missing key features that it should have. There is no "advanced tab" like the in past to reveal more settings (and it was using the current firmware version out-of-the-box). My biggest concerns were a simple bug with the unit saying it had no internet access but actually did. The issue is largely cosmetic but speaks volumes to the update and support cycles. It’s a bug I read reported online back in 2017 and it still remains. I consider firmware updates and support my number one concern with access points and so returned the device (I was going to buy two to be used in AP mode). The unit name drops “access control” but is only referring to MAC filtering and does not allow admin access restriction to be blocked via Wi-Fi interfaces (a deal breaker in the year 2000, let alone 2019). I’m at a loss to explain what Netgear was thinking.

I brought this extender for my basement because I wasn't getting enough signal down there. It has by far been the best range extender compare to others. Literally gives me full bar wifi. Easy set up. Nice to have a 2g and 5g connection also.

Didn't return because of the item but didn't work for what we needed. We live in an rv park and needed something to hopefully pick up the wifi provided. But I believe we were to far away. Net gear is a good product all in all

My son has never been able to get WiFi upstairs. We have tried basic WiFi extenders, even purchased a new mega router/modem combo to extend WiFi up there. Nothing worked, until we bought this. Now he can use his electronics with WiFi upstairs with no problem.
