It only extended the range and in some areas of the house weakened the signal. For a little more money I would go with the newer tri-technology.

loses 5G constantly. Aggravating

I connected to my dd-wrt router (ASUS RT-N66U 'Dark Knight' Router). Both devices with latest firmware. 5G_EXT worked great... that is... for a couple hours after each reboot. Then it died. 2G_EXT mode works great, but it's the dual mode I really wanted. And can't get. I'm going to see if Netgear will honor their one year warranty, as this has to be a hardware issue.

Exactly what I needed

This Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 was easy to set up and provides a reliable connection. Indeed, when I connect to this extender from my bedroom, my download speeds are comparable to when I'm connected to my router while in the same room as the router. I am very pleased!
